Long Night and White Day alternated as time flowed steadily onward without a moment’s pause. In the blink of an eye, the tentacle rampage from two days ago had already become a thing of the past.
For the past two days, Bai Tang had obediently stayed inside the general store.
Besides regular business hours, most of her free time was spent assisting the Witch teacher with new magic potion production and quickly familiarizing herself with how to use her new tentacle abilities.
“The third leg of the mutated poison dart frog, a small pinch of fetal fur from a white mouse, the venom gland of the mutated silver-ringed snake… All of these must be thrown into the iron pot at the exact same time. The interval between additions cannot exceed 0.3 seconds…”
Claire directed Bai Tang.
It had to be admitted that after mastering the tentacle ability, the girl’s efficiency when helping make potions had increased dramatically.
Previously, Bai Tang would have to watch the clock and scramble to complete the Witch teacher’s precise steps. Now, with a mere thought, released tentacles stood ready at her side like several extra arms. They prepared the materials in advance and could toss them into the potion pot in the strict required order at any moment.
She could even free up her original hands to jot down notes on every word the Witch teacher said.
“Stir now.”
“Stir,” Bai Tang repeated.
With a thought, another pitch-black tentacle grew from behind her, tightly wrapping around the large iron spoon and stirring the medicinal soup in the pot.
“I’m thirsty. Pour me a glass of water,” Claire said casually.
“Teacher is thirsty, needs to drink… Wait! I don’t need to write this down!” Bai Tang tossed the quill aside, looking at the increasingly lazy Witch teacher with resentful eyes. Ever since realizing how convenient the tentacles were, she had been slacking off more and more.
Whoosh— A tentacle shot out the door at high speed. Moments later, it returned carrying a cup full of water.
Claire accepted the water cup with a smile and gently stroked Bai Tang’s tentacle.
“Not bad, not bad at all. So convenient~”
Seeing this, Bai Tang slightly turned her head away. She could feel the touch on her tentacle.
That feeling was a bit strange…
“Now add the final ingredient—the still-twitching fresh Parasitic Demon tentacle.” The Witch teacher suddenly grabbed one of the tentacles Bai Tang had released and smiled mischievously.
Bai Tang’s face turned pale in an instant.
No wonder the Witch teacher’s gaze toward her tentacles had seemed off since earlier. Why did the potion ingredient have to come from her own body!
……
……
“Here, an invisibility potion. Take it. It might save your life in a critical moment.” Claire stuffed the potion into Bai Tang’s arms, yawned, and headed back to her room. “I’m going back to sleep. After you clean up, if there are still tasks on the list, remember to complete them on time.”
“Got it, Teacher!”
Bai Tang focused her attention on the magic potion bottle in her hand. Text information slowly surfaced in her right gray eye.
【Name: Witch’s Handcrafted Invisibility Potion】
【Item: Magic Potion】
【Introduction: A magic potion jointly created by the Witch ‘Claire Charlotte’ and her human student ‘Bai Tang’. After consumption, it greatly suppresses one’s presence while granting invisibility, lasting 15 minutes.】
【Value: Who wouldn’t want invisibility?】
“Potion studies are way too overpowered. They can even create something with this kind of effect.”
Bai Tang grumbled.
Of course, no matter how ridiculous it was, learning it was no easier than calculus back on Earth. Even strictly following existing potion recipes, the failure rate was ridiculously high.
Not to mention casually creating new formulas like the Witch teacher.
Poison dart frog legs, silver-ringed snake venom glands… and so on. Bai Tang still couldn’t figure out how mixing a bunch of things that were clearly poisonous ingredients could produce an invisibility potion.
Were they even related?
Bai Tang shook her head hard.
I’ve fallen into a thinking trap. Different living environments, different natural enemies, even different food sources. How could the creatures of the hell world possibly be the same as those on Earth?
Their appearances were worlds apart. Only their names were similar.
Learning knowledge worked like this. Without true understanding, rote memorization was nearly useless. It was exactly like how students on Earth felt about math.
—Math doesn’t play pretend. No matter how much you scratch your head, if you don’t get it, you don’t get it.
“Whatever. I’ll just help Teacher a few more times later. I’ll figure it out eventually.”
Since she couldn’t understand it now, Bai Tang decided not to dwell on it. Completing the current task was more important.
She stuffed the magic potion given by the Witch teacher into her pocket, rolled up her sleeves, and began cleaning the tools used for potion-making. Half an hour passed in no time.
“Whew~ Finally done washing!”
Walking out of the back kitchen, Bai Tang shook the water off her hands and wiped the fine sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.
Washing potion pots was quite the physical workout.
Just then, thump thump knocking came from the general store entrance.
Bai Tang paused and looked toward the door. Standing outside was a bizarre figure wearing a straw raincoat, his entire face hidden beneath a large bamboo hat.
【Name: Tobias】
【Race: Apprentice Ghost】
【Level: Level 11 (Fierce Ghost Level)】
【Alignment: Chaotic Neutral】
【Introduction: Blacksmith apprentice. Sent by his master, the Blacksmith Ghost, to deliver custom-made revolver bullets to a certain human girl.】
“Is this Miss Bai Tang’s residence? I have something for you.”
The Demon Hunter Revolver bullets were finally ready?
Delight bloomed on Bai Tang’s face. After waiting two long days, they had finally arrived!
“Yes, I’m Bai Tang. Give it here!”
Upon hearing this, the apprentice ghost took out a palm-sized burlap sack from his pocket and handed it to Bai Tang. It felt heavy the moment she received it.
She placed the burlap sack on the counter, untied the string, and pulled out exactly six iron bullets. One by one, she loaded them into the cylinder of the Demon Hunter Revolver.
With a click, the cylinder locked in place. She raised the Demon Hunter Revolver, the corners of her mouth curving upward slightly. Even she wasn’t sure why she was smiling.
But one thing she knew for certain: right now she was terrifyingly strong!
Bai Tang suddenly turned to the apprentice ghost who had yet to leave and proposed,
“Hey, my teacher is probably asleep right now. Little humans like me are so weak. Don’t you want to take this opportunity to eat me?”
“Me?” The apprentice ghost pointed at himself, his face full of bewilderment.
His intention to use me for target practice is way too obvious!
“Since Miss Bai Tang has received the items, I’ll take my leave first!”
Watching the apprentice ghost vanish in a flash, Bai Tang pouted in boredom. But since he hadn’t intended to attack her, she couldn’t deliberately pick a fight.
After all, Bai Tang was a kind and innocent good girl!
“Take care.”
After putting away the Demon Hunter Revolver, Bai Tang finally had time to count the bullets sent from the blacksmith shop. It seemed metals like silver and copper were indeed hard to obtain. All the bullets delivered were iron-cased.
Including the six already loaded into the Demon Hunter Revolver, there were thirty iron bullets in total.
“Not many, but it should be enough for now.”
Eager to test the power of the Demon Hunter Revolver, and considering the Witch teacher was sleeping, she naturally couldn’t fire it inside the store.
Bai Tang suddenly remembered the Witch teacher’s instructions. She took down the memo note written last night from the shelf.
“What a coincidence. There’s exactly a delivery job that requires going out.”
