Monice punched her palm. Got it—this time she really had a plan!
A broad, clear path suddenly appeared before her!
“That’s right, that’s right. If that’s the case, maybe we can actually pull this off…” Like a lion grabbing its prey, Monice yanked Luo Shuangyue’s arm with brute force and dragged her outside the laboratory.
“Eh?” Luo Shuangyue hadn’t even processed what was happening before Monice dragged her out.
Pulling and tugging, they made their way outside the Magic Department.
With a single leap, Monice took off, carrying Luo Shuangyue toward the Eternal Night Headquarters. It only took half a minute to arrive.
That speed—Monice was basically pushing her limits for close-range combat travel.
Once back at Eternal Night Headquarters, Monice barreled into her lab with Luo Shuangyue in tow, grabbing all sorts of ominous Demon limbs from specialized preservation containers.
Then, she treated Luo Shuangyue like a humanoid magic supply terminal, making her wash various items with her magic power.
They kept at it until dusk, and when Luo Shuangyue’s magic was almost depleted, Monice finally gave her a break.
As for the results of the cleansing… judging by Monice’s excited expression, it was promising.
Luo Shuangyue wanted to ask more, but Monice completely ignored her, lost in her own world, unwilling to engage with anything else.
If Luo Shuangyue interrupted loudly, she was certain Monice would fly into a rage, so she wisely kept quiet.
Tiptoeing carefully away from the lab, Luo Shuangyue’s eyes caught a black cat sneaking around the wall, spying on the lab.
“What are you peeking at?”
“I heard Monice-dono rushed into the lab with Lord Dark Moth, so I got curious and came to see,” Jiu Ye scratched her head sheepishly and whispered.
Cats were naturally curious creatures after all.
“So, Monice-dono was in such a hurry—did she discover something?” Jiu Ye’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
“It’s hard to say for sure, but judging by her behavior, maybe this time there really is some progress.” Luo Shuangyue led Jiu Ye away from the lab and spoke in a normal voice.
Jiu Ye’s reaction made Luo Shuangyue glad she had kept her quiet.
“Eh! Really? That’s great!” Jiu Ye exclaimed loudly.
Her voice was so loud it drew curious looks from passing Eternal Night members.
“Shh! Not certain yet, and why are you so happy?” Luo Shuangyue quickly signaled for Jiu Ye to lower her voice. There was no sense in celebrating before anything was confirmed.
If it turned out to be a false hope, that would be a disaster.
“If Monice-dono’s research really makes progress, I’ll become even stronger and be able to fight more powerful Demons!” Jiu Ye clenched her fists and punched the air twice.
As a cat with a bitter, life-or-death grudge against Lanwu, fighting stronger Demons and killing them was Jiu Ye’s greatest dream.
Even if it meant sacrificing her life, she was willing.
“Even if she invents new technology, it might not be used on you. Nobody knows if new modifications will conflict with old ones,” Luo Shuangyue poured cold water on Jiu Ye’s excitement.
That was the truth, and Jiu Ye’s enthusiasm instantly wilted.
“True…”
“Well, don’t overthink it. Being a carefree little cat isn’t bad either. As for those Demons, leave them to us.” Luo Shuangyue gave Jiu Ye’s cheeks a firm squeeze to comfort her.
Having worked with Jiu Ye for so long, she didn’t want to see this black cat lose her life before her eyes.
You grew attached to pets over time, especially when they were humanoid like Jiu Ye.
For those she cared about, Luo Shuangyue wanted nothing more than for them to stay safely behind her back, letting her protect them.
But it seemed those she wanted to protect were all quite restless…
Sigh, what a headache.
“Back already, big bro? You look pretty good today.”
Luo Shuangxing had already ordered takeout and was eating in the dining room when Luo Shuangyue came home a little late.
She glanced up at her sister and showed a faint look of approval.
At last, this sister of hers wasn’t clinging to those few pieces of men’s clothing but was opting for a more neutral, slightly feminine style.
Apart from not wearing a skirt, Luo Shuangyue’s outfit was what a more conservative girl might choose—long sleeves and long pants. On her, it actually had a certain charm.
“Fried chicken again? Be careful you don’t turn into a little fatty.” Luo Shuangyue shook her head and sat across from Luo Shuangxing, casually putting on disposable gloves and grabbing a piece of fried chicken.
She was genuinely hungry today.
That stingy boss Monice hadn’t taken care of her lunch, and on top of that, had drained all her magic power.
Her stomach was growling so loudly she might as well have been a dog, ready to chew chicken bones to pieces.
“I don’t think I’m gonna turn into a fatty. You’re the one on your way there.”
Luo Shuangxing’s eye twitched as she watched Luo Shuangyue wolf down the food.
What’s gotten into her? The sister who usually cared about dining etiquette had turned into this?
How hungry had she been to get like this? Starving for days?
“Order me another serving—this isn’t enough.”
“You really can eat…” Luo Shuangxing probably guessed what was up.
Luo Shuangyue must’ve been using too much magic power, and her body was instinctively demanding more nutrients to convert back into magic.
As for why she was using so much magic power… Luo Shuangxing wanted to ask, but she couldn’t.
She wasn’t supposed to know that Luo Shuangyue was Lord Dark Moth, nor did Luo Shuangyue know that she was Lily of the Valley.
As a normal little sister who liked to dress her big brother in women’s clothes, Luo Shuangxing couldn’t just ask, “Hey, big bro, are you using too much magic power?”
“Why? Only you get to eat, not me?” Luo Shuangyue rolled her eyes.
She had endured it when Luo Shuangxing ate so much after finishing her Training, so why couldn’t she eat a little more now?
“It’s fine, keep eating, I don’t mind.” Luo Shuangxing raised her hands in surrender.
No point arguing with Luo Shuangyue.
A starved sister like her, so understanding—good luck finding another like me.
Before Luo Shuangyue could finish filling her stomach, there was a soft knock at the door.
Xia Mo opened the door and walked in.
“Shuangyue, I want to talk to you about something.”
“Oh? What’s up?” Luo Shuangyue looked up, still busy eating.
“Ahem!” Xia Mo cleared her throat lightly. “It’s a bit private.”
As she spoke, she shot Luo Shuangxing a sharp look.
‘Shuangxing, go away for a bit,’ the look said clearly.
Luo Shuangxing immediately understood, nodded, and dashed to her room. Before closing the door, she sent a teasing look to Luo Shuangyue and Xia Mo.
“Got it. You two talk.”
She slammed the door shut with a bang.
What’s wrong with her? Can’t she think about anything serious? Luo Shuangyue complained silently and shifted her curious gaze to Xia Mo.
What could be so urgent that Xia Mo came over now?
Surely it wasn’t because she missed her so much she wanted to suck her magic power dry? Luo Shuangyue didn’t think Xia Mo was that desperate yet.
These days she had kept her promise to Xia Mo, dressing up in female clothes to hang out every few days.
Well, hang out was an overstatement—they just watched movies and drank coffee together.
On the side, Luo Shuangyue’s wardrobe of female clothes was reaching a frightening number.
Xia Mo kept buying her new outfits one after another, leaving no space for her men’s clothes.
When Xia Mo learned of her frustration, she simply waved her hand and said, “If you can’t put them away, don’t. I’ll buy you a few sets of more neutral female clothes—you can just pick what you want to wear. And throw away the men’s clothes that no longer suit your identity.”
“Shuangyue! I want Training!” Xia Mo slammed the table loudly.
Training?
“Mm? And?”
“Come up with a Training Plan for me.” Xia Mo continued.
Huh?
Luo Shuangyue scratched her head. “You can just follow the plan I gave before, right? Haven’t you fully adapted to that training intensity yet?”
“No, I’m slowly increasing the intensity, but now I want to train on more specialized stuff.” Xia Mo explained her idea in detail.
The story was simple: after defeating that King-class Magic Beast yesterday, Xia Mo realized her shortcomings.
Although her Magic Cannon’s power looked impressive, it wasn’t very effective against Demons with hard shells.
To avoid that becoming a reason for failure in the future, Xia Mo felt she absolutely needed to train that aspect.
She had to improve her Armor-Piercing Skill.
“That… you really gave me a tough problem.”
Luo Shuangyue was a Magic Girl who started halfway through, and her training methods were borrowed from her mother’s notes.
That kind of Training could quickly raise a Magic Girl’s basic strength, but specialized skills like Armor-Piercing were beyond Luo Shuangyue’s understanding.
Everyone had their specialty. As a sword-wielding Magic Girl, how could she possibly know how to help a cannon-wielding Magic Girl improve Armor-Piercing?
If Xia Mo asked her, she might as well ask the Director or the others. The Magic Department should have research on this.
“Why don’t you ask your Director or Feiqin?”
“I asked. They said Magic Girls who use Magic Cannons usually aren’t good at this.” Xia Mo explained helplessly.
If she could get an answer from the Director, she wouldn’t have come to Luo Shuangyue for help.
Among current Magic Girls, those who strengthen Armor-Piercing are mostly physical-damage users—sword or blade fighters.
Ranged ones usually use bows and arrows.
Cannon users like Xia Mo generally don’t specialize in Armor-Piercing; they rely more on dense firepower to kill Demons.
“But I think, since these Demons come once or twice, they’ll definitely come a third time, and the third wave will be even bigger. I need this skill so I won’t be a burden in battle.”
Xia Mo’s gaze burned as she looked at Luo Shuangyue. Since the last Demon attack, she had a strong sense of crisis.
Though Xinghai City was still calm for now, Xia Mo sensed a storm brewing. She had to improve her strength during this rare downtime.
At least, before the next attack, she wanted to be able to easily kill a Demon King of that type.
“I see… okay, I’ll think of a way to help you.” Luo Shuangyue didn’t refuse.
She shared Xia Mo’s thoughts—Xinghai City’s combat power had to be raised as soon as possible.
“Call Xiao Mimi and Luo Shuangxing too. Not all incoming Demons will be Demon Kings. If we can’t stop them all, they’ll need to join the fight.”
Training couldn’t just be for one person. The three Magic Girls of Xinghai City were a team; Xia Mo couldn’t hog all the benefits.
Besides, Luo Shuangyue didn’t think she could handle every Demon easily. If the next wave had many Demons, some would slip through and need the Blooming-Rank girls to clean up.
Since they had chosen the thorny path of being Magic Girls, fighting was inevitable.
“Have them join too? Sure.” Xia Mo nodded without hesitation.
Getting Luo Shuangxing and Xiao Mimi to train and improve was good. It also prepared them mentally, so they wouldn’t panic when facing strange Demons later.
Know your enemy, know yourself—that’s how you win every battle.
“But for the Armor-Piercing part, call Ye Lin too. We’ll figure it out together.” After settling on the Training plan, Luo Shuangyue started worrying about how to train Xia Mo.
She truly didn’t understand this stuff, so the best option was to gather everyone’s wisdom—starting with Ye Lin. As a Demon King, she was probably the most knowledgeable here.
“Also, call Shuangxing to your room later. I’ll dress up as Lord Dark Moth, and the four of us can brainstorm together.”
Since they were going all in, Luo Shuangyue thought it would be good to bring in the mischievous Luo Shuangxing. Maybe a quick wit like hers would come up with a good idea.
“Alright, meet at my place in an hour?”
“No problem!”
Whoosh!
Boom!
A pitch-black sphere streaked through the night sky and crashed into the wilderness outside Xinghai City, unnoticed by anyone.
In the crater, the sphere’s shell slowly opened, revealing a body vastly different from a Demon’s.
Suddenly, the eyes of the body snapped open, blood-red light flashing briefly.
“Hm… you mean, we’re going for Training?”
