[Temporary Incident Record] 769-C-8
Author:
Researcher D, affiliated with FPL 6th Research Institute
Incident Overview:
At ■ o’clock ■■ minutes, a containment failure of IF-769-1 occurred at the 4th Research Institute, resulting in multiple casualties.
In response, the 6th Research Institute dispatched the dedicated IF-769 Mobile Task Force “Marijan Ballet.”
At ■■ minutes past the containment failure, IF-769-1 was found dead.
Details:
Below is the recorded communication between the Mobile Task Force “Marijan Ballet” members and the command center at the 6th Research Institute.
FPL 4th Research Institute Rooftop.
Ten members of the IF-769-dedicated Mobile Task Force “Marijan Ballet” descend from IF-401.
All members of “Marijan Ballet” are equipped with bulletproof vests reinforced with consecrated ballistic plates and ARX-420 rifles loaded with 6.8mm silver bullets.
They are all veterans with at least 11 prior operations involving the termination of IF-769-1.
Operative 1:Successfully landed at the drop point. Checking for any anomalies before commencing the operation.
Operative 2: No abnormalities.
Operative 3: No issues.
The voices of the “Marijan Ballet” operatives continue.
Operative 1: All clear. You all heard the briefing on the way here, so I’ll keep it short.
A hologram appears on the operatives’ wrists. It is a map of the 4th Research Institute, showing the shortest route to Sector C-17.
Operative 1: The target’s current location is Sector C-17, blocked off by containment walls.
There are no signs of it attempting to move elsewhere.
The mission is simple—find IF-769-1 and turn it into a pincushion with silver bullets.
Operative 1: Sector C-17 is a residential area, but as you all know, anyone who was inside has either evacuated or been eaten by the wolf, so don’t worry about collateral damage.
Operative 1: Any questions?
Operative 2: Operative 2, I have a question.
Operative 1: Speak.
Operative 2: IF-769-1 typically requires a tightening perimeter before engaging, doesn’t it?
Given its behavioral pattern, the fact that it remained in one sector until the containment walls dropped seems suspicious.
Operative 1: IF-769-1 was not detected in any connected passageways.
Unless it suddenly developed phase-shifting abilities and sank into the ground, it’s definitely hiding in Sector C-17.
Operative 2: Understood.
Operative 1: Command, we are entering the site.
Command: Confirmed.
The team moves into the facility, their footsteps synchronized.
Approximately seven minutes later, they enter the C-17 sector, where power is completely cut off.
The containment walls unlock with a mechanical hiss.
The sector is eerily silent.
Operative 4: Ugh, the smell of blood…
Operative 1: So it cut the power first.
Smart bastard.
Everyone, switch to night vision.
A sound of helmets being adjusted is heard.
Operative 3: Everyone, look at this.
Operative 1: What is it?
Operative 3: Footprints.
They’re from IF-769-1.
Operative 1: Obvious trap, but if we follow them, we’ll find the bastard.
Operatives 5 to 10, keep constant watch on the rear and above.
Operative 5: Understood.
Operative 8: Acknowledged.
Operative 1 follows the blood trail into a room.
The rest cautiously follow.
Operative 1: The whole place reeks of werewolf blood.
This is it.
Prepare for combat.
The footsteps stop, and the body cam footage becomes unstable.
A large black silhouette, about 3 meters tall, comes into view.
Muffled voices murmur.
Operative 2: …Am I seeing this wrong?
Operative 4: No, your eyes are fine. I see it too.
Operative 1: Quiet.
Operative 1 raises their ARX-420 rifle, aiming at the silhouette.
Operative 1: Everyone, take three steps back.
Several gunshots ring out.
The muzzle flash is suppressed by a silencer.
A sizzling sound emerges as the silver bullets hit the black silhouette—but it does not move.
Operative 1: …Hmm. Command, are you seeing this?
Command: Affirmative.
Operative 1 lowers their rifle and gestures toward the silhouette with the butt of the gun.
Operative 1: This is just a corpse.
Command: What do you mean?
We need details.
Operative 1: It’s exactly what it looks like.
Operative 1 shines a light on the silhouette and steps closer.
The corpse of IF-769-1 comes into focus.
The werewolf entity that caused the containment failure is already dead—severed cleanly in half by something incredibly sharp.
The body is in rapid decay, already losing its vertebrate characteristics.
Operative 1: With a cut this clean, the Robert Liston Unit must have done it.
They must have had a rough time…
Why the hell were we sent here?
This was a waste of time.
Operative 1 taps their communicator with a frustrated expression.
However, at this time, the only external personnel deployed were the 10 operatives of “Marijan Ballet.”
No additional personnel were mobilized from either the 4th or 6th Research Institute.
Command (urgently): Marijan Ballet, listen carefully.
We never contacted anyone else.
You were the only team deployed.
Operative 2: …What?
Command: Evacuate immediately. Return to IF-401 on the rooftop.
Murmurs arise among the operatives.
Operative 1 mutters a curse under their breath.
Operative 1: Ha… Another goddamn mess…
Command: We’ve remotely unlocked the shortest escape route.
Follow the marked path and get out now.
A hologram reappears, displaying the quickest route to the rooftop.
Operative 1: Retreat at full speed.
No time to ask questions—just move.
The team immediately turns and moves out in unison.
As they move, Operative 1 taps their communicator.
Operative 1: Command, anything suspicious?
Command: We received a report that the containment and neutralization systems for an extremely high-risk anomaly were suddenly activated but no entity was detected.
Operative 1: …Are you telling me some unknown anomaly suddenly appeared and cut that wolf in half?
And you’re just now telling me this?
Command: We only just received this information.
Operative 4: An undocumented high-risk anomaly showed up and then vanished?
That’s enough to shut the entire research facility down.
So why the hell did the 4th Research Institute cover it up?
And why didn’t Headquarters say anything…?
Operative 1 signals silence.
The team stops moving immediately.
Command: We confirm via tracking that you’ve all stopped.
What’s wrong?
Silently, Operative 1 points a laser forward.
Even in the pitch-black corridor, the operatives can see clearly with night vision.
Their breathing becomes erratic.
Operative 9: Something’s off.
IF-769-1 should have hunted for food, but that body isn’t damaged.
No bite marks, no crushing wounds…
Operative 4: …It’s not a body.
They realize.
A young girl, around 8-10 years old, stands in front of them.
Operative 1: Is she infected?
Someone, drop a silver bead.
If she reacts, we eliminate her.
A bead rolls.
Silence.
A sigh.
Operative 2: No reaction.
She’s not IF-769.
Operative 1: Command, any Code Blue alerts besides IF-769-1?
Command: Reviewing…
Only one Code Black alert was triggered today.
The alarm was canceled in seven seconds by the research director.
Operative 1:”So, this kid must be one of two things. Either they’re an innocent survivor who shouldn’t be left in such a dangerous place, or they’re the source of the threat, an unidentified ultra-high-risk anomaly. We need to proceed with extreme caution.”
Hurried footsteps and the sounds of devices activating are heard.
Later, during debriefing, Operative 1 stated that the test conducted at this moment was a simple standardized humanoid unidentified anomaly assessment test (commonly referred to as the “Old-Gen AI Drawing Test”).
Operative 2: “No twisted fingers, hair is properly attached, no extra body parts.
Visually, this is a perfectly normal human.”
Operative 6: “No signs of consciousness, but body temperature is within normal range…
Wait, what’s that under their head?
A cushion…?”
Operative 5 hums in deep thought.
Operative 5: “The thing they’re resting on… isn’t that IF-098?
We have a few of those at the 6th Research Institute.
But why isn’t it disguising itself, even when we’re watching?”
Operative 1: “Tsuchinoko… Looks like that’s what it is.”
It was confirmed that the 4th Research Institute had been housing a single IF-098 ‘Tsuchinoko’ in Sector C-17.
Researcher K, who had resided in C-17, later testified that IF-098, despite being an undeniably venomous snake, was extremely popular among the residents due to its gentle nature and round, harmless appearance.
Operative 1: “That settles it. If that kid were the monster that sliced IF-769-1 in half, they wouldn’t be clinging to an IF-098 like it was precious.”
Operative 2: “Then…?”
Operative 3 shines a flashlight.
Shortly after, Operative 1 pulls out an unused medical stretcher.
Operative 1: “They’re a survivor.”
Operative 4: “Damn… We’ve killed nearly a hundred of those wolf bastards, but this is the first time we’ve actually rescued a survivor.”
Operative 1: “Probably a Beta-class personnel’s younger sibling or daughter.
We’ll keep them on IF-401 until they regain consciousness and return them to the 4th Research Institute once we confirm their identity.
Move quickly.”
Operative 2: “What about IF-098?”
Operative 1: “Command, do you copy?”
Command: “An antidote for IF-098’s venom is available on IF-401. Prioritize a swift return.”
Operative 1: “No need to waste time separating them, then. Take both and proceed along the shortest escape route.”
The sound of the survivor being placed onto the stretcher is recorded.
The child remains motionless and silent.
For about three minutes, only footsteps can be heard.
Operative 4: “Hey… (Glass shattering) (Unclear speech)
Why is this vending machine so completely destroyed…?
Do ultra-high-risk anomalies drink soda now?”
Operative 8: “We’re pretty far from Sector C-17… That means this anomaly’s activity covers a huge range.
If this is the case, the entire 4th Research Institute could be overrun.”
Operative 1: “Ignore it. Keep moving quickly.”
Approximately 12 minutes later, the ‘Marijan Ballet’ operatives reach the 4th Research Institute rooftop.
Operative 1: “Command. ‘Marijan Ballet’ team has reached the rooftop.
All ten operatives accounted for, no injuries.
One survivor was rescued. Requesting permission to board IF-401.”
Command: “Permission granted.”
Operative 1: “All units, board IF-401.”
The ‘Marijan Ballet’ operatives head toward the entrance of IF-401.
End of Recording.
Incident Outcome:
The incident is still ongoing, so this section is left blank.
However, given that the only survivor was the child resting on IF-098 and considering that IF-098 is known for its exceptional mimicry abilities, there is now a hypothesis that IF-098 ‘Tsuchinoko’ may possess some kind of cognitive interference ability.
Note:
“I’ve spent four years studying IF-098, and it doesn’t have anything like that. I almost got excited about finally doing some real research for once. Almost.”
