After she finished feeding the few cat strips she had brought over, the little black cat seemed to be full, adopting a lazy posture.
Although it still let out comfortable whimpers and chirps in response to Ling Xiaoyou’s stroking and chin scratches, she could clearly tell it was already getting drowsy.
Seeing this, Ling Xiaoyou pinched the little black cat’s cheek to wake it from its near-slumber.
As the cat looked at her with a puzzled gaze, she said, “Since you’re sleepy, hurry up and go home. Or did you want to sleep here at my place?”
“Meow~”
The little black cat looked into Ling Xiaoyou’s crimson eyes and let out a cry. Ling Xiaoyou could vaguely hear a hint of concern in that sound.
“Are you worried about my mood?”
Ling Xiaoyou stroked the little black cat’s fur and said, “I’m actually fine. It’s just that I won’t be seeing a very good friend for a while. It’s not to the point where you need to worry.”
The little black cat quietly looked into Ling Xiaoyou’s eyes, as if trying to confirm whether she was just putting on a brave face.
After watching for a while and failing to see any deception or forced strength in Ling Xiaoyou’s eyes, the little black cat meowed twice, as if saying goodbye.
Then, she gave a nimble leap and her figure vanished from Ling Xiaoyou’s sight.
Glancing in the direction the little black cat had disappeared, Ling Xiaoyou threw the empty cat strip packaging into the trash can by the entryway.
She then closed the door and returned to the sofa in the living room.
She grabbed a throw pillow, hugged it to her chest, and plopped down on the sofa.
Her eyes stared blankly ahead, like a doll devoid of emotion.
Ling Xiaoyou couldn’t quite describe her current state.
She felt a sense of loss, like when she had finished a game she really liked. However, the current situation seemed different from back then, though she couldn’t say exactly how.
Lost in thought, Ling Xiaoyou pondered these questions.
Suddenly, she felt a ringtone coming from her Space Ring; it seemed someone was looking for her.
‘Could it be Bai Shuanglian?!’
The moment this thought appeared, it occupied Ling Xiaoyou’s mind.
An expectant expression surfaced on her face as she hurriedly pulled her mobile phone out of her Space Ring.
She looked at the caller ID, and her face immediately fell.
The caller displayed on the screen was — Su Lihua.
‘Why are you calling at a time like this? You made me think it was Bai Shuanglian…’
Ling Xiaoyou was extremely disappointed. She even considered simply not answering Su Lihua’s call.
But the phone rang for quite a while; it seemed Su Lihua did not intend to give up.
Ling Xiaoyou also felt it would be a bit too much to ignore the call after clearly hearing it.
After thinking for a moment, she answered and said to the other end, “Hello, is there something you need?”
Even though she was willing to pick up, Ling Xiaoyou’s heart was still full of disappointment, and even a bit of resentment.
On the other end, Su Lihua heard this voice and words full of resentment.
She fell silent for a moment before tentatively asking, “Should I not have called at this time?”
‘At least you know.’
Ling Xiaoyou let out a soft huff but didn’t continue to be moody. After all, this matter had nothing to do with Su Lihua, and there was no need to vent her resentment on her.
“It’s nothing. It’s fine to call at this time. I’m off work anyway,” Ling Xiaoyou said casually.
“Just don’t call any later than this; I’ll likely be asleep by then.”
After speaking, Ling Xiaoyou paused.
She remembered the messages Bai Shuanglian used to harass her with before bed.
She didn’t know what Bai Shuanglian had been thinking back then.
It really was just awkward small talk!
But thinking about it now, it was actually quite interesting!
The corners of the girl’s mouth curled up slightly. Suddenly, as if realizing something, she shook her head vigorously.
‘No, why do I keep reminiscing about these things?!’
‘It’s as if Bai Shuanglian were dead! That’s so unlucky!’
‘I can’t keep thinking about this!’
Hearing the rustling sounds from the other end of the phone, Su Lihua scratched her head, unable to figure out what was happening.
She simply changed the subject and said, “Forget about that. By the way, what have you been doing lately?”
Hearing this, Ling Xiaoyou tilted her head in confusion and said, “Why are you asking me this?”
“Just curious. Tell me.”
