Chapter 12: The Twelfth Step to Becoming the Matchmaker: Beware of Rival Matchmakers  

“Savior?”  

Leng Yiqing shook her head, feeling some emotion slipping away from her heart.  

Seeing the change in Chang Fei’s expression, she suddenly felt a weight lift off her shoulders.  

The lingering unease she couldn’t shake around him faded, and a smile crept onto her face.  

As a Matchmaker God, Chang Fei, now wielding the Universal Matchmaker Scissors, cut the red string tying him to Leng Yiqing when their bond fell below 10%.  

This was for both her future and his own responsibility.  

Seeing her smile, Chang Fei scratched his cheek and grinned.  

“Shaxue, if there’s nothing else, you should go. I’ll handle this guy.”  

“How can I just leave…” Leng Yiqing felt awkward.  

After all, she was partly responsible for Kading Che’s current state.  

Leaving him like this didn’t sit right with her.  

Kading Che, sweating profusely, thought, Handle? 

Like, kill me to silence me? 

No way! 

I just wanted to see his golden right hand. 

Is that a death sentence? 

Wait, there’s been a serial killer targeting lone young men lately… could it be…  

Chang Fei didn’t give them time to overthink.  

Grabbing Kading Che, he waved at Leng Yiqing with a smile.  

“This is a guy’s job, right? A girl like you walking with another boy—what if your boyfriend misunderstands? Don’t worry, I’ve got this. As for you and Lezheng Chu… if you still want that, I’ll figure something out.”  

“Oh… really? Wait, Savior!”  

Leng Yiqing’s mind flashed to another boy’s cold face, her cheeks flushing.  

But seeing Chang Fei turn to leave, she hurriedly called out.  

She couldn’t understand his rush.  

Weren’t they at least friends?  

Why did he seem so eager to go?  

She felt she should explain something but didn’t know what.  

In her hesitation, Chang Fei was already ten meters away.  

She opened her mouth to shout, but someone blocked her path…  

“Hey, can you not drag me so fast? Even if you’re killing me, no need to rush!”  

Kading Che, seeing the increasingly remote path, yanked his hand free.  

“Why would I kill you?” Chang Fei asked, bewildered.  

“Aren’t you trying to silence me for seeing your golden right hand?”  

“I’d need a weapon for that, wouldn’t I?!”  

“Oh… true… you don’t have…”  

Kading Che’s gaze drifted to Chang Fei’s chest, only to get punched in the face, collapsing to the ground.  

“I told you I’m a boy! Where are you looking? Want to die?”  

Chang Fei cracked his knuckles.  

This guy was so rude.  

If he were really a girl, he’d have torn him to pieces.  

Seeing Kading Che get so close to Leng Yiqing made his hands itch to chop off the parts that touched her and pickle them in wine.  

Rubbing his cheek, Kading Che gave a wry smile.  

“Can you stop hitting people so casually? They say hitting is affection, scolding is love—keep this up, and I’ll think you’re sweet on me.”  

“You’re the most shameless person I’ve ever met.”  

Crouching, Chang Fei eyed Kading Che, recalling how he acted around Leng Yiqing.  

Glancing at his left pinky, he clicked his tongue.  

“You’ve got a girl you like, right? Why go hugging and kissing every pretty girl you see?”  

“Hugging and kissing?” Kading Che looked innocent.  

“What are you talking about? I didn’t do that to you. And even if I were to die, I wouldn’t hug or kiss a guy—gross!”  

“Shaxue’s not a guy. She’s a girl. Didn’t you crash into her and kiss her forehead? You made it bleed.”  

Chang Fei fumed, recounting Kading Che’s “crimes.”  

Just thinking he’d never get such a chance with a girl made his hands itch again.  

Kading Che was speechless, pointing at his swollen mouth.  

“How does that count as hugging and kissing? It’s enough to shatter anyone’s romantic dreams!”  

“My romantic dreams are already shattered.”  

“Oh… sorry, I didn’t realize it was that bad…”  

“No worries, your teeth got knocked out anyway.”  

Chang Fei smirked gleefully.  

Hearing this, Kading Che’s face clouded, and he sighed repeatedly.  

“She must be furious… Explaining this is so embarrassing…”  

Covering his cheeks, he let out another dejected sigh.  

Chang Fei didn’t know the full story but, seeing him like this, felt less smug.  

Curious, he asked, “Looking like that, are you meeting someone for a date?”  

Eyeing Kading Che’s outfit, he shook his head.  

Kading Che wore something akin to a school uniform—hardly date material, more like he was headed to a library.  

At the question, Kading Che blushed, grinning cheekily.  

“I’m meeting a girl at the library to read. What? Suddenly curious about me? I’ll say it now—I don’t like guys.”  

Chang Fei smirked.  

“If I were a girl, I wouldn’t chase a tasteless, humorless nerd like you. Girls go for guys like me.”  

Kading Che paused, thinking this shorty’s personality was oddly similar to his.  

Kindred spirits?  

He laughed.  

“My outfit’s fine for the library. But you, with that face, your love life’s gonna be rough. I bet if your girlfriend isn’t prettier than you, she’ll dump you!”  

“Thanks for the jinx!” Chang Fei snapped.  

“My kindness gets treated like garbage! Fine, I’ll watch you get dumped!”  

Kading Che scratched his head, suddenly worried.  

“Don’t jinx me! I’m already nervous, not even sure if she likes me…”  

“Confirmed the relationship yet?”  

Chang Fei slapped his shoulder, adopting a conspiratorial tone.  

“So? How far along are you? Spill to your bro—I’ll be your advisor. Maybe I’ll help you make big progress.”  

“You?” Kading Che scoffed but couldn’t resist sharing.  

“We haven’t confirmed anything, but I’ve been chasing her, hoping she’ll say yes…”  

“Oh~” Chang Fei grinned slyly, thinking of the booklet’s mention of Leng Yin’ning, the Leng family’s illegitimate daughter.  

Before he could speak, giggles rang out.  

“Is that the guy? The stinky Taoist who caused a ruckus in the underworld 500 years ago to take his wife?”  

“A monk looking for a wife? Tsk, no wonder he’s unlucky in this life!”  

“Shh, didn’t Red Sister say this task is to re-tie the red string between this Taoist and Gluttony Sister?”  

“Don’t call her Gluttony Sister—she’s reincarnated. Let me check… right, this life she’s Feng Qinyue, 19 years old.”  

“Wait, I heard this Taoist has another fated match in this life. Should we sabotage it?”

“Not important. What’s her name?” Chang Fei asked with a forced smile, more worried about something else.  

Please, not what he’s thinking.  

Kading Che sighed.  

“Leng Yin’ning. I was supposed to meet her, but then I saw your golden right hand.”  

“Don’t call it a golden right hand—it’s a gauntlet!” Chang Fei corrected, relieved.  

Thankfully, Kading Che’s crush matched the booklet’s target.  

Kading Che didn’t know what a Matchmaker God worried about.  

Caught up in his own thoughts of revenge, he grinned at Chang Fei’s correction.  

“It’s the same thing, isn’t it?”  

Chang Fei fell silent, itching to punch him, but Kading Che caught his hands.  

“Punk, think the same trick works twice? Heh, I knew you’d try again, you hotheaded kid…”  

“Kading Car, shouldn’t you be meeting your girlfriend? Is that sausage mouth okay? Not worried it looks bad?”  

Their hands locked in a struggle, both wearing innocent smiles, just short of a friendly embrace.  

Chang Fei kept mocking, but his ears perked up.  

Heh, did he just overhear some weirdos talking about matchmaking?  

Something about a third party?  

Past-life bonds have nothing to do with this life!  

Reuniting past-life lovers?  

That’s setting him up to fail as a Matchmaker!  

No way!  

Even if Kading Che’s crush wasn’t Leng Yin’ning, Chang Fei would’ve made sure he liked her, even if it felt a bit shady.  

Anyone blocking his Matchmaker points would face his wrath!
