Bai Tang truly wanted to ask whether this constructed world even had a mother.
Every single step was a deadly trap.
This place really was not meant for ordinary people.
She swept her gaze across the entire tavern and saw only mocking stares.
“That guy Bowie wasn’t lying. The new human from the general store has some serious guts. She actually dared to walk into the Goat Tavern!”
A headless ghost held its severed head in both hands. Its dislocated jaw hung by just a few strands of muscle, swinging left and right with every laugh.
“Don’t mention that embarrassing fool. He actually lost nearly two hundred arms to a mere human.”
A scarecrow wrapped in tattered rags sneered.
“If he hadn’t gotten drunk and personally admitted that he was beaten by a frail human girl, I would have thought he suddenly grew bold and provoked the shopkeeper of that store.”
The scarecrow looked back at Bai Tang with feigned pity.
“It’s a shame Bowie isn’t here today. I really wanted him to watch how the human who scared him half to death gets torn apart by us.”
Many of the bizarre creatures in the tavern had already heard about the Thousand-Handed Demon mentioning a vicious, twisted human girl at No. 111 Undead Street last night.
Not a single one believed it.
After all, they encountered one or two unfortunate humans who had fallen into this world almost every month.
Without exception, none survived longer than half a day.
Every single one became a delicious snack.
The stereotype of humans being weak had long been deeply branded into their minds.
“Hehe~ Since you had the courage to step through the doors of the Goat Tavern on your own, I hope you’re already prepared to lose your life.”
The werewolf blocking Bai Tang’s path narrowed his eyes. His wolf pupils glowed with an eerie green light.
“Those little tricks you used to scare Bowie won’t work here.”
A sudden gust of wind swept into the tavern and blew Bai Tang’s straw hat off her head. It fluttered down and landed on the tavern floor.
Bai Tang’s expression remained calm. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, she slowly bent down.
Shit shit shit shit shit!
Was she really going to die here today?
What kind of logic was “if you have the courage to enter the tavern, you must be prepared to lose your life”?
The girl cursed wildly in her heart.
Back on Earth when she was still a guy, even when all her peers turned sixteen and unlocked the ability to ride motorcycles and tear up the streets, he never dared to push his bicycle past twelve kilometers per hour.
She, Bai Tang, really valued her life, okay!
If she had known the tavern had such ridiculous rules, she swore she would never have stepped foot inside.
Delivering the letter to the Barrel Butcher or whatever — she could have just bribed the Blood Doll to do it while she stayed far, far away!
“Hey, why did you suddenly stop moving? Don’t tell me you’re scared out of your wits?”
The werewolf narrowed his eyes and mocked.
His words triggered a wave of laughter from the surrounding crowd.
“Heh~”
As the saying went, even if you were terrified inside, you still had to maintain your composure on the surface. It was not only to keep others from seeing through you, but also to stay clear-headed at all times.
Bai Tang gave a soft laugh. She picked up the straw hat that had fallen to the floor, dusted it off, and placed it back on her head.
“You want my life? Fine. How do we play?”
“How about the hottest game in the Goat Tavern — Russian roulette? Completely fair.”
The werewolf grinned, clearly excited.
“Sure!” Bai Tang answered decisively. “But how do you prove the game is absolutely fair?”
At that moment, the tavern owner who had been watching from the side finally spoke.
“As long as the game is played in my tavern, I guarantee the rules will be completely fair.”
“Hmph! You say it’s fair and that makes it—”
Bai Tang instinctively wanted to retort, but the next second the Eye of Breaking Delusions displayed new information in her right eye. Her pupils shrank.
[Name: Walker / Barrel Butcher]
[Race: Flesh Undead]
[Level: Blood Robe Level]
[Alignment: Lawful Evil]
[Description: If you ever feel like having a casual drink, the Goat Tavern at No. 17 Undead Street — with its unlimited cheap beer — is the perfect choice. He will welcome you. Of course, it’s best to visit during White Day. When Long Night falls, he reveals a completely different side.]
Blood Robe Level — above Fierce Ghost Level.
The same rank as Bai Tang’s previous Night Demon teacher!
With the Barrel Butcher’s strength, if he wanted to eat her, there was zero chance of escape unless her Witch Teacher was standing right here.
But the idea of the Witch Teacher coming to save her seemed impossible no matter how she thought about it.
Whether she believed it or not, she had no choice but to accept it now.
“I admire your courage!” Bai Tang pretended to be calm and took the initiative. “Russian roulette requires four players. Besides the initiator — the werewolf — and myself, we still need two more.”
The scarecrow that had provoked her earlier immediately raised its hand.
“I love nothing more than tasting the fear that comes from the depths of a human’s heart.” The scarecrow grinned viciously.
For the final spot, the werewolf casually dragged over the weakest, most powerless creature nearby — a starving ghost.
“Everyone’s here. Clear out and make room for our courageous…”
The werewolf looked at Bai Tang.
“Bai Tang,” the girl answered coldly.
“…our courageous Miss Bai Tang!”
The scattered crowd quickly parted and formed a circle around the largest round table in the center of the tavern, enclosing the four players.
Bai Tang sat down with an expressionless face and placed her straw hat on the table.
Directly across from her sat the scarecrow. To her left, the starving ghost still looked somewhat dazed and confused.
The most dangerous werewolf had chosen the seat immediately clockwise from Bai Tang the moment she sat down — her right side.
Once the seats were chosen, the tavern owner walked over with heavy steps, the wooden floor creaking beneath him.
He handed over an old revolver and announced the rules.
“The rules of Russian roulette…”
Blindfolds on. Starting with one bullet loaded, players take turns firing clockwise at themselves until a live round is fired and someone is eliminated. Then the second round begins.
Each time one person is removed from the table, one additional live round is added to the cylinder.
The last person still sitting at the table is the winner.
Because everyone’s eyes are covered, each player may choose to spin the cylinder before or after firing. If they spin before firing, they must take an extra shot.
Those were the rules Bai Tang read from the tavern owner’s mouth.
“Then Russian roulette begins now.”
One live round was loaded into the revolver. The cylinder was spun and placed flat on the table. When it stopped, the barrel pointed straight at the werewolf.
“First round. Eric fires first. Blindfold them all.”
The moment the referee — the tavern owner — finished speaking, several bizarre creatures stepped forward and tied black cloths over the eyes of all four players.
The world before Bai Tang’s eyes plunged into complete darkness.
The corners of her mouth quietly curved upward.
The hunt had begun.
Who was the hunter and who was the prey was still anyone’s guess.
