The only nation on the planet made up of 26 super-metropolitan cities.
Hero City.
The heroes of Hero City, set in cities divided from A to Z, were always dedicated to developing uncharted areas beyond the city and protecting this unique city-state where humanity resides.
However, about a month ago, in A City, the central hub of such heroes, at the Hero Association located in A City, emergency sirens echoed underground and above ground from the massive base that stretched into the clouds.
“Y, we’ve detected a signal of a Grade 2 or higher monster in Y City!”
“Grade 2… Grade 2… Grade 1… Grade, Grade 1?!”
“Correction! We’ve detected the signal of a Grade 1 monster in Y City!”
It wasn’t in the uncharted areas beyond the city but within Hero City itself.
And not just any monster—it was a Grade 1 monster, just below the ‘Special Grade,’ which directly links to humanity’s extinction.
“This is the first Grade 1 monster to appear in the 89 years since Hero City was established!”
“Currently, all the S-Class heroes capable of facing a Grade 1 monster are outside in uncharted zones. At the earliest, we’d need at least a month to gather them back…”
“Damn it, of all times, when all five S-Class heroes are out, such a thing appears!”
The situation was the worst.
To make matters worse, Y City was quite a distance from A City, where the Hero Association headquarters was located.
This meant even providing support was difficult, so as a temporary measure, heroes from nearby Z City and X City were summoned to Y City, regardless of their rank…
“Ca, casualties reported! Casualties reported!”
“B-Class hero Six-Limbed Woman and A-Class hero Tao Girl have sustained serious injuries!”
“In addition, the number of heroes abandoning the front lines has now exceeded three digits!”
…Immediately after that, the Hero Association had to face bitter reality again.
“The monster that appeared has been identified as none other than the ‘Violence’ monster!”
“Violence, huh… even the name gives me chills.”
“Due to severe injuries to anyone entering Y City, a boycott is spreading among the heroes!”
“While we’re trying to cooperate with the military, at this rate, there’s a real risk that all of Hero City could fall into danger.”
The combat power of a Grade 1 monster was equal to, or slightly below, that of an S-Class hero.
However, its identity was the Violence Monster.
The word ‘violence,’ its nickname, was something that could instill fear in all living creatures, including humans.
And so,
“…It seems we’ll have no choice but to temporarily ‘seal off’ Y City.”
To subdue the Violence Monster, at least one S-Class hero was deemed necessary.
Based on this judgment, the Hero Association in A City immediately quarantined Y City.
No living creature was allowed to approach the area until an S-Class hero returned to the city.
Three weeks later, an unexpected humanoid monster appeared out of nowhere.
Of course, I’d only seen a scope in movies before.
Even in the military, where guns were standard, such sniper equipment was too valuable to lend to ordinary soldiers.
So when a red laser, likely from a scope, slowly reached my forehead,
“…Ack.”
‘Damn it.’
Bang.
With a sharp sound, I was knocked backward.
“Target hit!”
“We’ve neutralized the Grade 1 Violence Monster and an additional humanoid monster that seemed to have emerged from the ‘Otherworld’ in Y City.”
“Just in case, let’s take the body back for research purposes.”
The chocolate bar and water bottle I was holding scattered everywhere.
At the same time, I began to hear hurried footsteps.
“What’s this?… A chocolate bar?”
“A monster carrying a chocolate bar? What’s going on?”
“I don’t know what this is, but humanoid monsters like this are extremely rare. Let’s quickly pack it up and submit it to the lab.”
Not only did they shoot me in the head, but they also planned to use me as a research specimen in their lab.
Those despicable humans! Or so I thought, but then I quickly accepted that such actions were understandable since I was, after all, a monster.
But wait… since I was headshotted by a sniper rifle, does that mean I’m already dead?
…Twitch, twitch.
“?! Wh, what’s this? This guy is still alive?”
“Everyone, stay back and get back into combat positions!”
“The monster-grade bullet definitely hit the center of its forehead. How is it still alive…?”
For someone supposedly dead, I was just lying there, and even the forehead hit by the headshot didn’t hurt.
So out of curiosity, I tried getting up, and standing before me, as I scratched my perfectly fine horn, were low-ranked soldiers armed with monster-grade equipment.
No way, the soldiers who usually appear in Kaiju Frontline as supporters for heroes were now pointing their guns at me.
“A monster hit directly in the head with anti-kaiju bullets and still fine…”
“T-That means it’s at least a quasi-class 3 monster, right?!”
“Don’t be so flustered, guys! At best, this guy might just be like that goat monster we encountered earlier—tough body and that’s it!”
The goat monster? The one that flew into the convenience store with its head chopped off earlier?
So that’s why it died—it got taken down by this military unit.
‘No matter what, I don’t want to fight humans…’
But even so, how in the world am I supposed to handle this situation?
As a kaiju now, the only thing that came out of my mouth was a guttural krrrk krrrk! Just the kaiju language.
If I tried to defend myself in this kaiju language, they’d probably think I was threatening them and start shooting bullets again.
“Captain, that thing isn’t moving at all…”
“Then this is actually an opportunity! We need to eliminate small fry like this in advance, for the S-class hero currently heading to Y City!”
“Yes, sir!”
S-class hero?
Wait a minute—did they just say an S-class hero is on their way here?
And Y City…
I figured this city had been attacked recently.
But to think that the ruined place where I woke up for the first time was Kaiju Frontline’s tutorial area, Y City?
‘Huh? Something’s weird. When I was playing Kaiju Frontline, there wasn’t any storyline about Y City being attacked, was there?’
So does that mean this is from the storyline that continued after I quit the game?
Even so, there were a few strange things.
First, the scattered chocolate bars around me.
Those overpowered items that fully restored stamina to 100% just by eating them—weren’t they from the game’s 3rd anniversary event?
Because of their ridiculously broken performance and the fact that they could even be used in PvP, they were eventually removed.
If this world is really Kaiju Frontline after I quit, then these “Free Choco Bars” shouldn’t exist.
‘What the hell is going on?’
At least I could tell that the world I was in was the Kaiju Frontline universe, but I had no clue about the timeline.
But before I could dwell on it too much—
Click.
Clack.
Click!
It seemed like I really didn’t have much time left.
“Everyone, get ready to fire when I give the command!”
“Yes, sir!”
Damn it.
The female soldiers in front of me had already finished loading their weapons.
At this rate, a fight with humans was inevitable.
Then, an idea suddenly came to me.
‘What if I make a gesture of surrender?’
I’ll try to show them that I have no intention of fighting.
So, I slowly—
Swoosh.
“?! It’s moving!”
“What is it doing?”
In the United States, where gun ownership is allowed, they consider lying face down and raising both hands and legs as a gesture of surrender.
As soldiers who fire guns, they must know the meaning of this action, right?
“Is it lying face down?”
“And raising both hands and legs?”
“That… isn’t that the usual action we make when subduing terrorists?”
“Wait, does this mean the kaiju is surrendering like a human?”
Yes, that’s right.
It’s a gesture of surrender.
As far as I know, in Kaiju Frontline, there were a few monsters that formed contracts with humans and cooperated.
So even though I became a kaiju, there’s no law saying I couldn’t live differently.
‘Now that this has happened, my goal changes to getting “special treatment”…!’
And according to what was mentioned, kaiju who help humanity live luxurious and comfortable lives, according to the setting book.
In a way, it was a chance to live a happier life than when I was human.
With that thought, I posed cutely, and my horns gleamed with red light.
“U-Um… could this one be a kaiju that we can communicate with?”
“I think…”
“Look, I shot it in the head with a bullet, but it hasn’t attacked us.”
“That’s right. It hasn’t attacked!”
“So… does this mean it’s not a bad kaiju?”
I nodded.
I was shaking my head while lying down, signaling that I was a good kaiju and asking them to please lower their guns.
Crack!
Just then, an enormous bang! echoed.
Was it because I was leaning against the ground?
The ground seemed to shake strangely, and suddenly, a massive earthquake shook the area.
“Ahhh!”
“What is that?”
“An earthquake…?”
“No.”
At the same time, huge buildings in the distance started to collapse one by one, like dominoes.
As I watched the buildings falling in a straight line toward us, I realized this wasn’t a natural event.
As I suspected…
Whoosh.
When the department store right in front of us exploded and sank, like tofu being sliced,
Thud.
Something landed on the armored vehicle the female soldiers were riding.
It was a grotesque monster with branch-like horns growing from its head and skin with red veins, looking absolutely terrifying.
“Grrr…”
It surveyed the surroundings with five eyes embedded in its forehead, each one staring at different targets, clearly a monster bent on fighting.
“W-We’ve encountered… the monster of violence…!”
“No way… I heard there was little chance of a monster appearing in the city center, but we’re at the outskirts!”
“…! Could it be a decoy attack from the monsters?!”
In the midst of this,
Grrrk?
‘Huh?’
“Oh, I get it now! That’s why it pretended to surrender so peacefully.”
The kaiju… was buying time until its leader arrived!”
Damn it, I was a fool for believing it!
What the hell made me end up like this…?
