Lying on the bed, the blanket already covering her, Su Yao still couldn’t fall asleep.
After lying there for a while, she picked up her phone, which was only half charged.
She turned on the data and started browsing online.
She watched some videos, or did other random things. Originally, after seeing the time in the upper right corner, she was already starting to yawn, but just then, a message suddenly popped up. She thought it was from Mu Nanqiu, but unexpectedly, it was from Luo Yu.
“What are you doing up this late at night, messaging me?”
Logically, Luo Yu wouldn’t reach out to her for no reason, especially not so late at night. The only explanation was that something about Su Yao had come up, so Luo Yu was purposely messaging her.
Looking at the “Are you there?” above, Su Yao pouted, then broke into a smile.
“Not here, this is Yao Su. If you have anything to say, tell me and I’ll pass it on.”
“Sweating soybean.jpg”
“Alright, can’t even joke anymore? Hurry up and say what’s going on.”
“See for yourself, Miss Mantou~”
After Luo Yu sent the text, a mischievous emoji followed. Su Yao frowned, feeling that something was off with Luo Yu, but couldn’t quite put her finger on it, so she decided to just see what the picture was.
After clicking it open and waiting for it to load, the text on the picture became much clearer. Just seeing the title made Su Yao draw in a sharp breath. There wasn’t much content, but the words between the lines screamed two words: coming out!
Seeing the all-too-familiar figure in the picture, Su Yao shot straight up from her lying position.
How could this happen?
Very quickly, she thought of the possibility that someone at the library today had taken photos, posted this thread, and somehow it had gone viral, spreading rapidly.
Luckily, it only mentioned “Miss Mantou” and didn’t reveal exactly who she was or which class she belonged to. That was the only bit of good news.
Su Yao covered her mouth with her little hand, still unable to believe so many people might know. Although quite a few people already knew she and Mu Nanqiu were close, that was just being close, maybe just good friends. Nothing like this had ever appeared before.
Her heart was racing, her body felt a kind of stifling heat. Even after lowering the air conditioner temperature, it didn’t help. Su Yao got up and left the bed, wearing only a camisole nightdress as she sat on the sofa in the living room.
Compared to her room, it was much colder out here.
Right now, cold was exactly what Su Yao needed. The drop in physical temperature helped calm her down.
After catching her breath, she sent a voice message to Luo Yu.
“When did this… happen?”
“I just saw it, so I came to notify Miss Mantou~”
Luo Yu’s way of addressing her had switched from her name to “Miss Mantou.” Su Yao frowned tightly. It was too strange, but her mind was too scattered to dwell on it. She opened her contacts, looked at the number marked “Mu,” and after hesitating for a while, she decided to call.
The phone rang, but wasn’t picked up immediately. Every passing second felt like torment to Su Yao. She wondered if Mu Nanqiu was already asleep? Or maybe she was showering, or doing something else?
Her thoughts spiraled out of control, making her more and more agitated.
When the call finally connected, Su Yao shouted out.
“Nanqu!”
Her tone carried a hint of anger, and what replied was Mu Nanqiu’s lazy, soft, and charming voice.
“Yeah?”
“It’s just… I just saw a… a message saying you and Miss Mantou came out of the closet. Maybe… might have come out. I mean, isn’t Miss Mantou me? So…”
“So Yao Yao thinks now that people know, we won’t work out?”
“Nanqu, I told you before, as long as you don’t give up.”
“Mm, I, I know.”
Su Yao kicked off her slippers, curled up in the corner of the sofa, knees to her chest, hugging her Big White Rabbit, one arm around her legs, the other holding her phone to her ear, head bowed, a hint of guilt in her moist, dark eyes.
She was scared, especially when Mu Nanqiu wasn’t by her side.
“Nanqu, were you asleep?”
“Just woke up.”
“Did I wake you?”
“I’ll smack your palm tomorrow. If I forget, you remind me.”
“How could you…”
Su Yao knew Mu Nanqiu would definitely pretend to forget tomorrow, waiting for her to bring it up. And just thinking of reminding Nanqiu to smack her own palm felt strange. But if it was just a childish punishment for waking her up in the middle of the night, Su Yao could accept it. After all, it wasn’t anything embarrassing.
She could accept it!
“Alright, but… are you sure it’s okay? Won’t this affect your life?”
“Don’t worry, someone’s already handling it.”
On the other end of the line, Mu Nanqiu was lying on the bed in her pajamas, yawning. She was really sleepy, woken up by the ringing phone. Even if she hadn’t answered, she knew who it was—at this hour, it could only be Su Yao.
Luckily, she didn’t have a bad temper after being woken up, or Su Yao would have been in for it tomorrow. Still, a little light punishment was part of the fun in a relationship.
After coaxing Su Yao a bit, she finally agreed to go to sleep. Mu Nanqiu checked for any more messages, then lay down with peace of mind.
Before drifting off, she didn’t forget to say, “Yao Yao, just you wait for me tomorrow!”
At the same time, Su Yao was back in bed. She’d gotten chilled outside, and she was still in her special time of the month. If she caught a cold again, she’d be as miserable as that first day.
Snuggling into the warm blanket, Su Yao was just about to fall asleep.
Suddenly, she thought of something, and burst out with a soft, sticky “Damn!”
Su Yao tried to get up from bed, but had only risen a few centimeters before lying back down.
She finally realized why Luo Yu called her “Miss Mantou.” Because Luo Yu knew who Miss Mantou was—herself, both the author of those steamy stories about Mu Nanqiu and Hua Mingye, and the notorious procrastinator. Su Yao remembered Luo Yu really liked her story, and had even complained to her when she stopped updating.
Su Yao used one account for surfing the web, and another for her daily life—the two had always been kept separate, hardly ever crossing paths. But now, because of that post, both sides had become intertwined…
This is a bit bad.
