2:00 A.M.
Residential District, Beckham Castle.
Lania, honored with the title Purple Brave, arrived at this massive castle built on the border between the Residential District and the Commercial District.
“Hey, are you sure there was a high-rank mana reaction here?”
Lania stood alone at the edge of the castle, her beautiful eyes scanning the surroundings.
Her soft, fluffy purple hair was tied into twin tails with a headband, falling gracefully over her shoulders, exuding youthful vitality.
Her slender and well-proportioned body was full of the promise of youth.
In one hand, she gripped a multifunctional Magic Communication Stone pendant, and in the other, she casually carried a massive scythe of exaggerated proportions.
Every Brave with a Hero’s Mark had their exclusive weapon. Hers was called Violet Surge.
Its name meant that when swung, the sweeping, overwhelming power would crash forward like a violet tidal wave over an endless ocean, trampling and destroying everything in its path!
“There’s no mistake. Although it was just a brief moment, our monitoring station also recorded it. Lania, hold your position and don’t make any rash moves.”
The voice on the other end of the communicator calmly analyzed the situation:
“This mana fluctuation is above Sixth Rank and appeared inside the city. Such cases are usually troublesome.
We’ve contacted the Brave responsible for Antler City to come assist. Observe quietly for now and stay safe.”
“Got it.”
Above Sixth Rank meant beyond Level 600.
No big problem.
Lania relaxed her stance. She leaned on Violet Surge, placing one foot on the ground and the other on the dull edge of her massive scythe.
She casually started a new topic through the communication stone, speaking as if chatting with a friend.
“Lilian, my teacher’s last resupply before heading to Demon King City was here in this very city, right?”
Silence came from the communication stone.
“Answer me, Lilian.”
Lania’s voice carried a hint of anger: “You’re also part of my teacher’s squad, and you all went on the expedition together, yet you couldn’t even bring my teacher’s body back. Instead, you and those people in the Capital hurriedly declared him dead. Not even bothering to search!”
“Sorry, Lania.”
The violet gem flickered faintly.
“Your teacher, the Night Hero, is dead…”
“Then where’s the body?!”
“…”
Couldn’t find it or just didn’t want to?
She calmed the anger in her heart, exhaling deeply before changing the subject: “What about the Priestess?”
“…”
Only silence replied to Lania.
As expected.
Suddenly, she felt the night grow colder; the wind was stronger than when she first arrived.
Teacher, oh teacher…
Weren’t you supposed to come back?
Lania turned off the communicator, feeling a trace of sorrow for her teacher.
Her teacher had always treated those people so well…
Suddenly, the purple gem in her hand began to tremble. At the same time, a scarlet glow rose in the night sky from another direction.
“Lania! Get out of the Residential District immediately!”
The communicator’s function, which she had just turned off, was forcibly reactivated, and Lilian’s urgent voice rang out:
“Evacuate! There’s a Ninth Rank or higher mana fluctuation on your side! This is worse than we thought! Don’t act rashly! Don’t act rashly!”
Clenching Violet Surge tightly, Lania instantly shifted into battle mode. She looked up.
The moon was slowly being engulfed in scarlet light. The city bathed in the red glow looked like hell itself, and this hellish light was spreading.
“This isn’t good. This power is close to Demon King Rank… There’s no way the city’s forces can resist it.”
Lilian’s star-like eyes gazed out the window as she whispered to herself.
“Disgusting, filthy demons.”
Core District.
One by one, the noble lords and upper-class citizens emerged from their homes. Seeing the hellish scene outside, some wore grave expressions, some looked pale, others trembled in fear.
“Where are the Braves? The Braves! Send them to eliminate the source of this monster! We pay so much tax — it’s time they’re useful…”
“How could such a terrifying monster appear inside the city? What are those Night Watchmen even doing? Are their eyes poked out?!”
“Darling, I told you this border city isn’t fit for tourism. Look at this… such a Great Demon King-level monster infiltrating the city, hahaha, ridiculous. We’re better off leaving by Balloon Boat first…”
“City Lord, that monster appeared in the Residential District, and all the Enforcement Team there have lost contact…”
“City Lord, multiple riots have broken out in the Residential District. Large numbers of civilians are breaking curfew and fleeing toward the Commercial District…”
“City Lord, the harbor has been sealed off as per your orders, but nobles with private yachts are already boarding and leaving…”
“City Lord, slaves imprisoned on Nick Street in the Commercial District have started revolting… Even hiring many Adventurers hasn’t effectively suppressed it…”
One piece of bad news after another was reported, and fear spread through the Core District.
Lania decided to abandon her stakeout at Beckham Castle and instead do her best to reduce the casualties caused by this incident.
Protecting humanity was the Brave’s duty. Her teacher had done that.
As the only apprentice, Lania would never allow her teacher’s reputation to be tarnished because of her.
“Lania, don’t act rashly! Return immediately! Don’t worry about others!”
Lilian’s voice through the purple gem was childish yet grave. “Someone will handle this!”
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to die.”
“I know your teacher left you many hidden cards, but right now! You! Must! Return to the Priory at once!”
“Hide under the watchful eyes of the gods and pray for safety? That’s not how my teacher taught me!” Lania smiled wryly. “Since you’re all so secretive about teacher’s information, don’t come ordering me around now!”
“Always talking about your teacher. Haha, you and your teacher are both equally stubborn!” Lilian laughed angrily. “Passing down the stubbornness, huh? Fine. Just don’t come crying to the Priory for healing when you’re badly injured!”
“If I don’t go, I don’t go. Pretend I want to!”
“You better come if you’re hurt!” Lilian’s chest tightened with frustration. Just as she was about to call someone for backup, the red moon in the sky suddenly changed.
The uncontrollable scarlet light that spread everywhere abruptly froze in the night sky.
Then, it was as if an invisible eraser appeared in the sky, wiping away the red paint representing the scarlet glow stroke by stroke.
Those whose hearts were magnified by the red light, restless and agitated, suddenly felt as if they were thrown into warm sea waters that purified the human soul, one by one entering a state of calm wisdom.
Lania froze as if petrified, from initial shock to disbelief, then to an indescribable excitement.
Her chest heaved violently, her face flushed from excitement, and even when the purple gem in her hand dropped to the ground, she didn’t react.
“Teacher? Teacher? This is teacher’s power!” Lania murmured. “It can’t be wrong. It absolutely can’t be wrong!”
