How does it feel to have a Three Defense Spirit Power User wandering around campus as one of your own students, especially when you’re the homeroom teacher?
Yu Jing’s face darkened as she asked for the details. After learning the situation, she immediately brought Shen Ning and headed into the office building to see Principal Lü. Thank heavens, he happened to be in his office at that moment, not out having dinner or anything.
Upon hearing that Xu Chuyao had gone out early this morning with her girlfriend and returned with an insider from the Town’s Supreme Learning Association, Principal Lü nodded slightly. He quickly arranged for the troublesome woman to be locked up.
He’d dealt with a few minor gangs before, so this was not entirely new to him.
“But Xu Chuyao is a First Rank Spirit Power User,” Principal Lü glanced at Shen Ning helplessly and said, “No matter what, she has to be held accountable.”
They contacted the Department Chief Long Hao, who was somewhat reluctant but agreed that some form of further action needed to be taken. However, as for the school, it wasn’t a prison or some secret police organization. They weren’t responsible for detaining or investigating people.
“Standing on the training ground,” Shen Ning sat obediently on the chair in the office and answered honestly, “I haven’t had class in a long time and want to study.”
As soon as she said that, the teachers and officials in the office exchanged amused smiles.
They all knew that Chuyao had never taken classes seriously before. Ever since becoming a Three Defense Spirit Power User, she rarely went to the classroom at all, saying that the lessons for third-year students were useless to her because her level was too high.
Kids like these, what can you do but worry about their studies?
“Teacher Yu, go and find her at the training ground and bring her back,” Principal Lü instructed.
Yu Jing left the office building and headed to the training ground, taking out her phone to call the class monitor.
“Beep, the number you have dialed is no longer in service…”
She realized calmly that the class monitor was not at school but had gone shopping with other classmates, and unfortunately, had been killed by the Xiao Wang gang.
Yu Jing sighed silently, her mind involuntarily thinking about those ruthless members of the Xiao Wang gang who caused several deaths among classmates. Yet, only a few weeks later, the biggest female student in their class had hunted them down and wiped them out. If those who had passed away knew this, perhaps they would have felt a strange sense of relief.
This was the clear dividing line in the Academy system. After turning eighteen, classmates who once got along suddenly began to distance themselves. This gap in ability made some students feel more alienated than even strangers.
Shaking off the chaotic thoughts, Cheng Wei calmed herself and called another student.
“Teacher Yu.”
“Yes, it’s me. Are you at PE class? Is Xu Chuyao there?”
“Yes, she’s here.”
The boy’s voice on the phone sounded a little impatient.
“What’s she doing? Sparring?”
A duel between a Three Defense and a First Rank Spirit Power User? That’s bullying fellow classmates.
“Yes, she’s practicing, but alone. We’re all watching… Teacher Yu, you wouldn’t believe it, she’s practicing with a power like Thunder Girl’s!”
Yu Jing frowned. “That’s not how you use Thunder Girl’s technique. If Teacher Li Xueli heard that, she’d make you rewrite your notes.”
Kids these days, culture classes are truly…
“Teacher Yu, I’m not—”
Before the boy could finish, Yu Jing had already hung up because the training ground wasn’t far away.
For some reason, there were a lot of people at the training ground today. As she was on her way there, many students rushed over from all directions—mostly boys—hoping to watch from outside.
It wasn’t exactly a huge crowd, but the entrance to the training ground was small. As the number of people grew, it got pretty crowded.
Yu Jing pulled a student away from the entrance. “What are you all watching?”
“Thunder Girl!” The senior boy shouted excitedly, face flushed, “Watching Thunder Girl!”
Thunder Girl? Xu Chuyao?
Yu Jing’s heart jumped. She hurriedly pulled the student ahead and pushed her way into the training ground.
“Xu Chuyao, it’s not summer yet, don’t wear such thin clothes…”
A dazzling blue-white light shimmered around her, naturally limiting any worries her homeroom teacher had about the young woman’s physical and mental health.
Sizzle! Sizzle!
“Teacher Yu, you’re here!” The boy who called earlier came over. “I wanted to tell you, Thunder Girl’s technique isn’t just a metaphor.”
Half joking, Yu Jing put away her phone and called Principal Lü.
“Xu Chuyao’s here, practicing with an overwhelming aura in the training ground.”
At first, Xu Chuyao was about to respond calmly, ready with some teasing words like a fisherman who’s caught a big fish: “Hey, how do you know I’m using a special effect today?” But she realized she didn’t need to say anything.
All she had to do was raise her long, graceful white leg and step firmly on the training dummy.
Her husky voice immediately attracted everyone’s attention.
And then it all got out of control. Every student in PE class came out to watch, even the PE teachers didn’t stop them. They pulled out their phones to call friends, and in no time the entire area was packed.
Watching the Thunder Girl’s hands spark and stomp lightning on the training ground as if dancing, countless boys couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like if she were a Third Rank Spirit Power User.
“This is just too awesome,” one student couldn’t help but say.
Another nearby classmate expressed the same feeling even more crudely: “Damn, so cool.”
Not very refined.
After about ten minutes, Yu Jing and the PE teachers managed to disperse the crowd and took Xu Chuyao away.
On the way back to the office building, the Thunder Girl seemed a bit reluctant.
“Don’t worry about catching that person right now. They can’t run anyway. Let me practice a little more.”
She corrected herself. “I mean practice a little more. Just got promoted to Three Defense today and need lots of practice to improve my elemental control.”
Xu Chuyao was confident enough.
Yu Jing sighed and said, “If you really want to, ask Principal Lü to set up an evaluation ceremony for you in a few days. Like last time with Shen Ning, when the TV station and reporters from Center City came. Dozens of cameras focused on you—you can show off as much as you want.”
Xu Chuyao’s eyes brightened, but then she hesitated. “No, I can’t. After the last big scene, the whole place was shaken up. I’m not mentally ready for another one so soon.”
As always, the TV station and reporters would still want to interview her. Chuyao’s interviews were quite well received. Though she wasn’t as smooth as others, it was still the same story: if I don’t say it, you’ll never know how amazing I really am.
Such a big deal must be shared with many people.
Arriving at the Principal’s office, Principal Lü was the first to glance over, a look of subtle helplessness on his face.
“You… every time, you manage to give me a surprise.”
Sometimes, he really wondered what kind of shady stuff his students were involved in.
And it was always with a girlfriend by their side.
Shen Ning sat in the chair, eating a snow biscuit, quietly watching Xu Chuyao before continuing to eat.
“Let it go. With Xu Chuyao’s current strength, no one in the school can hurt her,” Yu Jing said, “Teachers won’t cause her any trouble either, because she truly is an exceptional student.”
A tense atmosphere seemed to issue a sharp warning: “Is it possible Xu Chuyao was watching carefully to see if there was anyone else nearby? Or if there was the scent of another girl’s perfume on her?”
Hearing this, Shen Ning’s expression changed subtly. Besides the scent on the snow biscuit, the air carried a faint but distinct smell of burnt skin.
Hmmmm.
Principal Lü glanced coldly a few times before turning to business. He said Wen Fang was already locked up. What were the plans after that?
Xu Chuyao said she would contact Department Chief Long.
Long Hao was also surprised when he received the news. He had just given permission that morning, and now the insider was already caught and brought back.
“How did you confirm her identity as the insider?”
“Wasn’t there supposed to be a thorough investigation? The information submitted was just a rough guess, not proof.”
Xu Chuyao shrugged. “I told her straight out, ‘I know you’re the insider. Now you have to come in for questioning.’ She didn’t back down and started fighting on the spot.”
Then she played a recording from her phone.
Long Hao was speechless at her rough methods.
Theoretically, it wasn’t very proper, but it was certainly straightforward, simple, and effective.
After listening to Wen Fang’s defenses, Long Hao seemed somewhat reassured.
“The person Xu mentioned, I’ll check with the head of West Valley Academy. We should be able to identify her.”
Xu Chuyao nodded indifferently, not interested in asking about the identity of the female student in question. The other party was stronger than Wen Fang, with a higher rank. They might even be displeased to learn about their own history.
Long Hao continued, “Organize a team for the investigation in a few days. I’ll push for you to be one of the lead interrogators for Wen Fang.”
“Great,” Xu Chuyao narrowed her eyes, “This time it’s my turn.”
Last time during Professor Swina’s interrogation, Xu Chuyao wasn’t qualified to assist.
As for the later trip to Ying Ji Si’s site, that was not an interrogation, but a hearing.
Long Hao smiled under his breath and teased her: “I gave a bunch of reasons, but do you know the main one?”
“I know. I wasn’t First Rank back then,” Xu Chuyao raised her small hand, “Now I’m Third Rank.”
Knowing the source material, Xu Chuyao understood that in this world, official power was the only standard. Once your rank was high enough, anything was possible.
A helpless smile like Principal Lü’s appeared on Long Hao’s face. “With that clear of a title, what are you worried about? When you told me you’d reached Second Rank back from Freiden, I knew the jump to Third Defense Spirit Power User was only a matter of time. Though this was much faster than expected.”
Finally, he promised that next time he’d bring rewards or gifts to celebrate the achievement, then ended the call.
Xu Chuyao opened the door to the office.
“All said?” Principal Lü asked.
“All said.”
“Then tell me, Xu Chuyao, about your Three Defense thing—any ideas? Like last time, you want to have an evaluation ceremony or something?”
“Let’s wait a couple of days. I have too much to deal with today,” Xu Chuyao stretched and said she wanted to rest first.
The excitement on her body gradually faded, replaced by tiredness and heaviness.
“Alright, then you should rest.”
Seeing her about to leave, Shen Ning also stood up from the chair, brushing off the crumbs from the snow biscuit.
She said goodbye to the Principal and Yu Jing. The two young women left the office building together. It was already past seven in the evening. The sun had set, and the moon, still not fully bright, cast a gentle glow over the Academy.
“Today, somehow, we managed to get a lot done,” Xu Chuyao stretched a stomach bigger than usual, “I’m actually tired. For the first time, I really felt the pain of pushing myself. How about you? What did you do?”
Shen Ning said nothing, just quietly reached out to touch her girlfriend’s sleeve.
“Your sleeve’s singed.”
It was a very small burn, but the smell of charred skin was unmistakable.
“Ah, that’s true. I must’ve sparked something on the training ground. Didn’t pay attention during practice and accidentally touched it. Haha, it’d be better if it were summer then I could just wear shorts and not have this problem.”
She laughed while rolling up the long skirt of her dress, cutting it in half and turning it into a short skirt.
Yu Jing said, “Right, the long skirt’s blocking your skill range. The world should only have sleeveless, spaghetti-strap tops and slim pants!”
The tense atmosphere group echoed: “…Calm down.”
