“Where is this?” Iana opened her eyes groggily, her neck unable to turn no matter how she tried.
“What’s going on?”
Looking down, she realized that she and Lilian were both tied to a wooden plank, with a pile of dry grass beneath them.
Standing at the forefront of the Holy Knights was a knight holding a torch, its flames roaring and thick black smoke billowing.
Judging by the situation, it seemed like they were about to be roasted alive.
“No, please, not this!” Iana was nearly in tears.
All she had done was try to find Lilian to take her away, and now she was about to be burned.
“Awake?” The knight holding the torch spoke in a cold, stern tone.
“Can you let me down?” Iana blinked her big, watery eyes, trying to soften the knight’s heart and beg for mercy.
“Of course not. Blame yourself for getting involved with that infected one.”
“Now look at you. You were bitten, so to prevent potential risks, you too must be sentenced to Fire Punishment.”
Hearing this, Iana’s heart plummeted.
There was no way to resolve this peacefully—force was the only option left.
Force?
That was impossible!
The Holy Knights were all at least experts with Bloodline Development above ten percent.
She, on the other hand, was just a weakling barely hitting ten percent.
And she hadn’t even completed her First Trial of the Saintess, nor had she gained a single skill.
How could she possibly fight?
“Time’s up, sir.”
“Mm.”
With that, the knight tossed the torch into the dry grass beneath Iana and Lilian, intent on burning them alive.
“No! I’m still normal! I’m not infected!”
The scorching flames instantly ignited, and soon the fire had reached Iana’s backside.
“I’m going to die, I’m going to die, I’m going to die.”
Despair overwhelmed Iana.
She didn’t know who could possibly save her now.
Anyone who could save her must be a respected figure in this Holy City, someone deeply trusted by the people and who could command the Holy Knights.
But how could Iana possibly know anyone like that?
Just as she was about to give up, a spark of hope flashed through her mind.
She did know someone like that—Saintess Elia perfectly fit all those qualifications.
“I’m going to find Elia. I know her. She can prove that I’m not infected.”
At this point, Iana was grasping at straws.
Whether Elia would care was uncertain, but she had no one else to rely on.
If she didn’t try, she would die with regrets.
“You dare to utter the name of the Saintess? You wretched infected.”
“Don’t even struggle. I don’t believe the busy Saintess would know a nobody like you.”
Hearing Iana’s plea, the knight clearly didn’t believe her.
Not only did he refuse to put out the fire to save them, but he also scolded her harshly.
“I don’t think this fire is big enough yet for an infected like you to still be talking.”
No sooner had he spoken than he added more dry grass to the fire, intensifying the flames.
“You bastard! I already said I’m not infected! Why won’t you listen? Is your brain mush? Waterlogged? Or are you not even human, unable to understand?”
Iana unleashed a barrage of insults at the knight, but her words held no real weight—she was clearly someone who had crossed over from elementary school, lacking any truly cutting retorts.
Despite her tirade, it did nothing to free her.
Instead, it only amused the knights, who laughed loudly.
Her vision began to blur.
From shouting at the knights, Iana had to keep gasping for breath, inhaling large amounts of black smoke.
“Cough, cough, cough.”
About to be roasted alive, and choking on smoke, Iana could no longer speak.
Her mind grew hazy, and she slipped into unconsciousness.
In short, Iana felt like she was about to die.
Just then, as Iana was about to be cooked alive, Lilian’s hair color shifted to silver, and a helpless expression appeared on her face.
‘I told you to let me take control of the body. You couldn’t hold on to it. Why didn’t you listen? Well, now look at us. About to be roasted alive.’
Silver-haired Lilian sniffed the air—there was a strong smell of roasting meat lingering.
“Smells pretty good.”
‘Can you… can you save Iana?’ the blonde-haired Lilian thought desperately in her mind.
‘Save her?’
‘But this whole mess is your fault! Why should I come in when it’s time to save her? If you hadn’t wanted control of the body, none of this would be happening. It’s all your fault.’
Silver-haired Lilian voiced her disdain in Iana’s mind as she leaned close to the blonde Lilian and picked a strand of her hair with a finger.
‘It’s all my fault. I-I won’t fight you for control of the body anymore. I just hope you can save Iana.’
‘I won’t act without a price.’
The blonde Lilian was confused.
She had just promised not to compete for control anymore, and now silver Lilian wanted something else.
This was the only thing she could offer in exchange.
‘I’ve already given up the most valuable thing I have. I don’t know what else I can give.’ Her voice quivered with tears.
‘Hey, why are you crying?’ Even the ever-calm silver Lilian was caught off guard for the first time.
‘I’m not asking for control of the body. What I want is simple.’
Hearing this, blonde Lilian was even more confused—what could silver Lilian possibly want?
‘I just want you to let me join when you and Sister Iana do that thing.’
Silver-haired Lilian said this without a hint of embarrassment.
The moment blonde Lilian heard this, her face flushed bright red.
What did it mean “join when you and Iana do that thing”?
First of all, there was no way she would do that kind of thing with Iana.
Secondly, since they now shared one body, everything that happened would be experienced by both of them—even that kind of thing.
So this wasn’t really a condition at all.
‘But Iana and I would never do that kind of thing.’
Silver-haired Lilian just smiled wryly, ‘If you won’t do it with Sister Iana later, I wouldn’t even ask. For now, just agree. I understand what will happen better than you do.’
