Amelia drifted through another day in a foggy haze, sleeping so deeply she might as well have been a husband in deep slumber.
She never woke up once from beginning to end, so naturally, she had no idea what had happened the previous night—nor did she realize someone had sneaked into her home.
Now, her slender arms gently propped up her body as the silk quilt slipped from her fragrant shoulders, revealing skin as white and smooth as silk.
She blinked lazily, her long lashes casting delicate shadows in the morning light.
Her blood-red eyes instinctively glanced around.
She gently patted the empty space on the bed beside her, finding nothing but lingering warmth.
Sig, who should have been there, was long gone.
This made her a bit flustered, her breathing growing rapid.
She hurried out of bed.
The moment her jade-like feet touched the icy floor, the chill shot through her whole body, waking her up quite a bit.
She staggered a few steps before finally standing up straight, the morning light outlining her perfect curves.
As she yawned and stretched, her silver hair cascaded down to her waist like a waterfall.
Sunlight leaked through the tent’s seams, glimmering on her hair.
She was about to get dressed to go look for Sig—going out in her nightgown would be too embarrassing and inappropriate—but unexpectedly, her beloved had been waiting for her on the sofa all along.
He was slumped deep into the sofa, his shoulders drooping as if weighed down by burdens someone his age shouldn’t have to bear.
Beneath his disheveled blond hair, his eyes were bloodshot after a sleepless night, staring off somewhere, lost in thought, as if his soul was wandering.
Only when he saw Amelia wake did he greet her at a deliberate pace, his tone laced with a frustration that hadn’t found release, and even more with helplessness.
After all, the two of them had agreed to get intimate, but during a trip to the restroom, she’d disappeared—not disappeared, exactly, but just gone back to sleep without even a word.
Made me worry so much, searching all over the Demon King Castle, almost turning the whole place upside down.
But thankfully, she was fine.
That was his only consolation, and with that, he let out a breath and slowly stood up, straightening his back.
His bones cracked noisily before he began, unhurried, to speak.
“Good morning, Amelia.
You really put me through the wringer last night.
I hope you won’t do that again next time.
No matter how forgiving I am, no matter how good my temper, I can’t take this kind of double torture—body and mind—again.”
He obviously wasn’t spelling things out, just summarizing simply.
After all, the two of them knew what had happened, and what they’d each done.
Some things just aren’t worth putting into words.
Having finished, he turned his back to her, hands clasped behind him, leaving his beloved with a solitary, proud silhouette—as if to say, it’s just a bit of wind and frost.
At his feet, a sheet of Lu Kingdom paper ruined the mood and image, not only a precious relic, but a testament to life once lived.
“What…?”
Clearly, Amelia was confused and had no idea what her beloved was talking about.
After all, she remembered sleeping soundly last night, not doing anything at all, and not waking even once—more deeply asleep than a husband in deep slumber.
The more she thought about it, the more lost she felt, until her eyes drifted to the bed… and then she suddenly understood.
She pursed her lips, a bit guilty—maybe her sleeping posture had been too poor, which upset her beloved.
She hurried to apologize, her tone tinged with regret.
“Sorry, Sig. I’ll be more careful next time.
I hope you won’t mind or get angry again.
Really, I’m sorry.
I can’t help it—once I’m asleep, I have no control.”
“It’s fine, it’s just a small thing.
Just be careful next time.
I’m not so petty as to hold a grudge.
I just wanted to let you know, that’s all—no need to dwell on it.
Alright, I’m off to bed. Amelia, I’m really exhausted, didn’t sleep a wink last night.”
It was clear the two of them were completely talking past each other, but somehow, miraculously, they were on the same wavelength and even managed to finish their conversation.
Neither sensed anything off at all—perhaps that’s the beauty of human understanding.
With that, Sig could no longer hold on; his eyelids were at war, left brain attacking right, his soul drifting while his body moved.
He staggered past his beloved, his legs buckled, and he collapsed quietly onto the bed, closing his eyes and pulling up the quilt.
He made no further movements or responses—looked nearly dead, really.
He knew he could leave the Demon King Castle in Amelia’s hands.
He trusted her—that was fact, without a doubt.
After all, he knew Amelia was a woman who could hold up the sky.
If he tried to help now, he’d probably just get in the way—unless she asked for help, he’d stay out of it.
If she did ask, it’d never be a small matter.
It wasn’t laziness—he just knew the Demon King Castle needed to stand on its own.
He’d only helped before because of the threat of Gerald, but now that threat was gone—
Naturally, he could take it easy and didn’t plan to help anymore.
Still, before falling asleep, he forced himself to say one more thing.
“Be careful on your way, Amelia. Don’t let anything happen—or I’ll come running to your side in the very next second, that much I can promise.”
His words brimmed with concern, coming from deep within his heart.
His love was sincere; he wasn’t just playing around.
Other than Amelia, he really couldn’t fit anyone else in his heart.
“I know. I’ll be careful. You be careful too, Sig.”
After saying it, she realized she sounded silly.
What danger could there be in sleeping?
Obviously, she was overthinking.
It would make more sense to let him come find her after he woke up.
She raised her hand, pointed gently, and smiled brightly.
“And don’t sleep in too late!
If you have time, come visit me, okay?
Because I do miss you, really.
Tonight… you’d better do your best, Sig. I’m really looking forward to it.”
It wasn’t that she was desperate—she just wanted a child.
But as a Saintess, her body repelled demonkind, which she couldn’t control—it would dissolve anything Sig left in her, so she couldn’t get pregnant.
But that wasn’t reason enough to give up.
She knew if she kept at it, she’d eventually succeed—she just had to persist.
There was a faster, more effective way: if a new woman gained the gods’ recognition and became the new Empire Saintess, Amelia would lose her Saintess constitution, and pregnancy would be easy—
But that was even harder.
Sigh, best just to leave it as a dream.
“I know, I’ll do my best.
Just you watch—I guarantee I’ll make you satisfied, Lady Amelia.”
Right now, Sig answered carelessly, even managing a joke—not because he didn’t care, but because he was already mentally prepared.
Little did he know he was about to face disaster—about to be wrung dry, really.
After his beloved left, leaving the tent, he finally drifted into deep sleep, his heart and dreams still lingering on Amelia and all that had happened the previous night.
