In the dark space, Bai Shuanglian suddenly turned to look at the door behind her, as if she sensed something had happened.
“What’s wrong?”
A small hand in her palm moved.
Ling Xiaoyou leaned in, asking, “Did something happen?”
“It’s nothing, I must have just imagined it.”
Bai Shuanglian shook her head, not mentioning the strange feeling she just had.
She looked ahead into the pitch-black darkness, snapped her fingers, and a wisp of flame bloomed from her fingertip, illuminating the space.
Of course, it wasn’t a blazing sun-like fire, just an ordinary flame for lighting.
“Wow, so many ice blocks!”
Su Lihua, following beside them, let out a cry of surprise, gazing at the bluish ice illuminated by the flame.
Within those ice blocks, there were Spirits of various appearances, all equally ethereal and sealed within, eyes tightly closed as if in a deep slumber.
“It looks like those demons used these ice blocks to trap the Spirits.”
Ling Xiaoyou stared at the blue ice, feeling an odd sense of familiarity, though she couldn’t recall where she’d seen such ice before.
“Should we unseal them now?”
Su Lihua glanced at the ice blocks, then at the others.
“Wouldn’t that be troublesome?”
“Let’s wait a bit.”
Ling Xiaoyou thought for a moment and shared her idea.
“They’ve been inside the ice for so long, we don’t know their condition now. If we unseal them recklessly, something unexpected might happen.”
“That makes sense.”
Su Lihua nodded thoughtfully.
“We can contact the people from the Regulatory Division.”
Bai Shuanglian looked at the other two.
“They’re probably also looking for these missing Spirits. We can let them handle the unsealing and placement.”
“Good idea.”
Ling Xiaoyou nodded her small head, and a phrase popped into her mind—’Police, come out and clean up!’
She shook her head to toss out the random thought.
“But how do we contact people from the Regulatory Division?”
“Should we call 110? But the Regulatory Division only has similar duties to the police, they’re not really the police.”
“For this, Su Lihua should have a way.”
Bai Shuanglian paused and looked at Su Lihua.
“Eh? Me… me?”
Su Lihua was startled, nervously pointing at herself. Under Bai Shuanglian’s calm gaze, she shrank her neck and said helplessly,
“Fine, fine, I’ll go call someone to handle it!”
“Honestly, why do I always get stuck with this kind of thing?”
Su Lihua pouted, reluctantly pulled out her phone, and left the dark space, apparently planning to make a call.
“How did you know Su Lihua could handle it?”
Ling Xiaoyou was surprised by the scene, then turned to Bai Shuanglian to ask.
“Simple.”
Bai Shuanglian rubbed her little head.
“Su Lihua has an unusually powerful Artifact and always acts like she doesn’t want to reveal it.”
Following Bai Shuanglian’s words, Ling Xiaoyou recalled the time Su Lihua got mad after being forced to use her Artifact.
She nodded thoughtfully.
“So she doesn’t want to make a big deal and expose her involvement.”
“And usually, that kind of behavior is what you see when a second-generation with an unusual identity sneaks out.”
“So you thought Su Lihua could contact the Regulatory Division?”
Bai Shuanglian nodded slightly.
There were some differences, but that was mostly her reasoning.
“But if her identity isn’t ordinary, why would she run out to do something dangerous?”
Ling Xiaoyou looked at the entrance to the dark space, as if she could see the girl in a princess dress beyond.
“Maybe she wants her family’s recognition.”
Bai Shuanglian nodded, her tone somewhat approving.
Only then did Ling Xiaoyou remember that the Bai Family was a renowned Exorcist Family, a Noble Family, and as the most outstanding new generation, Bai Shuanglian was a proper Miss.
So both of you are Misses, and I’m just an orphan…
Ling Xiaoyou puffed her cheeks, gave a small hum at Bai Shuanglian’s puzzled look, and got grumpy by herself.
But her little mood passed quickly.
She looked at Bai Shuanglian and asked,
“By the way, Bai Shuanglian, do big families like yours have lots of complicated rules?”
“Yes, quite a few.”
Bai Shuanglian nodded.
“But maybe because I grew up there, I’m used to it.”
“Uwah, just thinking about so many rules sounds like a pain. If it were me, I probably wouldn’t last a day.”
Bai Shuanglian laughed softly and rubbed her little head.
“It’s fine, you’ll get used to it. I’ll teach you patiently.”
Ling Xiaoyou: “?”
What does that have to do with her? She’s not a member of the Bai Family.
Ling Xiaoyou scratched her head in confusion, but before she could ask, Su Lihua’s voice came from the entrance.
“Hey, you can come out now. I’ve already contacted the Regulatory Division. They’ll take care of this place.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
Bai Shuanglian took Ling Xiaoyou’s small hand.
She didn’t resist and followed her out.
“So, what were you two whispering about inside?”
As soon as they came out of the dark space, Su Lihua looked at them curiously.
“Nothing, just curious about your identity.”
Ling Xiaoyou glanced at Su Lihua, half-teasing.
“Ah, haha, I’m just an ordinary little girl. No special identity.”
Su Lihua froze, scratching her head awkwardly.
“An ordinary little girl who can contact the Regulatory Division at will?”
Ling Xiaoyou raised an eyebrow.
“Just leave it!”
Su Lihua waved her hands, signaling that it wasn’t important.
“Let’s just let the Regulatory Division handle these Spirits and head back to Old Lady Li’s shop.”
She quickly changed the topic, as if afraid they’d keep asking about her identity.
“By the way, what’s the Old Lady’s name? We can’t keep calling her Old Lady forever, right?”
“Not sure. If you want, just call her Elder like us.”
Ling Xiaoyou could tell Su Lihua didn’t want to continue this subject, so she didn’t push it.
“Ah, well, that’s fine too.”
The three left the dock.
Not long after, thick fog rolled in, swallowing up the battlefield they had just left behind.
