It was all thanks to the High-level stealth talisman.
Inside the cave, the undercover woman remained completely oblivious as Su Mumu gradually approached.
At the deepest part of the cave, Jiang Mengxin was thrown onto a pile of dried hay, her body tightly bound by a golden rope.
The undercover woman stood before her, looking down with a sneer as she cursed.
“You certainly are stubborn! Come on, I can’t wait to see your expression! It hurts quite a bit when your heart is ripped out, you know?” The woman licked her lips.
“…The Xianzong will not let you get away with this,” Jiang Mengxin said, her voice trembling slightly.
“The Xianzong? Hahaha! The Demon King is about to rise. The Changsheng immortal sect had better prepare for a new catastrophe!” The woman’s face was filled with madness.
“…Scum,” Jiang Mengxin muttered under her breath. Suddenly, her eyes went blank, and her expression turned into one of utter disbelief.
“What’s with that face?” The woman asked, confused. Then, a look of realization dawned on her. “Still trying to play tricks at a time like this?”
Su Mumu naturally understood why Jiang Mengxin was so surprised.
Currently, her entire body and her clothes were invisible.
However, the tree branch in her hand was not.
From Jiang Mengxin’s perspective, an unnervingly thick branch was eerily floating toward them.
“Go to hell! You idiot!” Su Mumu roared.
*Bang!*
The branch slammed heavily against the back of the woman’s head.
‘Heh, this is what I learned from playing Whack-A-Mole so many times. Ten years of sharpening a sword, all for this moment!’ Su Mumu sneered inwardly.
However, she had underestimated the woman’s physical defense.
The woman let out a shrill cry, her body swaying, but she still managed to turn her head. “Who!? Who dares to sneak attack me—”
When she saw the scene before her, she was momentarily stunned.
“A… tree branch!?”
“That’s right!” Su Mumu’s voice turned cold. “I am the Spirit of Life of this realm. Your heart is impure, and you shall be punished!”
“The Spirit of Life…?” The woman stammered in fear.
Su Mumu seized this one-second window of opportunity.
She put all her strength into it, swinging the branch violently at the woman’s head once more.
The force was so great that the branch actually snapped in two.
*Thud!*
The woman’s body jolted before she fell flat on the ground.
“Serves you right!” Su Mumu tossed the broken half of the branch aside and brushed the wood chips off her hands.
Afterward, she dragged the woman out of the cave and tossed her into a secluded thicket before returning.
The expression on Jiang Mengxin’s face was beyond colorful.
Su Mumu couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Well? Aren’t you going to worship this Spirit of Life?”
“I… fine.” Jiang Mengxin wiggled her body, looking somewhat awkward. “Spirit of Life, I am currently bound by the immortal binding rope. Please forgive me for being unable to perform a formal greeting.”
“Insolence! You lack sincerity!” Su Mumu barked.
“That’s not it, Great Deity. My cultivation is insufficient to escape…” Jiang Mengxin explained with an embarrassed look.
However, in the next second…
The effects of the stealth talisman were exhausted.
Su Mumu’s original form gradually materialized. Her features were exquisite, like a piece of art crafted by the heavens themselves.
She had cute fox ears and a fluffy tail.
And those crimson, spirited eyes looked like translucent tourmaline.
Jiang Mengxin could never forget this appearance.
She was completely dazed, her eyes wide with shock.
“A fox demon…!?”
“Huh?” Su Mumu looked down at her palms. “It wore off already…? How boring.”
“Fox, why are you here?” Jiang Mengxin’s eyes were filled with indignation.
Clearly, she was angry about being teased just now.
“I’m here to save you.” Su Mumu spread her hands. “If it weren’t for me, you’d be in deep trouble by now.”
“Are you in cahoots with her? Is this a play to gain my trust? What secrets are you trying to get out of me?” Jiang Mengxin fired off three questions in a row.
“Big sister, your logic is way too weird!” Su Mumu looked innocent. “Do I look like a bad person to you?”
“You don’t look like a person at all,” Jiang Mengxin replied.
“???” Su Mumu was stunned.
“You’re a fox,” Jiang Mengxin added. “A bad fox.”
“???” Su Mumu was even more confused.
Well, in a certain sense, it seemed Jiang Mengxin wasn’t wrong.
“Help me untie this,” Jiang Mengxin said, squirming.
The rope was tied very tight, outlining her slender waist and especially accentuating that terrifying 36D chest. It practically had the power to destroy the world!
Su Mumu walked over to the hay, sat down with a plop, stretched out her legs, and began rubbing her aching calves.
“No,” she said.
Jiang Mengxin was choked up for a moment. “Why?”
“You hate me so much, I’m afraid you’ll beat me up if I do.” Su Mumu had a look of pain on her face. “It hurts, it hurts so much… I overdid it with the exercise today.”
“I won’t,” Jiang Mengxin said.
“I don’t believe you,” Su Mumu replied without a second thought.
Jiang Mengxin didn’t respond. She became unusually quiet.
Curious, Su Mumu glanced sideways.
She happened to lock eyes with Jiang Mengxin’s amber gaze.
It was a look filled with scrutiny and suspicion.
“What are you looking at? Haven’t you ever seen a beauty before?” Su Mumu asked.
“You vain vixen,” Jiang Mengxin shot back mercilessly.
“Uh…” Su Mumu was speechless.
“Untie the rope,” Jiang Mengxin said again.
“So you can pin me to the ground and beat me up?” Su Mumu stretched. “You sure want everything to go your way, don’t you?”
‘My dear friend, do you think I don’t know what you’re thinking?’
“I promise not to hit you,” Jiang Mengxin said.
“Right, right.” Su Mumu chuckled. “It’ll be a ‘discipline’ session, won’t it?”
Jiang Mengxin was stunned, looking a bit taken aback.
It was quite amusing to see her look so surprised after having her thoughts read.
‘It’s a pity I don’t have my phone. I could have taken a photo of this,’ Su Mumu thought to herself.
“There’s something wrong with you,” Jiang Mengxin whispered.
“Yeah, there’s definitely something wrong with me,” Su Mumu grumbled. “If I knew you hated me this much, I wouldn’t have come to save you. Those damn elite class students almost roasted and ate me!”
A hint of hesitation appeared on Jiang Mengxin’s face. She stared at Su Mumu rubbing her calves, looking as if she wanted to say something but stopped.
“I already told you, I didn’t mean to mock you before,” Su Mumu muttered. “Besides, can’t humans and demons just be a little more friendly with each other?”
“No,” Jiang Mengxin said.
“Even if I saved you? Still no?” Su Mumu leaned over, smiling as she stared into Jiang Mengxin’s eyes again.
“This…” Jiang Mengxin frowned. “I will never forget that you saved my life.”
“Right?” Su Mumu started taking off her shoes.
“What are you doing?” Jiang Mengxin asked warily.
“Sleeping!” With a pained expression, Su Mumu lifted her legs and carefully lay down on the hay. Since the patch of hay wasn’t very large, she was almost shoulder-to-shoulder with Jiang Mengxin.
“Don’t touch me.” Jiang Mengxin started squirming again.
“Who wants to touch you?” Su Mumu turned over, her back to the girl as she grumbled discontentedly. “You’re in charge of keep watch. Call me if anything happens. I’m taking a nap.”
“I will not,” Jiang Mengxin said unhappily.
“Big sister, you’re bundled up like a zongzi. If you don’t call me, are we supposed to die together?” Su Mumu said crossly. “If I wanted to frame you, I would have done it already!”
At that, the vigilance on Jiang Mengxin’s face finally faded.
It was replaced by surprise and a bit of confusion.
She didn’t understand.
Why did this fox demon act as if she were looking out for her at every turn?
Was it an act? Was there some other hidden scheme?
— However, very soon.
Jiang Mengxin heard faint snoring.
‘Good grief, she really fell asleep…’
‘What a silly fox. Is she not even afraid that I might break free from the ropes?’
