“Mmm… I slept so well.”
The early morning air blew into the room from the window, carrying the scent of sunlight. Ye Xingyao opened his eyes, sat up in bed, and stared blankly at a random spot.
‘Waking up naturally like this must be the gentlest gift from heaven.’
He pushed the quilt off his body and changed into a prepared T-shirt and trousers—a clean, sharp outfit in all black.
Today was the day he was going out to have fun with Yi Shiyue! He was brimming with confidence regarding the outfit he had meticulously prepared.
Walking to the washstand, Ye Xingyao looked at the clean-cut, reserved youth in the mirror. He fixed his hair while calculating how to spend the day.
“Oh? Morning, Brother… *yawn*…”
On the other side, Ye Xingling walked out of her room, her fair legs exposed beneath an oversized white shirt. The fabric creased slightly over her chest. She squinted her beautiful sky-blue eyes—inherited from their mother, just like her brother’s—as she let out a yawn, looking like she hadn’t fully woken up yet.
Then, her gaze landed on Ye Xingyao. She paused for a moment before speaking tentatively.
“Brother, are you… wearing that to your date with Sister Shiyue today?”
“What’s wrong with it? I think it looks fine.”
Ye Xingyao looked back at his sister, confused by her subtle, judging expression.
“Brother, I’m starting to doubt if you even know what you’re about to do…”
“I know. I’m going out with Shiyue.”
“You know a… Ugh! I’m asking you what this is called!”
Ye Xingling’s voice suddenly rose significantly.
“Why are you so loud all of a sudden… What is it called?”
“A date! A date! Do you know what a date is!”
Ye Xingling looked like she was frustrated that he wasn’t living up to her expectations. She poked her index finger against her brother’s forehead over and over.
“How is Sister Shiyue supposed to feel anything for you if you’re dressed like that!”
Ye Xingyao shrunk back like a child who had done something wrong. Then, he thought about it and explained with a hint of grievance.
“I only have a few sets of clothes. If I wore that Zhongshan Suit, wouldn’t it make me look too old?”
Honestly, the clothes Ye Xingyao had prepared for himself were just casual wear. In terms of quality, they weren’t even as good as the clothes he wore when he was “Ye Xin.”
He didn’t have much of a fashion sense to begin with. When he was Ye Xin, he needed to maintain a disguise, so since he didn’t know how to dress himself, he could only buy expensive, pre-matched sets. Those were all kept in his safehouses. When he was being himself, he naturally chose to wear whatever was comfortable!
“Tsk, true… but I’m being serious about what I said…”
Ye Xingling also began to feel troubled. She looked her brother up and down, shook her head, and messy-matted her already unbrushed hair.
“Let’s put all that aside for a moment. Ye Xingling, can you please put on some pants when you come out?”
“What does it matter? Could it be that you, Brother, harbor some ‘extra’ feelings for your cute little sister?”
Ye Xingling pouted and squeezed Ye Xingyao away from the washstand, turning on the faucet to start washing up.
Ye Xingyao suppressed the urge to give his sister a chop to the head. He went back to his room to grab his phone, expressionlessly glanced at a message on the screen, marked it as “read,” and then turned to open his front door. He walked across the hall and knocked on the opposite door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me, Xingyao. Do you want to go get breakfast in a bit?”
The sound of slippers pattering against the floor drew closer. With a click, his childhood friend with black hair and black eyes peeked out from behind the door and smiled at him.
“Just a moment.”
“Usually you’re ready by now. Did you oversleep?”
“No… I just wanted to prepare a bit more.”
Yi Shiyue’s face flushed slightly as she shrunk back behind the door and gently closed it.
“Clueless Brother, look at her!”
The voice of a certain idiot sister came from behind him, accompanied by a finger poking his waist.
“What am I supposed to do? Should I put on makeup or something?”
Ye Xingyao shouted helplessly at his sister, who had finished washing up, changed her clothes, and walked up behind him.
“Makeup would actually be a disadvantage for Xingyao~”
The door in front of him opened, and a familiar voice drifted out.
“It’s not good for you to spoil him so much, Sister Shiyue!”
Ye Xingling puffed out her cheeks like an angry pufferfish.
“It’s not spoiling him. Xingyao looks natural and sunny without it. Good morning, Xingyao, Xingling.”
Ye Xingyao was momentarily dazed. The young girl waved her slender hand and smiled at the siblings.
She wore a pure white uniform paired with a grey-and-white plaid pleated skirt. Her long black hair fell naturally over her back, and a pink butterfly clip was pinned in her hair above her forehead, making her look full of vitality.
Her chest rose in a healthy curve, and her beautiful legs were wrapped in white silk stockings. If one looked closely, a hint of skin tone peeked through, adding a touch of allure. She wore a pair of short boots. Seeing that Ye Xingyao remained silent, she walked up to him and waved her hand in front of his face.
“Xingyao? It’s time for breakfast.”
“Tsk, tsk. My idiot brother is completely mesmerized. Sister Shiyue, look! This brother of mine is going out on a date with you and he’s still dressed so casually! Hurry up and scold him!”
“Well, Xingyao doesn’t have many clothes to begin with.”
Ye Xingyao flashed a grateful smile at Yi Shiyue. To have a childhood friend who was gentle, beautiful, and understanding—he must be one of the luckiest people in the world.
Unfortunately, there were still annoying people trying to disturb their peaceful life.
At that thought, Ye Xingyao secretly clenched his fists.
“Stupid sister, look at how understanding Shiyue is. Let’s go. Are we still eating at Aunt Wang’s place today?”
“Hmph, go ahead and keep pampering him, Sister Shiyue! Yes, I want one extra tea egg today!”
***
“Oh, it’s the two from the Ye Family and Shiyue. Is it the usual? Four buns, three tea eggs, and three portions of soy milk?”
The lady running the breakfast stall greeted them warmly. After all, she had practically watched the three of them grow up, and they often came here for breakfast together after starting school.
“Let’s have one more tea egg.”
“Got it! You kids go in and sit down. I’ll bring it over in a bit.”
“Thanks, Aunt Wang!”
Entering the shop, Ye Xingyao and Yi Shiyue sat side by side, while Ye Xingling sat opposite them, seemingly hesitating to say something.
“It’s been so long, but Aunt Wang’s place hasn’t changed much…”
With Magic and Superpowers existing, and humans needing to face magical beasts, technology had developed rapidly. In the blink of five or six years, the city’s scenery had changed a lot. Thinking of this, Ye Xingyao felt a wave of emotion.
“Haha, I like to keep some things for the sake of memories. Xingyao, how come you’re starting to sound like us old folks?”
Aunt Wang walked to their table carrying several plates. She arranged them one by one, then looked at Yi Shiyue and Ye Xingyao, teasing them.
“Shiyue, why are you dressed so beautifully? Are you going on a date with Xingyao?”
Hearing this, Yi Shiyue’s face turned slightly red as she glanced at Ye Xingyao beside her. She muttered, “Aunt Wang, please don’t tease me…”
“Sorry, sorry, I talked too much. But Xingyao is a good boy; you should hold on tight.”
“Aunt Wang!”
“Hahaha, I won’t disturb the young people then…”
