“Hmph, are you dazzled by your big sister?”
Seeing her dazed expression, Xuefa Shaonv quickly wore a triumphant smile.
This playful attitude completely ruined the mystique of her earlier appearance.
Bai Fan came back to her senses and looked at her seriously. “I roughly understand your intentions, but there’s one thing you need to explain to me.”
She picked up a lock of snow-white hair and pointed at her own unfamiliar, pretty face.
“Why did you change me into this?”
Xuefa Shaonv looked at her with a smile.
“Isn’t this quite good-looking?”
“Stop talking nonsense! Change me back!”
“I’m sorry.” The girl spread her hands. “I didn’t tamper with you. You chose to become like this yourself.”
“I chose this?” Bai Fan’s temple twitched. “I never made such a request. Aren’t you relying on me to return to the human world? If you don’t change me back, don’t expect me to help you later.”
“How sad.” The girl immediately puffed out her cheeks. “You said you’d trust me, but you’re still this wary.”
She put her hands on her hips.
“I told you, I didn’t tamper with you.
When you awakened, the spiritual essence automatically completed your body, restoring it to a form closer to the essence of your soul.
What I did in Between Hells was just repair the damage, so—”
The girl reached out her finger and tapped Bai Fan’s forehead.
“This appearance of yours now is your original form.”
“My original form?” Bai Fan was stunned.
She looked down at her hands—slim, slender, with skin so fine it was unbelievable.
Then she touched her own face; unfamiliar, yet real.
An indescribable sense of absurdity rose from the bottom of her heart, as if her life had suddenly been turned over, and even she didn’t know which side was the truth.
“But if you want to change back, don’t worry.” The girl’s tone was light.
“You’re only in a temporary state right now; you haven’t officially become a first-tier Ascender yet. Once the spiritual essence in your body settles, you’ll likely change back.”
Bai Fan’s eyes lit up.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“What do I need to do?”
“Nothing.” The girl shrugged. “Just don’t use your power.”
Bai Fan was skeptical, but she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The problem of changing back had a temporary solution.
Only one thing remained.
She looked up, her gaze gradually turning cold.
“I want revenge.”
The girl raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Master Mo hurt me, and I’ll pay it back tenfold, but I’m not strong enough now.
You mentioned Ascenders earlier. How do I become an Ascender?”
“Master Mo?” Xuefa Shaonv let out a light laugh, her smile tinged with disdain.
“I saw him in your memories. He’s just a first-tier Blood Descendant Ascender.
He’s strong to you now, but in the world of Ascenders, he’s nothing.”
But Bai Fan caught another key point.
“Wait.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“You can see my memories?”
“Huh?” The girl blinked. “Got caught snooping on your elementary school love letters?”
Bai Fan’s expression froze.
“You’re really rude.”
“Just kidding.” The girl burst out laughing. “It’s just that your emotions were so strong at the time that the memory surfaced on its own.
If you don’t actively open your soul, I can’t see it either.”
Bai Fan secretly breathed a sigh of relief; if her memories were really casually perused by others…
Just thinking about it made her uncomfortable all over.
“Let’s focus on the main topic.” She brought the conversation back. “How do I become an Ascender?”
“Very simple.” The girl pointed. “Learn to use the Bright Spirit Jade.”
“Bright Spirit Jade?” As soon as the words left her mouth, a purple crystal slipped out of her pocket and fell to the ground with a clatter.
Bai Fan was stunned. This was the Ether Crystal she had picked up from the Corpse Beast’s corpse earlier.
She bent down to pick it up, and as soon as she held it, she noticed something was wrong.
It was lighter, and its color had changed. The originally murky purple had lightened considerably.
It was as if some power had washed away the impurities.
Bai Fan rubbed her eyes and examined it closely.
That’s right; the impurities had indeed decreased, which meant its value had greatly increased.
She looked up sharply, a gleam in her eyes.
“Is this the ability of the Bright Spirit Jade?”
“It’s one of them.” Xuefa Shaonv smiled. “It’s your ability now.”
Bai Fan’s breathing instantly quickened.
She knew too well what this meant.
Wealth, immense wealth—wealth that could even change a life.
“How do I use it?”
“I don’t know.”
“…” Bai Fan’s mouth twitched. “Aren’t you a soul that’s lived for hundreds of years? You don’t even know how to use such a powerful relic?”
“It doesn’t recognize me as its master anymore.” The girl said matter-of-factly. “And even if I told you, you wouldn’t get it.”
“How do you know I won’t get it if you don’t teach me?”
The girl thought for a moment.
“It’s like swimming. I tell you how to breathe, how to keep your balance, how to exert force.
You remember it all, and then? You still can’t swim.”
Bai Fan fell silent. That did seem to be the case.
“In the end, you have to actually get in the water.”
The girl said with a smile, but Bai Fan felt something was off.
This girl had said they were on the same boat from now on, but she always had an attitude of watching the show.
“Where is there water for me to get into now? And regarding Ascenders, I know almost nothing. You should at least tell me the basics, right?”
Xuefa Shaonv suddenly smiled, a smile that inexplicably sent a chill down the spine.
“The water will come soon. Just be careful not to drown.”
Bai Fan’s heart tightened.
“What do you mean—”
Suddenly, she clutched her chest.
A violent, sharp pain suddenly erupted, as if countless red-hot steel needles were drilling out from deep within her flesh.
“Urgh—”
Cold sweat instantly beaded on her forehead as she gritted her teeth.
She struggled to pull open the front of her clothes and looked down. Between her breasts, a strange mark was slowly appearing.
Three faces, six eyes—twisted and eerie. It was exactly the mark of that Three-Faced Deity Statue.
The smile on Xuefa Shaonv’s face gradually faded, her gaze turning cold.
“See.”
“Here it is.”
Bai Fan looked up, breathing rapidly.
“What is this?”
“The Erosion Mark.”
The girl spoke slowly. “A soul mark from the Abyss Evil God. You’ve been targeted.”
“What do you mean?”
“It means the sacrifice hasn’t ended.”
The girl said calmly. “From now on, the Evil God’s followers will keep hunting you until they sacrifice your soul to Him.”
Bai Fan’s face turned pale. “But haven’t I already died once?”
“The Bright Spirit Jade protected your soul. Your last breath didn’t break, so the ritual failed.”
Failed?
Bai Fan thought of Master Mo.
She thought of those blood-red eyes, and the anger in her chest blazed again.
“Are you scared?” the girl suddenly asked.
“Scared,” Bai Fan answered without hesitation.
The girl was taken aback instead.
“But I’ve been scared before.” Bai Fan slowly clenched her fists. “And I’ve backed down. And what happened? I was still betrayed by Master Mo.”
She raised her head, her gaze as firm as a blade.
“If that’s the case, then I won’t retreat anymore from now on.”
The girl watched her quietly, then slowly curled her lips into a smile.
Bai Fan asked, “What power is needed to drive the Bright Spirit Jade?”
“Awareness.”
“What is that?”
“A power that extends from the soul to perceive spiritual essence, spiritual energy, and spiritual pressure.”
“How do I acquire—”
“It’s here,” the girl suddenly said.
BOOM!
A piercing roar suddenly came from behind, as if a steel beast was howling.
Bai Fan instinctively turned around, a gust of wind rushing toward her face.
A long-haul semi-truck loaded with cement was crashing through the barrier, charging straight at her.
The cab was covered in mud, massive like an out-of-control monster.
Bai Fan was completely stunned.
“What the hell?!” She had just turned around.
BANG! The next second, her body was sent flying into the air.
The world spun wildly, sky and earth reversed. In the last moment before her consciousness drifted away.
Only one thought remained in her mind.
‘I just got reborn less than a day ago, and now I’m going to be reincarnated into another world?’
