The Green Mist dissipated, and the street slowly returned to normal. Unknowingly, night had fallen.
The incident made the news quickly, but was soon suppressed, bundled together with several “accidental car crashes” involving vehicles carrying illegal chemicals by the shore of Rust Lake.
Any information about Mistmasters was thoroughly hidden, and the public’s anger was carefully redirected toward a vaguely described Foreign Hengyi Organization in the reports.
All those who had inhaled the Green Mist and survived, as long as they received timely treatment, managed to escape death. But still, there were not a few casualties.
The hospital had already run out of beds, so the local authorities simply set up a Temporary Clinic near the scene for emergency treatment.
Among the many victims, Lu Yunze recovered better than most. He hadn’t inhaled much Green Mist, and the rashes faded quickly under the effect of Special Binding.
If there was still any lingering discomfort, it was probably just the lingering weakness from having used that new technique.
“Doctor, does that mean I can be discharged now?”
“You’ll still need to take your medicine.” The doctor from the Execution Division pushed up his glasses. “Although your case isn’t very severe, you do have some other injuries inside, which appear to have been caused by something else. You’ll need a few more days of medication to fully recover.”
“Ah, I see, alright.”
Lu Yunze was just glad the doctor didn’t dig deeper into those other injuries. He took the prescribed medicine and stepped out of the tent.
Stepping onto the street, he was greeted by the sorrowful faces of the people and the hurried movements of the police.
Shouts and cries filled the air, and the scent of disinfectant still lingered in the atmosphere.
Lu Yunze wandered the area for a while, and saw a figure arguing with Luo Yao nearby.
Because of her special status, Luo Yao had received extra care. Even though her condition was more serious than Lu Yunze’s, she was already awake and moving about.
She didn’t look too happy, because the girl in front of her was still chattering nonstop.
“Luo Yao, we haven’t seen each other for half a year, but you don’t seem as lively as before.”
“Your senses have gotten sharper, though.”
“Anyway, I just happened to deal with the culprit behind this whole mess and got commended for it, that’s all.”
“Impressive.”
Lu Yunze, having worried that the Mistmaster hadn’t died, reported this matter to the Execution Division, only to learn the person had already been taken care of by someone from the Execution Division.
That twin-tailed girl, it was said, was a striker brought in by the Execution Division, and was the one who delivered the final, fatal blow to the Mistmaster.
Central Plaza was different from Lan City; here, Luo Yao attracted not only fans, but also Ten Gold Young Ladies from other families. Lu Yunze figured this girl was one of them.
Still, Lu Yunze had no intention of getting involved in their drama, trusting Luo Yao to handle such personal matters herself.
After watching from a distance for a while, Lu Yunze continued to wander nearby, his eyes anxiously scanning the crowd.
He checked every unfamiliar face that came into view, but couldn’t find that familiar, gentle face anywhere.
Could it be that Jiang Sui was sent to the hospital?
Since the battle ended, Lu Yunze hadn’t seen her, and the worry in his heart refused to subside.
He had returned to the Mist area and fought a powerful enemy, even risked taking medicine that harmed his own body, all for the sake of rescuing his little maid.
The enemy was dealt with now, but the girl he longed for still hadn’t appeared. That made Lu Yunze feel a dull ache inside.
The victims beyond saving had already been moved onto stretchers and covered with white sheets.
Lu Yunze almost pulled one back to check, but finally restrained himself.
As long as he didn’t see her in that way, he could still reassure himself that she was alive somewhere.
After all, it was Jiang Sui—someone who had survived so much in Lan City, who even if life fell into darkness, would never give up.
A mere disease caused by a little Green Mist—she would surely pull through.
If only I could be by her side, she would have even more reason to keep going.
With such thoughts, Lu Yunze returned to his own tent and, following the doctor’s instructions, took his medicine.
He saw someone push open the curtain and come in. Without looking up, Lu Yunze assumed it was Luo Yao.
“Your condition’s worse than mine, so you shouldn’t be walking around. Wouldn’t it be better to let someone take care of you?”
“Young Master, I came to report that everyone else is safe.”
That voice was much softer, much more familiar. The moment he heard it, Lu Yunze suddenly looked up, finally seeing that gentle face of Jiang Sui.
After a brief moment of being stunned, he immediately stood up and rushed over to her, asking in a low, hoarse voice,
“Are you alright? Where did you go? Why didn’t you contact me?”
He held her shoulders, his hands shaking, nearly unable to resist picking her up right there and checking her from head to toe.
Because of his anxious actions, Jiang Sui had to step back twice, only to bump into the tent pole supporting the structure.
Just then, a faint electric shock spread from where she’d been hit all the way up her back, and her face went noticeably pale.
“Your face looks terrible. Are you still feeling unwell?”
“No, no, I’m fine.”
Jiang Sui quickly pulled her hand away, finally helping Lu Yunze calm down and giving her some space to breathe.
“I’m really fine, Young Master. After getting the doctor’s medicine, I came to find you right away.”
“How’s your condition?”
“Although there are still some traces left, it’s nothing serious.”
To make Lu Yunze believe her, Jiang Sui even raised her pale, slender hand. There were still a few red rashes left on the back of her hand, and some marks of rash healing on her wrist.
She casually made up a reason, saying she hadn’t been in the mist area when it happened, and managed to stay outside during the chaos, thus avoiding inhaling much.
It wasn’t a very convincing excuse, but it was enough for the current Lu Yunze.
“I see. No wonder you weren’t there when Lin Ying led the team. I suppose you got lucky in the disaster.”
Lu Yunze finally relaxed, his expression easing at last.
“Young Master, you always worry about me, but clearly your situation looks even worse than mine. Did you… did you deliberately run into danger just for my sake?”
“No, no way. I just wanted to take the initiative and solve the problem at its source.”
As Lu Yunze spoke, he turned his slightly flushed face to the side.
Jiang Sui’s lips curved in an amused smile. She reached out and tapped his neck gently, as if lightly blocking his breath.
“Young Master, your face is all red.”
“That’s just a side effect of the medicine.”
Jiang Sui wasn’t about to let him off so easily. She pressed herself gently against his chest, resting her ear above his heart.
“Young Master, your heartbeat is so fast…”
“You—you’re so close, how could it not be?”
Lu Yunze held his breath, letting her soft body lean against him. Sometimes he almost imagined she was like a pillow pressing up, and it was just so comfortable.
Lost in this soft, gentle moment, Lu Yunze’s defenses finally crumbled. He had to admit—he really was worried about her.
Only then did Jiang Sui willingly move away from him. She tapped the tip of his nose, smiling mischievously, “Young Master is just too cute, like a shy little cub.”
“Who’s the little cub…”
Lu Yunze muttered, straightening up, while also allowing Jiang Sui to sit beside him and rest.
Jiang Sui’s brows twitched, but she still pretended nothing had happened and sat down. Yet the way her hip pressed into the gap between the blanket and the bed almost made her let out a sound.
To cover her own discomfort, she deliberately pressed her legs together and patted her plump thigh, laughing:
“Young Master, you must be tired. Do you want to use my lap as a pillow?”
“Would that really be alright?”
Lu Yunze hesitated at first, but seeing her so enthusiastic, finally accepted and slowly lay down.
The girl’s soft thighs felt comfortable and relaxing, and Lu Yunze quickly unwound.
It seemed someone had done this for him once before.
A few vague faces appeared in Lu Yunze’s mind. It was as if in some past life, his head had always rested on this girl’s lap.
She wore a gentle, slightly teasing smile, and as she bent over, the four-leaf clover necklace around her neck glimmered in the sun.
Warm, soft, so comfortable.
Lu Yunze instinctively turned over and hugged the girl’s plump thigh.
Jiang Sui was startled for a moment, her knees weakening slightly.
All this time, as Lu Yunze wandered around, someone had been secretly watching him.
She had originally planned to use Lu Yunze’s concern to get some small revenge for earlier, but seeing him like this, she gave up on the idea.
At least this crisis had been averted, and she hadn’t expected Lu Yunze to actually defeat the Mistmaster by himself.
It was far beyond what Jiang Sui had imagined, but it also fit perfectly with her plans.
In just a few months, Lu Yunze’s abilities had already grown so much. Given more time, wouldn’t there be even greater surprises?
Jiang Sui looked down at the Young Master lying on her lap. Her palm gently stroked his face, her smile growing bolder.
For me, he grew stronger. For me, he braved danger. That’s the Lu Yunze I wanted!
Against enemies, he was ruthless and decisive. But facing me, right now, he looked just like a puppy missing its master.
Mine alone. My tool, my treasure in the palm of my hand.
Jiang Sui squeezed her thigh a little tighter.
No good, I need to distract myself.
Her panties were already a bit damp. If this continued, Lu Yunze might just notice…
