After Mu Wannuo and Director Zhang left, only Ning Chuxue and Ying remained in the room.
Ying kept asking questions nonstop, from her relationship with Director Zhang to gossip around campus.
Ning Chuxue couldn’t get a word in, so she just kept nodding to alleviate the embarrassment hidden beneath the surface.
“Chuxue.”
As Ying grew more aggressive, her address for Ning Chuxue changed from “Miss Ning” to “Chuxue.”
“I, I’m here…” Ning Chuxue said nervously while sitting on the stool.
Confirming that Ning Chuxue was listening to her, Ying felt a strange sense of satisfaction.
“It really feels good to be noticed. Miss Chuxue is an angel!”
No one had ever patiently listened to her complaints before. Chuxue was the first!
At this moment, Ying was completely immersed in her own world, completely oblivious to Ning Chuxue’s flushed face from embarrassment.
Her personal monologue grew more and more enthusiastic, until she was completely lost in it.
It covered all sorts of topics.
During her chatterbox-like sharing, a small object on Ning Chuxue’s chest was emitting a faint, almost invisible green glow.
It was faint, impossible to notice without careful observation, so neither of them noticed.
Knock, knock—the sudden sound of knocking broke Ying’s intense atmosphere.
“I’ll go check. Wait for me, Chuxue.”
Ning Chuxue had long lost track of what she was saying, and nodded reflexively.
Seeing Ning Chuxue’s response, Ying hurried to the door, muttering to herself, “Strange, the teacher doesn’t have an appointment at this hour. Maybe she didn’t tell me?”
With doubt, she gripped the door handle, pulled it down, and called out, “Who is it?”
Ying stuck her head out to look.
“Is that person named Mu here?” A male voice responded.
Upon seeing the visitor, Ying’s pupils instantly contracted.
The person outside was the boy who had caused trouble downstairs—Qian Sheng.
“What are you doing here?” Ying’s friendly expression vanished, her demeanor turning dark.
After a moment, she thought of something and continued, “How did you find this place?”
Professors’ offices are generally not publicly known. Although not exactly secret, finding them requires some inquiry. Not to mention Ying’s teacher, Director Zhang, who had almost never mentioned her office location to outsiders.
Qian Sheng didn’t care about any of that. He sneered and looked at cautious Ying. “Just an associate professor’s office. Don’t worry, I’m not interested in you—provided you’re willing to hand over the little mouse hiding inside…”
Ying could now fully conclude that Qian Sheng was here to cause trouble.
“And if I say no?”
But she wasn’t someone to be trifled with. Born into a family of sanda champions, Ying had also trained in some techniques! She could easily take on two ordinary unarmed adults. If it were three, she might have to think twice.
But just now, Ying had scanned the surroundings—there was only Qian Sheng alone. So until now, she still couldn’t figure out where his confidence came from.
Seeing that Ying wouldn’t take the soft approach, Qian Sheng took a baton from the black bag hanging on his back. “Then you leave me no choice.”
The baton was about forty centimeters long, roughly the length of an adult’s palm plus forearm. Its thickness and material were similar to a police baton.
Qian Sheng had learned from his father that Mu Wannuo had recommended a transfer student, and that transfer student’s enrollment seal was in Director Zhang’s hands. So he speculated that the smaller person behind Mu Wannuo was that transfer student, and the place they were heading might be Director Zhang’s office.
After asking his father for Director Zhang’s address, he had been lurking outside for most of the day. Sure enough, he happened to see Mu Wannuo and Director Zhang leave the office one after another. This further confirmed his judgment: that smaller one was also inside!
The only unexpected thing was that besides the smaller one, there was an outsider inside. It was just a small variable.
Qian Sheng glanced at the heavy baton in his hand, his confidence rising. “I’ll give you one more chance. Tell me where that girl from before is?”
“Troublesome…” Ying’s composed mindset vanished the moment he took out the baton. She was wary of that forty-centimeter baton, and there was no tool comparable to it around.
Just then, a faint voice came from behind her. “Miss Ying, who is it?”
Ning Chuxue was holding a brown teddy bear, just the size of her belly. This teddy bear was shoved into her hands by Mu Wannuo before she left. Although Ning Chuxue didn’t know why she carried a plush toy with her, she still held it.
Ying turned around and looked at Ning Chuxue, who was approaching her with a puzzled expression and light steps. Noticing Ying’s gaze, Ning Chuxue instinctively gripped the bear tighter.
“An… angel?”
As she watched Ning Chuxue approach, she seemed to radiate a holy glow. Especially with the cute brown bear in her arms as decoration, a few strands of her hair tangled on the bear. Ning Chuxue’s expression was plain, but that was a plus—a kind of silly, naive beauty.
“No, no, now’s not the time to think about that!” Ying blinked rapidly, dispelling Ning Chuxue’s innate charm effect.
Close call, almost got friendly-fired.
Back to normal, Ying secretly waved behind her back to signal Ning Chuxue not to come closer. But in Ning Chuxue’s eyes, her movements looked particularly comical.
“I heard it, that’s the voice!” Qian Sheng keenly caught the sound from inside the room, his eyes lighting up. He vaguely remembered that soft voice. Hearing it again now, there was no mistake.
He looked at Ying still blocking the door, his expression darker. “I advise you not to meddle in other people’s business.”
But Ying completely ignored him. Watching Ning Chuxue get closer, she was panicking inside. She also knew that Qian Sheng’s target was never herself. With him holding a baton, she wasn’t confident she could take him down. Let Ning Chuxue join the fight? That was out of the question.
Qian Sheng didn’t want to waste time on her. He found the right moment and forcefully pushed the door open. Ying couldn’t react in time and failed to hold it.
The door swung open, and he caught sight of Ning Chuxue, the madness in his eyes fully unleashed. “Found you.”
All he wanted now was to break Ning Chuxue’s arms and legs and throw her out to feed the fish.
“If it weren’t for you, how could I have become the laughingstock of the school!” Qian Sheng’s glare was vicious, as if looking at a mortal enemy.
Ning Chuxue’s eyes widened in terror as she stepped back, gripping the teddy bear even tighter.
“Heh, I’ll make you taste what it’s like to be humiliated in public!” With that threat, Qian Sheng raised the baton and charged in.
He was very strong; Ying was no match for him.
Just as Qian Sheng was about to grab Ning Chuxue, the sound of a camera shutter suddenly rang out, accompanied by a flash of light.
