“I’m a Demonic Blade, so why do I have to wear clothes when going out?”
Desolate Fire lowered her head, staring at the clothes on her body, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
On the street, she felt an intense urge — to strip off every single piece of clothing.
However, Via had repeatedly warned her that she absolutely must not take off her clothes casually, so she had no choice but to suppress the thought for now.
“A dignified legendary weapon… and I actually have to go shopping?”
Desolate Fire muttered softly in complaint.
Carrying a large bag, she glanced at the list and compared it with the items in her hands. Most of what needed to be bought had already been purchased.
What remained was just to stock up on some food.
“Hm?”
Desolate Fire suddenly stopped. Her gaze was drawn to a blacksmith shop by the roadside.
“Newly forged weapons of all kinds! Come take a look, come take a look! Anniversary sale at our shop! Brand-new weapons with various functional enchantments! Special discount — everything 10% off, 10% off!!”
The blacksmith loudly advertised his wares, attracting quite a few adventurers. Noticing Desolate Fire looking over, he quickly approached with a smile.
“Miss, are you interested in any weapons? Whether it’s staves, swords, or even shield-axes, we have everything!”
“This one, this one, this one, and that one!”
Desolate Fire pointed at several of the weapons on display.
“Oh my, Miss, you’ve got quite the eye!”
The blacksmith’s eyes lit up — a big customer had arrived.
“These are all specially enchanted weapons. Each has unique effects. For example, this sword is enchanted with a Wind Stone. It increases swing speed, and when infused with mana, it can unleash a special skill — Gale Break!“
“I’ll take them all!”
Desolate Fire dumped all the money from her wallet onto the counter.
“Yes, yes, yes! Miss, you’re truly generous!” The blacksmith was overjoyed as he hurried to package everything according to her request.
“Lord Demon King, how did I do? Did I complete the task perfectly?”
Desolate Fire sat across from Via, holding a broken sword in her hand, crunch crunch crunch as she chewed on it.
“Food?”
“Yeah… I bought quite a lot, but… where’s the food? The things I’m supposed to eat…”
Via realized something strange — none of the food on her list had been brought back. Instead, Desolate Fire had returned with a pile of weapons she couldn’t use at all.
At that moment, Desolate Fire took another bite of the broken sword, eating it like a biscuit, thoroughly enjoying herself.
The scene was utterly bizarre.
“The food you wanted…”
Desolate Fire paused, suddenly realizing something. Sweat formed on her forehead.
She held out the half-eaten sword. “Lord Demon King… how about you make do with this?”
“My list didn’t include any of these weapons.”
A bad feeling rose in Via’s heart.
“You… didn’t spend all my remaining money on this junk, did you?”
“Lord Demon King, this isn’t junk — these are enchanted weapons! Every enchantment tastes incredibly delicious!” Desolate Fire emphasized. “You know I can devour other weapons —”
“So you didn’t buy a single thing I asked for, and spent all my money on this instead?!”
Via was furious. She grabbed Desolate Fire by the collar.
“I was tempted!” Desolate Fire explained hurriedly. “Ah, Lord Demon King, it’s not my fault! I haven’t devoured weapons in such a long time, I was really craving it! I just wanted to buy a little bit to taste! That’s not too much, right? I’ve been asleep for a full eighteen years…”
“You’re satisfied — but what about me?!”
Via was so angry she wanted to throw Desolate Fire straight out of the carriage.
As expected, this overly talkative Demonic Blade was completely unreliable.
“Lord Demon King, as the saying goes, great achievers don’t bother with trivial details! Don’t worry about it so much — we’ve already bought them, and we can’t return them anyway!” Desolate Fire took another bite of the broken sword. “Besides, I’m going with you to the Desolate Fallen Continent. That makes me your companion. Spending a little money on me isn’t unreasonable!”
“I’m speechless.”
Via sighed.
She should have just gone herself.
But she didn’t want to expose her identity in front of others, so she had no choice but to entrust the task to Desolate Fire.
In a way… Desolate Fire hadn’t disappointed her expectations.
If there was nothing to eat, she’d just make do later — she could always hunt some wild animals for food.
“Lord Demon King, do you need me to buy anything else?”
Desolate Fire had already finished the Wind Stone–enchanted sword and was now preparing to chew on a staff enchanted with a Flame Stone.
Via no longer wanted to deal with her.
She took control of the carriage. Pulled by horses with demonic beast bloodlines, it merged into the traffic on the city’s main road. Before long, they arrived at the city gate.
Those are… clerics?
At the gate, aside from the guards, Via also saw several clerics wearing the Holy Land’s attire.
“People in the carriage, please wait!” A guard stopped them. “Sorry, there have been demonized individuals active nearby. We’re searching for suspicious persons. Please step down for inspection!”
Via glanced at Desolate Fire.
Desolate Fire immediately understood. She reverted from her human form and disappeared.
Besides the guards, the clerics also approached.
The leading Holy Knight was visibly shocked when he saw Via.
“Miss Via, why are you here?”
Via fell silent.
She couldn’t explain things to the clerics.
“Miss Via, after you disappeared in Kado City, we’ve been searching for you all along. We never expected to find you… this far away.” The Holy Knight spoke sternly. “Please come back to the Holy Land with us!”
“I’m on a secret mission.” Via had no intention of getting off the carriage.
“A secret mission? We don’t know anything about that. We only know that the orders from above are to find you.” The Holy Knight’s attitude was firm — he didn’t believe a single word Via said and was determined to take her back.
What terrible timing…
Via felt unlucky.
She absolutely would not return to the Holy Land, and the other party had no intention of listening to her.
In that case…
She had no choice but to use force.
