Watching Yiserin panic, stomping her feet, Ian had no idea what was wrong with her.
Moments ago, she’d been clasping her hands, begging him to teach her disguise techniques. Now, she was a mess, muttering under her breath, “It’s over, it’s over. Why is she here?”
Yiserin’s mood plummeted. The thrill of meeting two stunning beauties had been washed away by that scent.
Feeling the fragrance grow closer, Yiserin looked at Ian as if he were her lifeline, grabbing his shoulders with both hands.
Her touch landed right on Ian’s injured left shoulder, sending a sharp, bone-deep pain through him.
“Don’t touch there—it hurts!” Ian yelped in pain, swatting her hand off his shoulder.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to! I’m just too nervous,” Yiserin explained in a flustered tone. She hadn’t known about Ian’s injury—had she, she wouldn’t have touched him.
If not for the scent wafting in from outside, she wouldn’t have acted so impulsively.
Grabbing a stranger’s shoulders on a first meeting wasn’t polite and could tank her favor with them.
But Yiserin couldn’t care less now. She just wanted to learn Ian’s masterful disguise techniques quickly.
As she opened her mouth to plead again, a thought struck her. With the person outside nearing the restaurant, was it too late to learn now?
Am I doomed to accept my fate? If my cousin finds me, she’ll drag me back, and I’ll be worse than dead.
Recalling her cousin’s hollow, resentful gaze, Yiserin shuddered, goosebumps rising as fear gripped her.
No, I can’t let her catch me. I’m disguised right now. Sure, people tease me for looking like a girl, but they still think I’m a boy.
My disguise should be enough to fool her, right?
Yeah, that’s got to be it. My disguise can trick my cousin.
But no way! Yiserin trembled, remembering the yandere characters from light novels she’d read in human society.
Those yanderes could find you no matter how you disguised yourself.
In one bookstore specializing in light novels, she’d read stories where even boys turned into beautiful girls couldn’t escape a yandere’s pursuit.
Does that mean even if Ian teaches me disguise techniques, I still can’t escape my cousin?
I’m trapped, aren’t I? Yiserin felt utterly helpless.
After racking her brain, she couldn’t figure out what to do. Her restless body calmed, and her anxious expression grew still.
Maybe I treat a dead horse as a live one and have Ian disguise me. What if it fools my cousin?
It was her only option. She could only hope her cousin’s yandere tendencies weren’t as extreme as those in novels, unable to see through her disguise.
Yiserin leaned close to Ian’s ear again, whispering, “Ian, if you can’t teach me disguise techniques, can you at least disguise me once? Please.”
Ian watched her shift from panic to calm, unsure what she’d been thinking. At her request, he gave a helpless smile.
Teaching or helping with a disguise was impossible—he didn’t know any disguise techniques.
He was just a regular steward before, not a spy. High-level disguise skills were beyond him.
As Ian opened his mouth to refuse, Yiserin did something unexpected.
“I’m begging you,” she said, her legs buckling as she started to kneel.
Ian quickly grabbed her, stopping her from dropping. “Don’t do this! I don’t know any disguise techniques!”
Yiserin, seeing Ian’s refusal to admit his skills, assumed he was guarding his identity.
“Please, it’s urgent. If you don’t help me disguise, I might be in mortal danger,” she pleaded, standing with Ian’s help but still pressing him.
“Mortal danger?” Ian was baffled. What danger could there be here?
Who could kill someone at Saint Roland Magic Academy? Are the demons attacking?
But even if they were, how would Yiserin know? That kind of intel should be top secret.
And a demon attack now? According to the novel, their major assault was still far off.
“Sorry, I don’t know what you mean by mortal danger, but I really don’t know any disguise techniques.”
Click.
The sound of the door being pushed open reached Yiserin’s ears from behind.
“It’s too late,” Yiserin said to Ian. “I’m going to hide in the bathroom. If a tall girl comes looking for someone, can you please stop her?”
Without waiting for Ian’s reply, Yiserin bolted back into the bathroom.
Ian watched her frantic retreat, clueless about what was happening.
Is her enemy coming in?
At the sound of the door, Chiye’s mother emerged from the kitchen with another plate of dark cuisine.
She placed it in front of Flora, then approached the newcomers with a menu.
“Hey, my dear daughter, didn’t you say you had student council duties today and couldn’t come eat?” Chiye’s mother looked at Chiye in surprise, not expecting her at this hour.
Chiye, seeing her mother nearly expose her gender, quickly pulled her to a corner. “I’m cross-dressing as a boy right now—don’t blow my cover!”
Chiye’s mother squinted at her daughter in the male uniform, displeased. “You’re a girl—why wear boys’ clothes? Don’t you know it’s not cute at all?”
“Come, let Mama put you in a pretty dress.”
Chiye bristled at her mother’s words. “No way! I’m cross-dressing because of you!”
Her mother looked puzzled. “How is this my fault?”
“Hmph, it just is,” Chiye huffed. “Anyway, just cooperate with my work.”
“How about Mama whips up a few dishes for you? You look so thin,” her mother said, eyeing her.
The thought of her mother’s cooking made Chiye shudder. “No thanks, I already ate.”
Seeing her mother’s skeptical look, Chiye quickly changed the subject. “Anyway, we’re here to check for demons. I need to get to work.”
With that, Chiye returned to the side of the newly appointed student council president, Serinveia.
