“What’s going on?! Why are there so many fairies flying around the mansion?”
Misha stormed out of the basement in frustration.
She had just been conducting experiments downstairs when suddenly a swarm of fairies appeared out of nowhere, and their numbers kept growing until the research institute was almost being overtaken by nests built by the fairies.
Following the direction from which the fairies had entered, she looked toward the backyard of the estate.
Covering her eyes to prevent the glowing powder from the fairies from getting in, she cautiously stepped toward the backyard, fearing that one might crash straight into her face.
“Ah, Misha!”
Azalea’s voice came from ahead. Misha slightly parted her fingers and saw the four of them, who seemed to be doing something unknown.
“Eve, look! The sky is full of fairies. I’ve never seen so many fairies together in my life!”
“Same here… but I don’t think now is the time to be admiring them, Saga.”
Outside the courtyard, the fairies were as numerous as autumn leaves.
They fluttered with the wind all over the courtyard, and some curious ones had even entered the mansion’s interior. The strange thing was that not a single fairy had flown beyond the courtyard walls; they all obediently stayed within the estate’s boundaries.
These newborn fairies seemed curious about everything, wanting to touch things with their tiny hands and nibble on them with their sharp teeth, all while making soft ‘umdah umdah’ sounds as they bit.
“So, what exactly is going on? How did you four manage to produce so many fairies?”
No sooner had Misha lowered her hand from her eyes than a fairy launched itself at her face in a big bear hug.
“You little brat… those are my hair, don’t bite! Get off me!”
“Umdah~”
With her vision blocked, she grabbed at the fairy on her face and tried to pull it off, but it clung to her surprisingly tightly. Given Misha’s long-neglected physical strength, it was futile.
“Hahaha, it seems to really like you, Misha,” Azalea teased.
“I don’t want this noisy little thing to like me!”
Since she couldn’t get it off, she let the fairy stay clinging to her face. Hands on her hips, she faced the direction of Azalea’s voice and said, “So, who’s going to explain what’s going on?”
“Well, actually…”
Aurora recounted the entire situation from the beginning, but in truth, they didn’t really understand why so many fairies had appeared inside this herb.
It had clearly been just a seed before it started growing.
“So, you’re saying these fairies appeared in the plant for no reason?”
The birth of fairies requires planting by the Fairy Queen; plants not sown by her wouldn’t have any fairies at all, let alone this many all at once.
“The Fairy Queen…”
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and asked Aurora, “What about your familiar?”
“It’s still sleeping.”
Aurora gently took out the familiar she’d kept in her pocket.
“It woke once this morning; I fed it some nectar, and then it went back to sleep.”
“Let me see it.”
Carefully passed over to her, Misha examined the tiny fairy up and down.
Her gaze suddenly fixed on something. She reached out her index finger and gently parted its wings.
Underneath the wings was an unusual, glowing pattern resembling a floral crown.
“As I thought… this fairy is a Queen’s Seed.”
“Queen’s Seed… what’s that?” Aurora asked, puzzled.
It sounded impressive.
“A Queen’s Seed is a fairy hatchling that can grow into a Fairy Queen. The chance of one appearing is about one in a hundred thousand.”
“That impressive?!” Azalea exclaimed.
She looked incredulously at the tiny pink creature in Misha’s hand and reached out to poke it.
‘Thud.’
“Ouch! What was that?”
Something suddenly hit her on the head. She held her head and saw a small fruit roll to the ground.
Just as she looked up to see who had thrown it, she noticed that the fairies in the sky were each clutching some kind of object and throwing them at everyone except Aurora.
“Hey! Throwing things at people is not okay, don’t you know that?”
She shook her fists and scolded the countless fairies, but it seemed to only intensify their attacks.
In an instant, it felt like a scattered ‘rain’ was falling from the sky, forcing the group to cover their heads and dodge wildly.
“What’s happening?”
Misha seemed to realize something. She hurried over to Aurora and handed the fairy back to her.
After a short while, the attack ceased, and the fairies returned to playing by themselves.
“I think I understand the reason…”
She rubbed her aching head and continued, “These fairies were all sown by it, so they probably see it as their Fairy Queen.”
“They’re attacking to protect their Fairy Queen.”
“Then why is Miss Aurora safe?”
“I think it’s because they also recognize their Fairy Queen’s master as one of their own.”
“Do I really look that much like a fairy…”
Watching the fairies fluttering all around, Aurora felt a headache coming on. “So what should we do with them…”
“They will obey the Fairy Queen’s orders. Maybe if your familiar commands them, they will calm down.”
Though she said that, her fairy had been sleeping for days on end, only waking occasionally to eat nectar before curling up and going back to sleep.
She gently shook the little fairy in her palm but saw no sign of it waking.
The mansion was already a mess from the fairies. Even the Silver Gradient Flowers in the garden had been uprooted by them.
“Those were the flowers I’d carefully tended for days! They were finally about to bloom…”
She could no longer hold back and shouted angrily at the fairies in the sky, “Seriously, can you all just behave for once?!”
“……”
With that rebuke, the fairies instantly stopped moving.
They put down what they were holding, lined up in rows, and flew over to Aurora’s side.
Seeing the suddenly obedient fairies, Aurora was momentarily stunned.
“They actually listen to you, Eve!” Saga exclaimed.
Not wanting to provoke the fairies into more chaos, she quietly stepped around the rows of fairies and whispered to Aurora, “For now, just keep them in one place and don’t let them run around.”
With a hopeful heart, Aurora spoke, “You’ll stay here in this courtyard. Don’t go into the house or outside the walls, and don’t touch anything without permission. Understand?”
“Umdah~~” the fairies all shouted in unison.
The fairy in her palm suddenly twitched.
Aurora’s heart lifted, and she hurried to look at the little fairy in her hand…
“Huh?”
“What is it?” Azalea leaned in to look, and what she saw was unbelievable.
Their fairy was actually growing bigger and bigger!
