As Spring Break approached, the work that Chi Yingyu had to handle became increasingly tedious.
Being able to get home by nine o’clock like today was already considered relatively early.
A few days ago, she hadn’t even returned until after midnight.
Once this busy period was over, Chi Yingyu only thought about clinging to her brother-in-law to recharge the energy she had lost during this time.
A couple of days back, Chi Yingyu had come home so late that by the time she finished eating and quickly washed up, it was already two in the morning.
At that hour, Jiang Lai was long asleep.
Every time Chi Yingyu came home late, she would just crack the bedroom door open a little and, borrowing the light from the living room, look at Jiang Lai peacefully sleeping inside.
Just a simple glance was enough to wash away more than half of the day’s accumulated fatigue.
But today, since she arrived early and Jiang Lai wasn’t asleep yet, Chi Yingyu couldn’t help but develop some clingy thoughts in her heart.
She walked to the bedroom door and reached out to grab the doorknob, only to find that the door, which had always been freely accessible, was now locked from the inside.
What’s going on?
What on earth was her brother-in-law doing in the bedroom…?
Although Chi Yingyu had the key to the bedroom, she hesitated.
If Jiang Lai was really busy with something private, would it be too intrusive to open the door without warning?
After a moment’s hesitation, she gently knocked on the door. “Brother-in-law, I’m home. What are you doing now?”
Still, there was no response from inside the room.
One second, two seconds, ten seconds passed, but there was no movement, as if the person inside hadn’t heard her at all.
Chi Yingyu’s curiosity grew even stronger.
She wondered what her brother-in-law was doing that made him so focused he didn’t even notice the knock.
Since she had already called out, it wouldn’t be offensive to use the key and open the door now.
She took the bedroom key and unlocked the door.
With a creak, the door opened just a crack, and the bright light from the room poured out, sharply contrasting the warm-colored lighting of the bedroom.
Jiang Lai, who had been fully immersed in a video, was startled.
Suddenly realizing something, Jiang Lai hurriedly closed the laptop she was using for the video call and turned toward the bedroom door.
Her reaction was so swift that the first thing Chi Yingyu saw upon opening the door was Jiang Lai sitting upright in the chair, obediently waiting for her.
She was wearing noise-canceling headphones on her head, which explained why she hadn’t heard the knock.
“Why are you wearing headphones in the bedroom?”
Chi Yingyu didn’t enter the room but leaned against the doorframe, watching her brother-in-law sitting rigidly in the chair, looking awkward and uneasy, and gave a helpless smile.
Although she didn’t see exactly what Jiang Lai was doing, seeing her flustered expression made it clear she had just done something she didn’t want Chi Yingyu to know about.
“Because if I don’t wear them, it might be noisy…”
Seeing that Jiang Lai wasn’t about to explain the truth, Chi Yingyu walked over and pulled a chair from the other side of the room to sit beside her.
“What is it that requires such undivided attention?”
Chi Yingyu gently pinched Jiang Lai’s slender wrist and pulled her into her arms.
Only then did Chi Yingyu feel how different her brother-in-law was from usual.
Jiang Lai’s entire body was soft and limp, like a ragdoll melting in her arms.
If it weren’t for Chi Yingyu’s hands firmly supporting her waist, Jiang Lai would probably have collapsed completely.
Jiang Lai lightly placed her hand on Chi Yingyu’s shoulder, trying to hold herself up, but she felt utterly powerless.
At this moment, her mind was a complete mess.
Although she was being held by her sister-in-law, her heart was entirely elsewhere — her spirit and body perfectly separated.
In her mind, Jiang Lai was still imagining Xu Ruobing’s face.
Xu Ruobing was like a snow lotus blooming on a mountaintop, untouched by wind, frost, or snowstorms, yet whenever she spoke to Jiang Lai, her voice was filled with subtle coaxing.
Chi Yingyu gazed into Jiang Lai’s alluring, moist eyes; her long eyelashes trembled lightly, and her lips flushed a delicate red.
Her usually cool and reserved features were suddenly stained with the dew of desire, making her irresistibly enchanting.
Chi Yingyu formed a rough guess as to what her brother-in-law had been doing to end up like this.
Could it be that Jiang Lai had been under a lot of work pressure lately and was secretly locking himself in the bedroom watching inappropriate content?
Why bother struggling with his desires alone?
He could just send her a message.
Being a perfect pillow princess would be so much easier.
And the computer that had suddenly been shut—surely it was playing something indecent, right?
Chi Yingyu felt as if she had figured it all out, acting as if everything was under her control.
First, she took off the headphones from Jiang Lai’s head, then reached out and reopened the laptop that had just been closed.
Her speed was so fast that Jiang Lai didn’t even have time to stop her, only wide-eyed as she watched Chi Yingyu expose her hidden secret.
Chi Yingyu expected to see something inappropriate on the screen, but what appeared was someone she really didn’t want to see.
In the video was Xu Ruobing.
Though her face still showed a slight flush, she looked completely different from the enchanting succubus Jiang Lai had just witnessed.
Xu Ruobing had returned to her usual refined and aloof demeanor, unassuming, with thin lips pursed slightly and a distant chill in her eyes.
Even Jiang Lai hadn’t expected such a drastic change from Xu Ruobing.
She had been so affected by Xu Ruobing’s straightforward and explicit words that her heart was numb and her body weak, almost unable to stay seated in her sister-in-law’s arms.
At this moment, Jiang Lai finally understood just how terrible it was to ignite a fire but refuse to put it out.
The video had gone black just as Jiang Lai sensed something was off.
Xu Ruobing quickly composed herself, restoring her usual appearance just as she had anticipated.
And then, Chi Yingyu appeared on the screen.
Xu Ruobing secretly wished she could have seen Jiang Lai’s fragile and stirred expression from earlier, but she wouldn’t let anyone else see that side of her.
She thought of this just to feel a little superior.
“Sis, good evening!”
The laptop’s audio was still connected to the headphones on Jiang Lai’s neck, so Chi Yingyu couldn’t hear what Xu Ruobing was saying, but she could tell from her lips that Xu Ruobing was greeting her.
Normally, greeting someone when meeting was polite.
But to Chi Yingyu, this felt like a provocation.
