The object was a black gem.

“This is an orb that contains the power you call ominous.”

“So this is your strange power…”

“With the power inside, you could use a high-level magic once. Use it wisely.”

Kairin looked at the gem again after hearing Wolf’s words.

“Oh, and just to warn you—don’t try to absorb the power into your body. Your body won’t be able to handle it.”

“Are you looking down on me?”

Kairin glared at Wolf. He shrugged and shook his head.

“No, I’m just warning you. And anyway, almost no one can absorb that power. I can’t absorb it either.”

“And about today… it’s a bit unfair. I haven’t done much, but I didn’t accomplish nothing, did I? You already gathered a lot of magic energy.”

“Can you really say you did that?”

“I came up with the idea, so I think I can say that.”

“Ridiculous.”

Kairin scoffed and dismissed his answer.

“Oh, by the way, I had something to tell you too.”

“What is it?”

“Did you see the woman you claim is a demon, Ruina, with a child?”

“Yeah.”

“The child gave orders to a monster.”

“What?”

Kairin asked, shocked.

“That child gave orders to a monster.”

“You’re lying.”

“Not at all. I saw it with my own eyes. The sandworm listened to that child’s command. How else would we have been able to capture two sandworms without any damage?”

“Well… that’s true.”

Kairin fell into thought. After a moment, she spoke.

“Alright… I’ll believe you for now. If what you said is true, with just that one piece of information, you’ve done everything you needed to.”

“Really? That makes me feel good.”

“I’m leaving.”

Wolf nodded at the voice coming from the side. 

Kairin’s footsteps began to fade, and soon they disappeared.

Another round of silence followed.

In that silence, Wolf stared at the book in front of him and softly spoke.

“Come out, the one hiding there.”

“Ah, I’ve been caught, huh?”

From the darkness, another woman appeared.

The woman who suddenly emerged from the shadows had blue hair and an elegant figure—much like Kairin.

But there was one key difference: she had a tear mark.

“You’ve been releasing your presence like that; how could I not notice?”

“He~ I thought I was hiding it quite well~”

“So… Kairin?”

“It’s Kyrin. Kairin is my sister! Are you going to keep messing up our names?”

Kyrin puffed her cheeks and said.

“Hahaha, I’m sorry.”

Wolf chuckled lightly, apologizing for messing up her name and letting it slide. Then, after a short pause, he spoke.

“You told me the location of this place, didn’t you?”

“Why do you think that?”

Kyrin narrowed her eyes and asked.

“I just have a feeling.”

“How unfair… But you were going to tell them the location soon anyway, weren’t you? Weren’t you?”

“Well, that’s true.”

Wolf nodded. She was right; he did plan to pass on the information to them.

“Then, this worked out well, didn’t it? I handled the work for you.”

Wolf didn’t answer, as if he didn’t agree with her words.

“By the way… earlier, you said something really funny, didn’t you? What? A regular believer of the Evil God Cult? You?”

“What’s wrong with that?”

At Wolf’s question, Kyrin flashed a sly smile and slowly stood up, walking toward him.

“It’s funny because you’re talking nonsense. And the reason is that you…”

With a smile still on her face, she slowly approached Wolf, who was still flipping through the pages of a book, and whispered in his ear.

“You’re not a regular believer, you’re a bishop.”

At that moment, Wolf’s expression stiffened.

“When did you notice?”

“A while ago. Why are you hiding your true identity?”

Kyrin asked, and after a brief pause, Wolf chuckled and let out a soft laugh.

“Well… It’s fun, you know? Hiding my power and pretending to be weak.”

“Are you crazy?”

Kyrin stared at him with a look of disbelief.

“Thanks for the compliment.”

“Ha… Honestly, I feel like there’s no normal person on our side, except me~”

Kyrin sighed and distanced herself from him in response to Wolf’s comment. Then, she plopped down onto a nearby chair and began flicking a gold coin.

The sound of the coin bouncing began to echo softly in the auditorium.

“What are you doing?”

“Oh, this? Just passing time.”

“Passing time, huh… Seems like something only the rich would do. By the way, where did you get that gold coin? Based on your position, you shouldn’t be able to afford something like that.”

“This? It was a gift.”

In response to Wolf’s question, Kyrin continued flicking the coin. Annoyed by the persistent sound, Wolf finally looked up from his book and turned to her. He watched the coin as it flew upward and asked her.

“Who gave it to you? Who would just give you a gold coin?”

“I can’t tell you that.”

“Why not?”

“Because I made a promise with them. This is a secret between us.”

“I see.”

Wolf seemed to lose interest in the gold coin and returned his gaze to the book.

“Yes, it’s a very deep promise.”

Kyrin smiled as she caught the falling gold coin. Then, suddenly, she seemed to remember something and said,

“Oh, by the way, that horrible-looking creature… or should I call it that? Anyway, the thing you guys created… it’s dead.”

“When did that happen?”

“Today.”

“I see. Looks like Maria didn’t manage it properly. That’s unfortunate. It was supposed to be a secret weapon.”

At Wolf’s words, Kyrin recalled the grotesque, disgusting creature’s appearance.

“That thing was a secret weapon? That disgusting thing? Ugh.”

Recalling the monster’s appearance, Kyrin made a gagging gesture, mocking him. Then, she asked,

“Why did you even make something like that? What was its purpose?”

“It was an experiment.”

Wolf answered calmly to her question. Intrigued by the word “experiment,” Kyrin asked again,

“What kind of experiment? I can tell it was a horrific failure.”

Wolf didn’t answer immediately. He paused, stopped flipping through the pages of the book, and seemed to be thinking about something. After a while, he stopped looking at the book and looked at Kyrin.

“Shall I tell you a story from long ago?”

“Go ahead.”

Kyrin nodded. Seeing this, Wolf began to speak.

“In the beginning, the gods created light from the darkness, and with it, they created day and night.”

“That’s the same old cliché I hear every day. So?”

“After dividing day and night, the gods created the first life on this empty world. In that process, they gave life a power that would drive it forward, a force we call mana.”

It was a story everyone knew. Kyrin thought. What he was saying was a well-known tale passed down through generations across the world.

“Life, created by the gods, evolved and spread in many different forms. And now, here we are. This is our origin.”

“Yeah, yeah~ So?”

“Now, here’s the question. We call the mana that shines in bright colors ‘divine power,’ and the mana that shines dark purple ‘magical power.’ The rest of the colors are called ‘pure mana.’”

Each time Wolf mentioned a type of mana, he extended a finger. Three of his fingers were now extended as he turned to Kyrin and asked,

“Do you know that if you have one of these three types of mana, it’s very hard to possess the others?”

“I know.”

Kyrin nodded. All mana is divided into three types, and they devour each other. Therefore, a person can’t possess more than one type of mana in their body. She already knew this.

“As you can see, each person can only possess one type of mana. Having more than one is impossible. According to most theological teachings, pure mana is said to be the result of not being chosen by the gods, while divine and magical powers are explained to be cursed due to their mutual rejection…”

Wolf paused for a moment before continuing.

“However, ironically, according to the doctrines of all religions, all three types of mana were created by the gods.”

“So?”

“We explain it as the fact that, on the surface, the mana rejects each other, but internally, it’s because we are mere creations of the gods.”

At that moment, Wolf extinguished a candle on the altar. Having been burning for a long time, the candle holder had melted. As soon as he blew out the candle, the auditorium was engulfed in darkness.

In the darkness, Wolf retrieved a new candlestick from below the stage. He set it up and lit the flame using magic. His movements were smooth and practiced.

Once again, a small light flickered back to life in the dark auditorium. Wolf smiled with satisfaction as he continued.

Kyrin was still listening with an indifferent expression.

However.

“I had a question here. If we, being mere creations, can only possess one type of mana, what happens if we were to possess all three?”

Silence. After Wolf’s words echoed through the auditorium, no more words were exchanged between them. They just stared at each other.

It was Kyrin who broke the silence first. She asked, almost as if to confirm.

“That’s impossible, right?”

To that, Wolf raised an eyebrow and replied with a sly grin,

“Maybe the gods are really waiting for us.”

For a moment, Kyrin stared blankly at him before suddenly bursting out into laughter.

“Hahaha! Hahahahaha! Hahahahaha!”

Her laughter, genuine and without any pretense, rang through the auditorium.

“This is absolutely priceless!”

Kyrin wiped away the tears from her eyes as she spoke to him.

“I’ll give it to you! You’re crazy.”

Wolf, still watching the woman laughing so hard, redirected his gaze to the new candle he had just lit. The candle flickered precariously.

He closed the book spread out on the podium. As he did, the cover of the book was revealed under the dim light of the candle. He gently ran his hand over the cover.

As his fingers brushed the surface, a yellow rose bloomed in its wake.

The next day, we visited the prison to release Artorius.

However…

“Well then, we should meet him first. Please open the door.”

“I’m sorry, but that is not possible.”

Things seemed to be taking a bit of a turn.
