On the evening of January 1st, the game officials released a new story PV, sparking heated discussions among players.
The third stage of the main storyline will launch on January 5th!
All the players who first saw this news were incredulous. This game actually has a story PV? Isn’t it enough to just fight and kill? The main storyline of the first two stages could be summarized in a single sentence!
But after watching this PV, all the players suddenly realized that they had truly misunderstood the game company before—this game really does have a story.
Previously, players always called Eternal World the spiritual successor to Souls-style storytelling.
That’s because in Eternal World, the main quests for the first two stages only offered a few cryptic words, never explaining the origins of events. If players didn’t read the analysis posts from experts on the forums, they’d be completely in the dark, with all the plot left to their own speculation.
Zhang Cheng could attest to this—Eternal World really was like that.
But because the background setting of the Eternal World was so perfect and there was so much to study, every nation’s history could be traced to its roots and made sense on its own.
Even some of the widely circulated folk legends or hero tales in the game could easily be turned into adventure novels.
So, this kind of storytelling actually attracted a large number of players who love deduction and reasoning.
But all that is in the past. Unlike the scant main story text before, the third stage’s main storyline is much more substantial, making it feel like a proper game.
The official PV starts with the Sama Empire, which was destroyed by the dragon race eight hundred years ago.
A thousand years ago, the Sama Empire rose rapidly and, together with the Letachino Empire of that time, was known as one of the twin powers of the continent—its strength even surpassed that of Letachino back then.
Precisely because of this, the Sama royal family grew increasingly arrogant, sowing the seeds of the empire’s eventual destruction.
During a chance hunt, a member of the Sama royal family captured a lost dragon hatchling. Instead of returning it to the dragon race, they hollowed out a mountain and kept the young dragon caged inside.
This went on for decades. The young dragon, still not very old, was tormented by magic and then forcibly brainwashed, making it forget it was a dragon. It became a plaything for the Sama royals, used to satisfy their desire to become world rulers and trample dragons beneath their feet.
Time passed to eight hundred years ago. The newly crowned emperor, spoiled and violent since youth, had always enjoyed tormenting the dragon hatchling. Once he held absolute power, his cruelty only grew worse.
He became increasingly abusive toward this resilient “toy,” subjecting it to torture and using it as a target for magic experiments. The hatchling was often left battered and bloodied.
After decades of such “training,” the young dragon could only feel fear toward humans and never dared to resist. As the Sama Emperor’s methods became even more brutal, the dragon could only passively endure, until it finally died under the relentless torment.
When the Sama Emperor saw the dragon die, he didn’t care at all—it was just one less toy, and he had plenty of other amusements.
Though cruel and violent, the emperor wasn’t stupid. He knew not to arouse the dragon race’s suspicions. He didn’t even use the precious dragon materials from the corpse, instead filling the mountain’s interior with earth magic.
After the dragon’s death, the emperor began seeking new entertainment.
At first, he targeted commoners, but soon found them too lowly to be interesting.
Then he set his sights on servants, but that quickly grew boring as well.
Finally, the emperor turned to the nobles and guards, thinking that those of higher status or training would struggle more, making it more entertaining.
“We’re not like those lowly commoners—we’re all nobles with status!” When the emperor’s cruelty became unbearable, the nobles began to resist, and most of the nobles and soldiers joined the uprising.
Thus, the emperor’s atrocities were exposed, and the royal family was overthrown. Those with sharp senses among the royals fled back to their own fiefs ahead of time.
Afterward, the dragons learned of what had happened. In just three days, the dragon army led by the Blue Dragon King Karlmer captured all surviving members of the Sama royal family across the nation.
Upon learning the tragic fate of the young dragon, the dragons would not let the culprits die easily. They summoned the hatchling’s soul, which had turned into a vengeful spirit due to its lingering resentment, and had it devour all the members of the Sama royal family.
Then, the dragons turned the corpses of all royal family members into Dead Servants and sealed them inside the mountain, guarding the vengeful spirit that the young dragon had become. The dragons wanted their bodies to know no peace even in death.
With this domineering method, the dragons maintained their status as rulers of the world, and their overwhelming strength sent a deep shock through all living beings on both continents, reminding them of the terror of being ruled by dragons in ancient times.
As time passed, the former lands of the Sama Empire split and merged, eventually becoming four nations, with the Kingdom of Molton claiming the largest territory.
That mountain, once filled with countless corpses, is now used by the Kingdom of Molton as a prison for criminals.
The new main storyline will start here, opening a brand-new small team dungeon: Fengxiao Valley.
On the game forums, players began heated discussions.
“This dungeon is a 10-man raid? Doesn’t that mean solo players and small teams with less than 10 people are out of luck?”
“This is the game’s first speedrun dungeon! The big guilds are going to start competing for rankings! I wonder which strategy team will take the top spot!”
“They haven’t even reached level 60 and a new quest stage is already open. I heard it’s because someone triggered a quest in the prison!”
“Wow, a top player in the gaming world! Even going to prison can trigger the main quest!”
“Ahem, don’t use that title so lightly. ‘Top player in the gaming world’ used to be a backhanded compliment.”
Zhang Cheng, upon hearing the news, remained calm and continued directing his wyvern in battle. The wyvern cast a resentful glance at him, but he ignored it.
Zhang Cheng now stood in a graveyard dungeon, surrounded by Skeleton Soldiers around level 60. It took him ages to whittle down a single little skeleton, nearly dying himself, while the wyvern could stomp out a skeleton with one blow.
In less than half an hour, his experience bar had risen by a third—an incredible rate.
There’s no way he’d fight himself; he’d just leave the leveling to the wyvern! Look how happy it is now—what a beautiful kick! You could tell it was using all its strength!
As for that dungeon… he’d already decided. Once he finished the main quest, he’d leave. That dungeon wasn’t for lone wolves like him.
Zhang Cheng kept scrolling through the comments.
“What? The Silver Dragon is making a cameo in this dungeon too?” Zhang Cheng muttered to himself.
“I used to be a lone wolf, but it’s about time to join a strong strategy team!”
