“What are you watching?”
Gou Yu asked Zhu Niao, who was curled up in his arms.
“Just scrolling through some pointless short videos, and then I’m moving some trash posts into the dorm group chat,” Zhu Niao said as her fingers gently swiped across the screen, sending yet another video to the group.
But today something felt off. Even though she had sent plenty of disgusting videos one after another, no one in the group chat had jumped out to scold her.
Too strange.
Not far away on the dressing table sat an empty wonton bowl.
Gou Yu obviously knew that Zhu Niao hadn’t eaten, given her current physical condition. Though she appeared fine now, he guessed she must have been starving earlier.
So he splurged on ordering takeout, leaving his already scant wallet completely empty.
Fortunately, Zhu Niao’s appetite wasn’t great at the moment; after a few bites, she handed the rest over to him, which he devoured without hesitation.
And after insisting on feeding “Little Bird,” her slightly flushed cheeks, evasive gaze, and hesitant but obedient movements were, for him, the perfect meal.
Right now, Zhu Niao nestled comfortably in his embrace, and the two of them quietly enjoyed a moment of peace meant just for them.
Zhu Niao played on her phone while Gou Yu played with her.
He toyed with her hair, grabbed the little orange cat beside them and made it “attack” Zhu Niao, and pulled her shoulder strap up only to flick it back down again.
Okay, he was definitely being a little annoying.
But Zhu Niao didn’t mind. It was as if she regarded all of Gou Yu’s antics so far as his way of helping her.
Whenever she came across a funny video, she’d hold her phone a little higher so that Gou Yu, holding her, could see it too.
Of course, while one of Gou Yu’s hands was causing mischief, the other stayed wrapped around Zhu Niao’s waist.
He knew her stomach was hurting, so his palm gently covered her lower belly, softly kneading.
It seemed like he was trying to ease the sharp, cramping pain she was experiencing by doing this.
At first, Zhu Niao’s body twitched, as if she wanted to push his hand away, but the moment her skin touched his palm, she retracted and surrendered, letting him comfort her.
Now, there was no discomfort or awkwardness—only the simple act of leaning against Gou Yu’s chest.
Plain and peaceful, like an old married couple.
“It’s already afternoon,” Zhu Niao glanced at the time and suddenly felt a pang of sentiment.
“What’s up? Do you have something this afternoon?” Gou Yu’s voice carried a hint of hesitation.
Zhu Niao turned her head slightly, catching a glimpse of Gou Yu chewing on something.
The shape and smell were very familiar.
It was a dried fish treat from the little orange cat’s food bowl, now stuffed in Gou Yu’s mouth.
It made sense—there was no way half a bowl of wonton would fill someone like Gou Yu.
Zhu Niao didn’t have the heart to mock him. Usually, she would have taken a few photos to defend the little orange cat’s honor.
But this situation was of her own making.
“I think there should still be some snacks in my snack box,” Zhu Niao said.
“Huh? It’s fine, I’m happy with this,” Gou Yu admitted he was just craving a snack. “Keep your snacks for yourself, but don’t eat anything cold or spicy. If you want something, just tell me—I’ll bring it back for you.”
Even at a time like this, he didn’t want to touch her things to avoid getting hungry himself?
How had she never noticed this before?
Zhu Niao felt even more guilty.
“Wait, I’m getting a call,” Zhu Niao said, looking at the incoming call from a dormmate, interrupting Gou Yu’s words that made her guilt grow heavier.
Normally, if the call was from a classmate or a dormmate before the holiday ended, it would be a perfect chance to borrow some homework.
But now, as a university student who hadn’t even figured out where the classrooms were after a whole semester, there was no way they could do something like that.
Especially since it was Liu Xie with the yellow hair calling.
“Hello, Er’er, what’s up?” Zhu Niao’s tone unexpectedly carried a bit of impatience, as if Liu Xie’s sudden call was disturbing something important.
But Liu Xie’s voice came weakly on the other end, catching Zhu Niao off guard.
“Little Bird, help me, I feel like I’m dying.”
That sentence sounded strangely familiar.
“What’s going on over there?” Zhu Niao propped herself up slightly, and Gou Yu retracted his hand from her stomach.
It still smelled nice—felt a little perverse, but fortunately, Zhu Niao hadn’t seen it.
“I’m fine now, the jungler came to help,” Liu Xie replied.
Zhu Niao was momentarily stunned, then laughed angrily, about to hang up.
“Hey, Little Bird, don’t hang up yet,” Liu Xie quickly stopped her. “I really have something serious.”
“If you can’t say what it is, I’m going to hide your mom,” Zhu Niao deadpanned, threatening Liu Xie’s parents.
After a moment, Liu Xie’s hesitant voice came through the phone: “Uh, um, do you happen to have any sanitary pads?”
Zhu Niao turned to look at Gou Yu, and a ridiculous guess popped into her head.
“Uh, Er’er, you didn’t also start your period, did you?” Zhu Niao asked.
If their menstrual cycles really coincided on the same day, that would be a remarkable coincidence.
Or maybe some twisted joke by that trainee goddess?
It had already been two months since she became a girl, and Zhu Niao had completely let her guard down regarding periods—only to be caught off guard by one now.
In retrospect, maybe the first month was a newbie protection period.
That trainee goddess was surprisingly considerate.
“Red?” Liu Xie sounded confused. “The jungler made me eat it—I didn’t steal anything.”
“You’ve already lost one mother, and if you don’t start talking, your father won’t escape a catastrophe either.”
Legendary hunter Little Bird at your service.
“Uh, I did start my period. I slept until noon and realized no one was in the dorm, so I started a game, but then I felt like I lost control of my bladder. When I lifted the quilt, it was red.”
“So you realized…” Zhu Niao was beginning to piece it together.
“So I looked it up online and saw that blood in urine might mean kidney trouble. Little Bird, please hurry and bring me two packs of sanitary pads so I can pretend it’s just my period.”
Liu Xie urged, her tone carrying a reckless confusion.
I do heard some girls can apparently times their period at the same time as their friends, I guess that’s the case with these four here
