Because the Kingdom Knights had already informed the townspeople that it was thanks to Samimiโs help that they were able to drive back the Steelback Dragon…
Everyone gave credit where it was dueโsaying that without the nunโs aid, none of them wouldโve returned, and the town wouldโve been destroyed.
Thus, Samimi suddenly became a hero of Sweetmelon Town.
Moreover, the fact that a mysterious female knight in shining armor had been following the penitent nun all day only added to her mysterious and noble aura.
Fabiana had been tailing Samimi and Niubao for a full day, witnessing everything Samimi did.
โSheโs only doing good because Iโm watching her.โ
Fabiana still believed Samimi was putting on a showโpretending to be a good person.
Running around healing townsfolk? That had to be a trick to mislead her. Samimi was never like this before.
Heh. I, Fabiana, granddaughter of the Knight King, am not so easily fooled!
โDo you want food or not? I can make an extra portion, but itโs gonna cost you.โ
Back at Sweetmelon Chapel at noon, Samimi asked plainly.
She didnโt have the heart to let someone just sit and stare while she ateโit made her lose her appetite too.
โHah, you think I donโt know what you’re up to?โ Fabiana sneered, refusing the offer. โYouโre probably trying to poison me.โ
โHave you got water in your brain? Then go eat at an inn,โ Samimi snapped, finally losing her temper.
โStruck a nerve? I mustโve hit the mark.โ Fabiana kept provoking, slapping a few silver coins on the table. โFine, Iโll eat here. I have top-tier antidotes in my pouchโyou canโt touch me.โ
Samimi swiftly pocketed the money. For silver, she could put up with the nonsense.
Niubao started the fire and cooked with a mighty sizzle.
Fabiana finally took off her dual-winged knightโs helmet, revealing her exquisitely beautiful face. Her eyes, however, stayed sharp and cold, showing no emotion.
Samimi didnโt care. She leaned back in a creaky rocking chair to nap while waiting for food. Completely unbothered.
โKid, has this woman mistreated you?โ Fabiana took the chance to question Niubao.
โNo, the Sister is very kind to me,โ Niubao replied.
โHas she ever touched you inappropriately?โ Fabiana pressed further.
โWhat does โinappropriatelyโ mean?โ Niubao blinked, confused.
โUhโฆ wellโฆโ Fabiana found herself unable to explain.
โThe Sister is super nice. I was thrown off a slave cart and broke my leg. Hundreds of people passed me on the road, but only she was willing to save me. She gave me food and a place to live,โ Niubao said.
โShe only saved you because youโre cute. She just wanted someone to serve her while she lazes around. Donโt trust her. Run away when you get a chance,โ Fabiana tried to convince her.
โAnd go where?โ Niubao asked. โYou gonna take care of me?โ
Fabiana was left speechless, cheeks flushed red.
Witchcraft! Samimi must have brainwashed the kid!
Sheโs a cleric, after allโmust be using dark spells to charm the whole town!
โAs a knight, all you do is sow discord. Your moral character is truly impressive,โ Samimi quipped with sharp sarcasm.
โYouโ!โ Fabiana was rattled, springing to her feet in fury, but couldnโt find a single word to counter her.
โI may not be a good person, but none of you are saints either,โ Samimi opened her eyes beneath the black cloth.
Even with her eyes covered, Fabiana could feel the sharpness of her gaze through the enchanted blindfold. She was momentarily stunned.
โFoodโs ready,โ Samimi cut off the argument, heading to the table for lunch.
Niubao reluctantly served Fabiana a bowl of rice.
The three of them ate lunch in total silence.
Samimi and Niubao, being quick eaters, finished everything in moments.
Fabiana, dawdling and suspicious, realized too lateโonly scraps of veggies and a few meat crumbs remained for her.
Samimi had at least left her something.
After the meal, Samimi and Niubao went out for a walk, leaving Fabiana behind to sulk and stew in her thoughts.
โYou think pretending to be a blind nun will atone for your sins, huh?โ Fabiana muttered bitterly at Samimiโs retreating back.
โI will find evidence of your crimes!โ
That night, Fabiana still refused to leave the Sweetmelon Chapel, unwilling to stay at an inn. She claimed a spare roomโof course, she had to pay for it.
โGo clean upโyou stink.โ
She finally removed her heavy white armor and relaxed a bit, dropping her guard for the first time.
Fabiana boiled a kettle of water and returned to her room to wipe herself down. That counted as a bath.
But it was all a trap.
Just before, sheโd deliberately walked past Samimi and loudly declared she was going to batheโclassic honey trap bait. She wanted to catch Samimi red-handed.
Everyone remembers, after all, that Samimi has a secret female-loving quirk.
Creak~
The wooden door cracked open.
โHmph! Got you!โ
Fabiana lunged and yanked the door wide openโonly to grab…
โAh?! Knight lady, what are you doing?!โ Niubao shrieked, dropping her plate of fruit.
โEh?โ Fabiana froze, awkwardly clutching the wrong person.
โWhatโs the ruckus?โ Samimi poked her head out from the next room, visibly groggy and confused.
โSister, I was just bringing her some fruit and she jumped out and grabbed me!โ Niubao stammered.
โWhat the hell is your problem?โ Samimi rushed over and pulled Niubao behind her, glaring at Fabiana with full vigilance.
โI…โ Fabiana couldnโt even explain herself.
โFruit isnโt cheap, yโknow. We barely had money to buy any before,โ Samimi scolded. โThese were gifts from the townspeople, and you just wasted them.โ
โIโll pay,โ Fabiana said quickly, trying to fix the situation with her wallet.
โI donโt want your money. I want you to respect food,โ Samimi snapped. โNot everyone is impressed by your filthy rich-knight attitude.โ
With that, she crouched down to pick up the fallen fruit pieces and plates.
After cleaning up, Samimi and Niubao headed back to their room to rest.
Fabiana stood to the side, trembling slightly, feeling worse than ever.
She crept quietly to the window of their room to spy.
She had wanted to bait a peeping tomโyet now she was the one peeking.
Inside, Samimi sat calmly on her wooden bed, meditating. Faint lights of healing magic glimmered around herโa peaceful scene of focused cultivation.
Beside her, Niubao read a storybook in the soft glow, sitting quietly. When she grew sleepy, she climbed into bed on her own.
The sight was so warm, so peaceful, so enviable.
โItโs only the first day… I will catch you slipping.โ
โI refuse to admit… Samimi is not a good person.โ
The more Fabiana watched, the more complicated her emotions became.
But outwardly, her lips remained firm and stubborn.
