Song Qiuyu was truly baffled.
This was the first time in many days that Jiang Xiao mentioned her—the roommate—in a message, yet he stopped halfway through and didn’t continue.
As the saying goes, dangling a carrot and then pulling it away is just plain annoying!
Has this guy really never thought a little more about his own manhood?
I advise you to be kinder to it! Don’t be like yourself—only realizing its value after losing it, okay, Brother…
She stared at the message on her phone and bit her lip.
Damn it, what exactly is this guy trying to say?
“Song Qiuyu, where are you?”
Suddenly, Jiang Xiao’s voice came from outside the door.
“Eek!”
Startled, Song Qiuyu’s phone slipped from her hand like a diver, flipping once in mid-air, then landing face down on the floor with a heavy smack.
“Ah, my phone!!”
Hearing her scream, Jiang Xiao was momentarily stunned.
He turned his face, looking toward the source of the sound in surprise.
That reaction…
Could it be she was sneaking a peek at the message he sent?
With a creak, the bedroom door opened, and out came Song Qiuyu, looking completely defeated.
“Uh, Song Qiuyu, are you okay?”
Jiang Xiao frowned with some guilt as he watched her pale face and noticed the phone clenched tightly in her hand. Suddenly, he hesitated.
“Your phone…”
“It’s fine. This phone is pretty durable—just the screen’s cracked. But it still works okay for now.”
Song Qiuyu squinted, feeling a pang of pity as she looked at the spiderweb-like cracks on the screen.
“I see.”
Jiang Xiao felt somewhat relieved and exhaled.
“That’s good, then. We can just replace the screen tomorrow.”
Song Qiuyu nodded, looking pitiful.
Her eyes drooped slightly, faintly glistening, as if she was about to burst into tears just because her phone was broken. Jiang Xiao suddenly felt bad again.
“The food’s ready. Wash your hands and come sit down to eat.”
Jiang Xiao’s low, pleasant voice drifted into Song Qiuyu’s ears.
She sighed but immediately seemed to pull herself together, smiling again.
“Okay!”
She tucked the phone into her coat pocket and headed to wash her hands.
Jiang Xiao quietly watched her wash her hands, his mind drifting back to the message he sent that afternoon, falling into silence.
Who told her to lie to him for so long and then sneak a look at his messages?
She was probably going to be distracted during this whole dinner.
Sure enough, during the meal, Song Qiuyu was clearly lost in thought the entire time.
Even when she picked up the soybean sprouts, she was doing so one by one.
Seeing this, Jiang Xiao pondered and suddenly felt it would be unfair to keep pretending he didn’t notice her obvious distraction.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Oh, I was thinking—how about we go for a morning run together tomorrow?”
She was quick-witted, giving a somewhat reasonable excuse!
Alright, I’ll let you off today.
Jiang Xiao felt a little regretful.
“But now that I think about it…”
Song Qiuyu suddenly blinked at him and continued, “Jiang Xiao, why did you suddenly think of a morning run?”
“Because I want to take back what I lost.”
Jiang Xiao murmured.
There was a trace of self-mockery in his tone. Song Qiuyu caught it but didn’t understand what he meant—for now.
If this were Xie Zhuran, that idiot, it would make more sense.
“Speak plainly, I don’t get it!” Song Qiuyu snapped at Jiang Xiao without holding back.
She then picked up her chopsticks and grabbed two pieces of ham sausage for him, while ladling a bowl of soup for herself, drinking it in big gulps.
The soup was Chinese cabbage and tofu, quite refreshing.
“I mean my figure. The person I like once said they admired my figure, so I want to get it back to its best shape.”
Jiang Xiao smiled brightly and looked at her as he spoke.
Song Qiuyu was momentarily stunned. She didn’t detect any hint of meanness in his eyes, nor any pretentiousness in his words.
Get back into shape? But hasn’t Jiang Xiao always been in good shape? No, the key point is—the person he likes is Xi’er.
She had even said before that she admired Jiang Xiao’s body?
Song Qiuyu choked on her soup and suddenly coughed several times.
“So it’s still about that Xi’er, huh.”
“Yeah. Even though she’s no longer here, I still want to keep the shape she liked.”
Jiang Xiao said seriously.
Song Qiuyu didn’t bother to argue.
Anyway, Xi’er didn’t really admire Jiang Xiao’s body—if she said she did, it was probably just teasing the shy little virgin that Jiang Xiao was.
But to be fair, Jiang Xiao’s figure really was…
Hoo…
She herself couldn’t understand what she thought back when she was young. Now, at best, she was just jealous.
After dinner, just like at noon, Jiang Xiao washed all the dishes alone.
When Song Qiuyu tried to help, he shooed her away, so she had no choice but to sit on the sofa playing on her phone.
Even though they had agreed to take turns, considering her hand was burned today, Song Qiuyu suddenly wondered if she could just lie back and be fed for a few days.
This little shared living arrangement was actually quite comfortable.
Choosing to rent together was definitely the right call.
“So you’re really going to run with me tomorrow morning?”
Jiang Xiao asked suddenly while washing dishes.
“Of course!”
Song Qiuyu swung her legs, casually acting cute, her voice soft and sweet.
“No way?”
Jiang Xiao paused mid-motion.
“If you think I run too slow, you can run ahead, and I’ll just run slowly behind.”
Playing around, she shifted from sitting and using her phone to lying on the sofa playing.
“I wouldn’t say I’m annoyed.”
Jiang Xiao shook his head gently.
“Then it’s a deal.”
After a short rest, the phone player grabbed her change of clothes and went to the bathroom to shower. Jiang Xiao couldn’t help but be surprised by how clean she was.
It seemed the dormitory had limited her shower frequency.
Jiang Xiao pondered.
Late at night, the warm scent of body wash and shampoo filled the air.
<In bed, Song Qiuyu tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
She was still hung up on the unfinished message Jiang Xiao sent and kept trying to guess from his reactions today what he might have wanted to say.
The bed in the rental apartment was twice as big as the dormitory bed and much softer. Rolling around on it felt comfortable, but the more she rolled, the more awake she became.
After tossing and turning for a while, she felt thirsty. She sat up, got out of bed, and opened the bedroom door.
Hmm?
The bathroom light was on. She could hear running water… Jiang Xiao was showering at this hour?
Curious, she stepped out of the bedroom and into the living room, then picked up the electric kettle and poured hot water into her cup.
The sound of water stopped in the bathroom.
With a creak, the bathroom door opened, and Jiang Xiao stepped out, wrapped in a warm mist.
Hearing the noise, Song Qiuyu, holding her cup of hot water, instinctively turned her head to look.
Jiang Xiao seemed not to expect her sudden appearance in the living room. At the moment he saw her figure, his body stiffened slightly and froze in place.
His completely wet black hair was slicked back, with only a few strands of hair on his forehead. Water droplets ran down his sharp, clean face. His strong upper body was bare, and he wore only a towel wrapped around his waist, covering what shouldn’t be casually shown.
Song Qiuyu didn’t know how many times she had seen this in the dormitory, but for some reason, tonight, seeing Jiang Xiao’s toned muscles, her gaze lingered longer than usual…
Just like the first time she saw a Miss in a bikini ages ago, unable to look away.
What was wrong with her?
She admitted she occasionally looked at men with bodies like Peng Yuyan’s, but only to use them as fitness goals.
Tonight’s feeling was different—more like a mouse drawn to rice, her body instinctively attracted!
But compared to the muscles—
Her mouth still held water, cheeks puffed out, she slowly swallowed and lowered her eyes.
It had been a while since she’d seen him. This guy was still so…
She shouldn’t have gotten up to drink water.
“Hm?”
“How long were you watching?”
“You still watching? Song Qiuyu, are you some kind of pervert?”
Feeling the atmosphere turn awkward, Jiang Xiao looked at her a little unnerved, gripping the towel tighter around his waist. [He thought it was wrapped tightly enough, but if Song Qiuyu kept looking like this, she might get scolded by the angry little Jiang Xiao until the towel came loose.
Mistake. She should have been asleep. Why did she suddenly come out?
He could only hope that by saying this, Song Qiuyu would quickly look away. If not, he’d have to consider making her take responsibility for calming down the little Jiang Xiao.
If he wasn’t soothed, no one would sleep tonight.
The little pervert froze, as if his little secret had been uncovered, glancing around nervously and awkwardly.
But her fluster didn’t last long. She calmed down quickly, though not completely.
“Huh? Pervert? We’re bros, haven’t we seen each other before?”
Song Qiuyu said confidently.
“Besides, what you’ve got, I’ve got. When you changed clothes in the dorm, haven’t you already seen everything you shouldn’t and shouldn’t have?”
“Didn’t you even help me shower? If looking at you a few times makes me a pervert, then what about you?”
Song Qiuyu’s mind always turned fast at crucial moments.
Ah!
Jiang Xiao was speechless and didn’t know what to say.
Then Song Qiuyu, clutching her cup, cheeks flushed, mustered courage and took a bold step forward, standing before Jiang Xiao and looking up at him with wide eyes.
This completely threw Jiang Xiao off guard—usually the hunter spares the prey, but now the prey had run right into the gun barrel…
Song Qiuyu was utterly clueless.
Jiang Xiao’s gaze darkened as he locked eyes with her.
Thinking that Jiang Xiao’s unfinished message was the culprit behind her insomnia, Song Qiuyu snorted softly, bit her lip, and grew even more annoyed.
Then she recalled that the source of all this was actually her own foolish younger self. She was nearly furious.
She lowered her eyes, furious, and suddenly jabbed a finger into Jiang Xiao’s left pectoral muscle.
After jabbing, she bolted toward the bedroom but then deliberately peeked out again, chuckling softly.
“Not bad, huh? Bigger than some women’s chests!”
Jiang Xiao: “?”
