Pioneer—that was Monice’s former codename, though these days she preferred simply being called Monice.
“The transformation technology was my invention, but… I can’t modify that many people on my own. Do you have any ideas?”
“The past few days on the surface have been chaotic. The Magic Department has been arresting people everywhere. I heard they’ve taken into custody everyone who knows how to perform transformation surgery.”
After a day of missions, Luo Shuangxing dragged her exhausted body into the bedroom and shared her recent observations with Luo Shuangyue.
This news stunned Luo Shuangyue. Arresting those who perform transformation surgery? Wouldn’t that make Monice—their leader—the first to be caught?
What on earth was the Magic Department up to? At a time when unity was crucial against external enemies, surely they wouldn’t turn against their own.
Although Eternal Night had previously clashed with the Magic Department, Monice had been performing quite well lately. Cooperation was in place where needed.
It was perplexing.
“Any other news?” Luo Shuangyue suddenly sat up with a start. As a member of Eternal Night, she couldn’t just stay indifferent at a time like this.
At least she had to feign concern.
“You want to ask about Eternal Night, right? I don’t know much.” Luo Shuangxing shook her head. She had only heard these tidbits from idle chatter.
If there was anything unusual, it was that the Magic Department’s convoys escorting supplies used to be all tough-faced men.
But now, there were some remarkably handsome older sisters in the ranks.
And those women carried a strange, distinctive aura that gave Luo Shuangxing a peculiar feeling.
It was as if they were monsters, but their aura wasn’t chaotic and bloodthirsty—it leaned more toward order.
Right! Luo Shuangxing suddenly remembered: those ladies’ auras resembled the Nightscale Phantom Scythe!
Upon hearing this, Luo Shuangyue clenched her palm in realization. She had a pretty good idea what those handsome older sisters were.
They were definitely Transhumans! And the transformation technology officially approved and used by the Magic Department Headquarters had to be Monice’s work.
This wasn’t blind faith in her leader; it was that every other faction researching transformation technology was just too mediocre.
The Magic Department, with its vast resources, regarded human transformation as an untouchable taboo for various reasons.
Other Evil Organizations, while trying to develop this technology, were limited in their abilities and resorted to crude and violent methods.
Eternal Night was different. It wasn’t under the Magic Department’s restrictions.
Compared to other Evil Organizations, their leader was a Full Bloom-Class Magical Girl who understood magic far beyond those groups.
Where did Monice’s decades of research funding come from?
A large portion came from various Evil Organizations.
After all, Evil Organizations didn’t want their Transhumans to be unstable ticking bombs. They eagerly sought any method to improve the stability of their modified humans.
Coincidentally, Monice didn’t want low-quality, brutal transformation technology hurting more people. Both sides were willing—one to pay, the other to provide—so the deal was struck.
“I think I understand what’s going on.” Luo Shuangyue nodded, a knowing expression crossing her face.
“Oh? Do tell.”
“Kids don’t need to know so much. Anyway, it’s not a bad thing.” Stretching lazily, Luo Shuangyue lay back down, signaling she was tired and ready to rest.
But leaving someone’s curiosity hanging like that was never a good idea.
Luo Shuangxing angrily pounced onto Luo Shuangyue’s bed, grabbed her sister’s slender shoulders, and said fiercely, “You know it’s annoying to only tell half the story, right?!”
With a helpless eye roll, Luo Shuangyue flicked her fingers lightly on her sister’s forehead.
“The Headquarters is rolling out transformation technology everywhere. They’re arresting everyone who knows the surgery because they’re short-handed.”
Transformation technology rolled out nationwide? Hearing this, Luo Shuangxing froze for several seconds.
But hadn’t she heard before that transformation technology was wrong? The Magic Department propaganda claimed natural was best.
In her mind, transformation tech was dark and evil. All the freaks she’d met were bloodthirsty villains, so she instinctively rejected it.
Now Luo Shuangyue was telling her the Magic Department Headquarters was fully promoting it?
That was hard to accept.
“But… isn’t human modification a bad thing?” Confusion flickered in her golden eyes. A deeply held belief had suddenly shattered, leaving her at a loss.
This was why Luo Shuangyue didn’t want to tell her the full truth earlier—she was too innocent and pure, almost naively so.
The line between good and bad wasn’t so clear. Take transformation tech—it walked a wide gray area between both.
“Technology is just a tool. It’s neither good nor bad. Its morality depends on who wields it.” Luo Shuangyue shifted, sitting up straighter.
Then she gently stroked her sister’s head, speaking in a motherly tone.
“Transformation tech used to have many serious flaws, so the Magic Department’s opposition was understandable. But now, as those flaws get fixed and it becomes genuinely beneficial to humanity, why would they keep rejecting it just because of prejudice?”
“Things aren’t peaceful anymore. Recently, the number of monsters attacking from deep in space has increased drastically. The Magic Department can’t handle it all.”
Luo Shuangyue had clearly felt the rising battle intensity these past days—from a fight every few hours to nearly every hour now. The monster numbers had multiplied several times.
At the Lunar Base, the Magical Girls were all under high-pressure combat, working in two shifts to patrol and fight.
Though things looked stable for now, the Magic Department knew this was just the calm before the storm.
After all, that King-class Magic Beast hadn’t truly descended yet.
In this life-or-death war for humanity, the Magic Department had to do everything to boost their strength.
How to improve combat power?
It wasn’t like magic girls would suddenly sprout from the ground.
So the only option was weaker versions of magic girls—the Transhumans.
Though not as powerful as magical girls, they were still stronger than ordinary humans. With them, the Magic Department could redirect more power to space, easing the pressure above.
“So, don’t overthink it. We just need to do our part. The adults will handle the big stuff.”
Luo Shuangxing smirked. “You’re not with the Magic Department, so of course, you can afford to sit back and do nothing.”
Luo Shuangxing was a Magic Department Magical Girl, and Luo Shuangyue was an outlaw of Eternal Night—their perspectives naturally clashed.
“See? You’re childish, and you don’t deny it.” Luo Shuangyue pinched Luo Shuangxing’s smooth, elastic cheek playfully. “Get off me already. Behave yourself.”
Called childish, Luo Shuangxing puffed out her cheeks—“You bad sister! I must punish you!”
“I’m not getting off. I’m sleeping on you today!” she growled.
A giant hashtag symbol immediately appeared on Luo Shuangyue’s forehead. What kind of talk was that?!
Besides, had Luo Shuangxing forgotten that Luo Shuangyue was Dark Moth now? Couldn’t she show some respect for her current identity?
Lily of the Valley and Dark Moth didn’t get along—that was set in stone. People who disliked each other couldn’t share the same bed.
Besides, if Luo Shuangxing slept here, where would Xia Mo sleep when she got back?
“Get down.”
“No! I’m sleeping here today!” Luo Shuangxing began unbuttoning her clothes outright.
“Wait, are you serious?” Luo Shuangyue quickly grabbed her sister’s wrist, but Luo Shuangxing had already undone several buttons at her collar, revealing pale skin beneath.
To others, that half-revealed look might be alluring.
But it didn’t work on Luo Shuangyue.
Who would have improper thoughts about their own sister?
Luo Shuangyue wasn’t that kind of person—whether as a brother or sister.
To her, Luo Shuangxing was just a little kid, no matter how pretty or cute she looked.
“That’s not right,” Luo Shuangyue said firmly.
“I’m just trying. Just for one night.” Luo Shuangxing’s gaze was resolute.
Since forever, Luo Shuangyue had shared a bed with Xia Mo. Sometimes Luo Shuangxing managed to wrestle Xia Mo away, but she had never actually slept with Luo Shuangyue.
The last time they slept on the same bed was so long ago neither remembered clearly.
In Luo Shuangxing’s clearer memories, she never shared a bed with Luo Shuangyue.
Before, she could convince herself it was because of gender differences.
But now?
Luo Shuangyue was Dark Moth—a girl! So, sharing a bed with her roommate to get closer wasn’t a big deal.
Right?
“Or do you dislike me?” Luo Shuangxing glared sharply.
At that moment, Luo Shuangyue felt it—her sister was asking her, not Dark Moth, but as a sibling.
“Not at all.” Luo Shuangyue’s eyes flickered, her grip on Luo Shuangxing’s wrist loosening.
“Then that’s settled. We’re both girls—what’s the harm in sharing a bed?” Luo Shuangxing grinned mischievously, and instantly, the two switched between being Lily of the Valley and Dark Moth.
The dual identities still had their uses.
“We don’t get along. Remember how badly we’ve treated each other?” Luo Shuangyue replied. “Ordinary girls might get closer by sleeping together, but we’re different—I’m your sworn enemy.”
“But I think you’re a good person now. I want to be friends. Is that so wrong?” Luo Shuangxing pressed on.
Since the first day at the Lunar Base, she’d said she wanted to improve relations with Dark Moth. Now, bringing it up again sounded especially convincing.
Even Luo Shuangyue struggled to find a proper excuse to refuse.
“I promised Rosemary…” In the end, Luo Shuangyue could only mention Xia Mo to try and deter Luo Shuangxing.
But it didn’t work. Luo Shuangxing happily said she’d talk to the senior and see if Xia Mo would give up the bed to her for a night.
After saying that, Luo Shuangxing cheerfully climbed off Luo Shuangyue’s bed, humming as she headed to the bathroom.
Not long after she left, Xia Mo walked in.
Seeing Luo Shuangyue sitting dumbly on the bed with a defeated expression, Xia Mo grew curious. “What’s wrong?”
Luo Shuangyue grimaced and recounted everything that had just happened in detail, then solemnly begged Xia Mo not to agree to Luo Shuangxing’s unreasonable request.
She definitely didn’t want to sleep with Luo Shuangxing as her body pillow!
“Uh…” Xia Mo scratched her cheek, suddenly at a loss.
She hovered between refusal and acceptance but couldn’t decide.
If another girl made such a request, Xia Mo would have immediately said no. After all, a wife couldn’t be lent out.
But Luo Shuangxing was special—her sister by blood and Xia Mo’s soul sister. It was like a little sister coaxing her second sister to give up the big sister for a night. Not so easy to refuse.
Just then, Luo Shuangxing emerged from the bathroom after a quick shower.
Seeing Xia Mo back, her golden eyes sparkled with excitement as she ran over and grabbed Xia Mo’s hand to make her request.
Looking at Luo Shuangxing’s expectant gaze, Xia Mo couldn’t find it in her heart to say no.
Glancing at Luo Shuangyue’s pleading face, Xia Mo was completely stuck.
“How about… the three of us sleep together?” she asked quietly.
Obviously, this was impossible. The single bed could barely fit two. A third would mean someone ended up on the floor.
“I don’t know. Whatever.” After the sisters shot her a look of refusal, Xia Mo resigned herself to making Luo Shuangyue compromise.
There was no way out. Both held important places in her heart, and agreeing to Luo Shuangxing’s request would cause less trouble than refusing.
After all, Luo Shuangyue had the toughest mouth of all three. She might not actually mind sleeping with her sister.
