Time to close the net.
Cluru and I followed the Azure Dragon Academy classmate who stole the takeout, tracking him all the way back to his dormitory.
Of course, to avoid alerting him and to keep things interesting, Cluru and I both disguised our appearances.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
We knocked on the door of the boys’ dormitory.
“Didn’t you say you wouldn’t be back this noon?” The takeout thief reluctantly came over and opened the door.
Seeing only a short person dressed in a ninja outfit and a large box at the door, he looked puzzled. “What’s up? Who are you looking for? This is the boys’ dorm.”
“At 12:40 this noon, did you steal a takeout at the school gate?”
The takeout thief was stunned.
He didn’t expect anyone to come knocking on his door.
It made no sense; there were no cameras at the school gate.
Thinking this, he suddenly felt confident. “You’ve got the wrong person.”
He said this and tried to close the door.
“Wrong person?” I was quick and blocked the door with my foot. “I saw the box in your trash can—the fried chicken box.”
“Ha! That’s chicken I bought myself. What’s it to you?” the thief arrogantly retorted.
“Every takeout order should have a receipt with the delivery address, right?” I swiftly barged inside, grabbed the edge of the box, and pulled out the takeout bag.
The thief smiled even more smugly.
Because that bag had no receipt.
He knew the receipt would be evidence of his crime, so he burned it immediately.
“So now, what else do you have to say?” The thief crossed his arms by the door, arrogantly looking down on me. “In broad daylight, under the clear sky, you’re slandering a fellow student… I’m telling you, this isn’t over!”
This guy actually started yelling and playing the victim.
His shouts even drew students from the neighboring dorms, crowding around to watch.
“Look! This nosy girl barged in and accused me of stealing her stuff!” the thief shouted in grievance. “Come on, someone tell me if this is fair! They have no proof, just baseless accusations… who would stand for such slander?”
I pretended not to hear him, digging through the trash as if I was ignoring a sore loser.
Only after seeing the charred scraps of paper at the bottom of the trash did I finally relax.
It looked like he did burn the noon takeout receipt.
Good. I could be at ease.
I stood up and looked at the takeout on his desk, loaded with extra sauce.
“You’re not going to tell me the takeout on your desk is something you bought yourself too, right?” I asked.
The thief wouldn’t admit it was stolen. He confidently said, “Of course I bought it myself! What else could it be?”
“Are you sure it’s your own?” I pressed again. “Do you have proof?”
“I know what takeout I bought.”
“Then where’s the receipt?”
“Threw it out a long time ago!” The takeout thief said boldly. “That thing was hanging and swinging, annoying me. I tossed it at the school gate. With all this wind today, who knows where it blew off to.”
So… no proof at all?
“Are you sure, absolutely sure this is your own takeout? You didn’t take the wrong one?” In front of everyone, I asked again.
“I’m 100% sure because the receipt had my name on it. I wouldn’t mistake my own name.”
That put me even more at ease.
At first, I worried this guy might get suspicious. Turns out he was even more eager to confess.
So many people heard him say that; there was no way he could deny it later.
Just then, a police car pulled up at the school gate.
With sirens wailing, a man wrapped in bandages and covered in blood got out of the vehicle.
The security guard at the gate was about to stop them, but Stonefield-sensei immediately showed his badge:
“Law Enforcement Officer here to make an arrest! Our bureau just received intel that there’s drug trafficking on campus. Don’t delay our investigation.”
“Drug trafficking?!” The students nearby were dumbfounded.
Egg University, as a top-tier prestigious university and City Defense Center, was such a critical strategic location. Who dared be so brazen to traffic drugs here?!
Even trafficking a single pill here is “undermining city defense capabilities,” punishable by life imprisonment at minimum!
“Who is it?” teachers and students whispered anxiously.
Leading the Law Enforcement Officers, Stonefield-sensei stormed into the school.
Based on the exact address we just gave, he headed straight for the Azure Dragon Academy dorm building.
Click, click — the guns were loaded.
The officers quickly sealed all entrances to the dormitory, pounding up the stairs.
“Here! Over here!” I waved eagerly after seeing Stonefield-sensei.
The takeout thief was completely stunned.
What the hell? Sister, I just stole some takeout; is it really necessary for armed Law Enforcement Officers to show up?
“Where’s the poison?” Stonefield-sensei asked.
“In that box. I smelled something off back at the school gate, so I followed him here.”
Poison? What the hell?
The thief began to realize things weren’t looking good. Too bad it was already too late.
Stonefield-sensei yanked open the takeout box, pulling apart the bottom cooling bag filled with dry ice. The small ice cubes inside were immediately revealed.
He picked up a piece and sniffed. The scent was slightly sour and astringent… that familiar smell.
Stonefield-sensei immediately nodded to his team behind him.
“Don’t move!”
The thief was instantly pinned to the ground.
“This much,” Stonefield-sensei said in shock as he lifted the bag, “shooting you ten times wouldn’t be enough.”
The thief felt his worldview shatter.
Huh?? Stealing takeout is such a serious crime?!
“Are you sure this takeout was delivered to you?” Stonefield-sensei pressed.
He still found it hard to believe a promising Egg University student would involve himself with drugs, destroying his future.
“Yes! It’s mine! Absolutely, absolutely mine!” the thief shouted desperately, full of grievance. “Officer, please don’t arrest the wrong person! That’s my takeout! It was delivered to me!”
“Uh… if it’s yours, then no mistake was made.” Stonefield-sensei was seeing the most eager-to-confess suspect ever. He nearly forgot the proper procedure.
“Huh?” The thief was more confused. Why was it not a mistake if it was his?
“One kilogram of Frozen Poison. It’s been a long time since this amount appeared in Tianhai City.” Stonefield-sensei sealed the drugs in an evidence bag. “You better be honest about your supplier. Maybe you can trade it for life imprisonment.”
“Ah???”
The thief’s head buzzed, and he immediately wet his pants in terror.
“No! I didn’t! This… this isn’t my takeout!” he frantically denied.
If he hadn’t sworn so firmly before that the takeout was his, others might have believed him a little.
Too bad he acted so resolutely earlier.
Now nothing he says matters anymore~
