“Jiang Lai, Jiang… Can you not choose someone else…”
Chi Yingyu, in the midst of their embrace, quietly slipped off her own clothes, leaving only a thin layer of thermal underwear. Aside from the beautiful red off-shoulder dress on her, Jiang Lai had nothing else to cover herself.
“Yingyu, who would I even choose?”
Chi Yingyu buried herself tightly in Jiang Lai’s arms, clinging to her waist with both arms wrapped around.
“But you do… Lately, I just keep getting this feeling, like you might abandon me.”
Jiang Lai could feel the grip around her waist tightening even more, the palm burning hot, the heat seeping right through the fabric and into her skin.
This side of her little sister-in-law was completely unfamiliar. Jiang Lai couldn’t help but panic a little, her thoughts drifting back to the day her little sister-in-law had lost control in front of her. Even then, when she stripped off her thermal wear, her whole body had felt feverish and alarming.
Jiang Lai was almost dazed by the heat, her nerves frazzled just like that day.
Her mind couldn’t help but wander to the day when she’d nearly lost herself to her little sister-in-law. Though the situation then was eerily similar to now, today she was supposed to be comforting her injured little sister-in-law. How could she possibly let herself feel afraid?
With a nervous clench of her fists, Jiang Lai did not loosen her embrace. Instead, she held Chi Yingyu even tighter, gently soothing her.
“You will always be my dearest little sister-in-law, my family. No matter what happens, I will never abandon you. As long as you want… I will stay with you forever too.”
Within the gentle comfort of Jiang Lai’s words, Chi Yingyu paused, the frantic energy emanating from her subsiding. At the very least, it no longer felt dangerous.
“And what about Xu Ruobing… brother-in-law, just what is your relationship with her…”
Chi Yingyu had been tormented by this question for a while now. If she didn’t get an answer soon, she felt she’d lose her mind.
“Xu Ruobing? What could there possibly be between us? At most, we’re just friends.”
“Really just friends?”
Jiang Lai hadn’t expected her little sister-in-law to care about this. The moment Xu Ruobing was mentioned again, every excuse she had prepared felt like it stuck in her throat.
She didn’t answer. But in the silence, Chi Yingyu already received her answer. If her brother-in-law and Xu Ruobing’s relationship was always one-sided, with Xu Ruobing as the only one infatuated, then it wouldn’t have mattered much.
But if her brother-in-law could have just said firmly that they were only friends, then Xu Ruobing would only ever be an annoying troublemaker.
It was that slight hesitation just now—Chi Yingyu realized the truth. Their relationship had already gone far beyond what she could have imagined.
“So there really is something between you two, isn’t there?”
Chi Yingyu exhaled, closed her eyes to steel herself, then reached out and slowly unzipped the back of Jiang Lai’s dress.
Jiang Lai didn’t know what had gone wrong with her previous answer. She’d said they were friends—so why had that made things worse?
Was it her momentary hesitation?
Chi Yingyu was so important to her. Her little sister-in-law held the same place in Jiang Lai’s heart as her own daughter. She really didn’t want to lie to her. Her little sister-in-law was the only one she could confide in now. There were so many things Jiang Lai could only tell her.
“I don’t know how to explain this to you. But I promise, there’s nothing going on between Xu Ruobing and me… If you want to know more, I can explain it to you slowly.”
Jiang Lai didn’t even understand why she felt the need to explain her relationships to her little sister-in-law. It was as if she were a cheating husband, caught red-handed in the car by his wife.
But what kind of role did her little sister-in-law want her to play?
Feeling the warmth of the body pressed against hers, Jiang Lai could only awkwardly try to soothe her, hoping she would calm down.
But after a long moment of silence between them, what finally arrived was a kiss from her little sister-in-law.
A kiss she couldn’t refuse. Jiang Lai felt her lower lip pried open, her little sister-in-law’s tongue invading, and though her mind resisted with all its strength, she couldn’t bear to bite back. If she used even a bit of force, Chi Yingyu’s tongue would bleed.
Just as Jiang Lai was still wavering about how to refuse, her little sister-in-law suddenly stopped on her own.
“Brother-in-law, can you not leave with someone else? Can you just stay with us, please?”
Chi Yingyu started to act shameless. If she couldn’t keep Jiang Lai by herself, she wouldn’t mind dragging in Jiang Leyi too, even if it was despicable. She was just so afraid she didn’t matter enough to her brother-in-law.
This desperate, insecure feeling left Chi Yingyu utterly miserable. Biting her lip, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, so much that they even slipped into her mouth. Through teary eyes, she looked at her brother-in-law.
Jiang Lai, who had just been forcibly kissed, let her beautiful hair tumble down like a waterfall, long and straight, as gentle and soft as she was.
At this moment, Jiang Lai still hadn’t managed to collect her scattered thoughts. But when she saw the tears on her little sister-in-law’s face—
All other concerns vanished. She didn’t even bother to pull her dress back up. Instead, she cupped Chi Yingyu’s face in her hands, gently brushing away the glistening tears with her fingertips.
Her expression didn’t change because of the kiss; she still gazed at Chi Yingyu with the same gentle, doting eyes.
Chi Yingyu melted in this tenderness, clinging to Jiang Lai and sobbing softly. Jiang Lai had no idea how to comfort her little sister-in-law, so all she could do was let her cry it out.
Luckily, it was already quite late. The Underground Garage was so silent you couldn’t hear a sound. At least this afforded Jiang Lai some privacy.
After all, her dress had been ruthlessly unzipped by her own little sister-in-law. Even now, she hadn’t managed to put it back on. The beautiful off-shoulder gown had slipped nearly to her waist, exposing a peach-pink flush, utterly unreserved, to Chi Yingyu.
