Silence was the only atmosphere in this shabby dormitory at this moment.
If there was a word to describe it, it would be “so quiet you could hear a pin drop.”
Bai Shuanglian felt her heart fill with disbelief.
Ling Xiaoyou’s blunt words seemed to still echo in her ears.
‘I wouldn’t go looking for a minor no matter how I think about it! If I really had to, I’d at least go for a beautiful girl like you, Bai Shuanglian!’
From childhood to now, it was the first time someone had teased her like this, and it was by a small, fragile-looking ghost!
Unbelievable!
Now, a mixture of shame and anger was welling up inside Bai Shuanglian.
Most of it came from Ling Xiaoyou’s teasing, but a small part was a feeling she couldn’t explain, as if she was being looked down upon.
Clearly, this fellow was so weak, yet her words made it seem as if Bai Shuanglian was the one being forced!
Even if something like that really happened, she should be the one taking the lead!
…No, she would never do something like that!
This damned girl had completely twisted her thoughts!
The shame and anger in her heart kept building, and it showed on Bai Shuanglian’s delicate face as a cold, frosty expression.
Feeling the temperature in the room drop and seeing Bai Shuanglian’s increasingly icy look, Ling Xiaoyou instantly realized she had said the wrong thing.
But she had no way to explain.
Earlier, she’d been too anxious and failed to suppress that strange, alluring force from Bai Shuanglian that always distracted her.
By the time she came to her senses and tried to suppress the impulse, it was already too late.
The words had slipped out.
“Uh…well, I think I can explai—”
Seeing Bai Shuanglian’s face growing colder, Ling Xiaoyou forced herself to speak, wanting to fix things, but her words were cut off by a frost-covered, ice-blue longsword flashing with cold light.
She hurriedly twisted her waist to dodge the ice-blue longsword aiming for her side.
Ling Xiaoyou understood Bai Shuanglian wasn’t about to stop and listen to her explanation now.
So…
Time to run!
I’m out of here!
Ling Xiaoyou’s figure faded, turning into a wisp of green smoke that shot through the window and sped away.
Seeing this, Bai Shuanglian snorted, tossed the ice-blue longsword from her hand, and kicked off, stepping onto it and chasing in the direction Ling Xiaoyou fled.
In the shabby dormitory, only Li Yarou, looking completely stunned, and the chubby and short girls who had rushed over at the sudden noise were left staring at each other in confusion.
***
In the sky, two figures, one white and one black, raced through the air over New Sea City.
Strangely, no one on the ground seemed to notice them, as if they didn’t exist.
Ling Xiaoyou turned her little head and saw Bai Shuanglian standing on a Flying Sword, tightly following behind with pursed lips and a clearly displeased expression.
When she noticed Ling Xiaoyou looking back, she even glared.
To be honest, Bai Shuanglian was very beautiful.
Even such behavior didn’t diminish her charm; if anything, it gave her the feeling of a sulky girlfriend.
But Ling Xiaoyou suddenly realized something, and quickly suppressed the strange attraction she’d felt towards Bai Shuanglian since meeting her, focusing on flying faster to try to shake her off.
The two sped through the air, neither showing any sign of slowing, even when confronted with towering buildings.
Ling Xiaoyou passed straight through a building, while Bai Shuanglian maneuvered her Flying Sword quickly around it, staying close behind.
The air currents passed through Ling Xiaoyou’s body, but did nothing to slow her down.
Still, she couldn’t lose Bai Shuanglian.
No matter how skilled she was at escape techniques, Ling Xiaoyou couldn’t cross several major levels of strength to shake off someone as powerful as Bai Shuanglian.
She glanced back at Bai Shuanglian and shouted,
“So I told you it was an accident! Can’t you stop chasing me?!”
“I’m apologizing, okay?!”
At her words, Bai Shuanglian gave a light laugh.
It was a beautiful smile, but Ling Xiaoyou couldn’t feel any warmth from it.
“Apologize? If apologizing was enough, what use would there be for the police?”
“But you didn’t call the police!”
Ling Xiaoyou retorted while flying.
“We Exorcists are the police of both the Spirit Realm and the living world!”
Bai Shuanglian crossed her arms.
“So I’m deciding right now that you’re offending a police officer. Stop this instant!”
Only an idiot would stop!
Ling Xiaoyou silently grumbled in her heart, her speed increasing even more.
Bai Shuanglian didn’t expect a few words to stop Ling Xiaoyou either; she was just saying whatever came to mind.
She didn’t intend to kill Ling Xiaoyou.
After all, she hadn’t done anything truly evil—just said some offensive words.
But not killing her didn’t mean Bai Shuanglian wouldn’t do something else.
She had to punish this little ghost who dared tease her!
Hmm, how should she punish her?
“Uwah!”
Feeling the mysterious chill from behind, Ling Xiaoyou shivered, almost colliding with an office worker inside a building.
Luckily, she reacted in time to dodge.
She didn’t want to have such contact!
***
As the two—a ghost and a human—raced through the sky, they failed to notice a well-dressed Western man with blond hair and blue eyes suddenly look up from the ground, watching their chase above.
The man paused as he opened his car door, gazing up with interest.
“Oh, I didn’t expect the Exorcist of New Sea City to be so entertaining—playing a racing game with a ghost.”
He smiled, but the expression was more mocking than amused.
He shrugged.
“But what does this have to do with an innocent Devil like me?”
He stopped paying attention to the playful chase above and turned to the heavily made-up middle-aged woman beside him, whose cosmetics masked the traces of time on her face.
He flashed a bright smile.
“Let’s go, Miss Wang. I’ve already made a reservation at the Venus Restaurant on the west side. I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful night.”
At his words and smile, the middle-aged woman’s face became infatuated.
“Yes, Mr. Naer.”
Watching the woman enter the car and sit in the passenger seat with that entranced smile, the man grinned with satisfaction.
Heh, Exorcists—how ridiculous.
