Just like how studying medicine can’t save Dragon Kingdom’s music, can’t save Dragon Kingdom’s literature, can’t save Dragon Kingdom’s games, and certainly can’t save Dragon Kingdom’s animation.
It was Kun’er who made the vow—what does that have to do with me, Kai Shu Ren?
Poor Tom Cat was once again toyed with in the palms of those innately wicked brats.
Still, whether it was the three rejections just now or being stood up again, the fact that even Taliya could be rejected was enough to leave Kane somewhat surprised.
As far as he knew, among the female leads connected to Taliya, none had ever refused her invitation for a date.
He figured she must be talking about some random side characters who failed to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
After all, in a wish-fulfillment novel, you need a few brainless side characters to set off the protagonist’s brilliance.
That was Kane’s assessment, and since it was Taliya’s own emotional issue, he didn’t think much more about it.
However, what Kane didn’t know at this moment was that this would plant the seeds for a tangled mess of relationships with countless women in the future, a disaster that would be hard to untangle…
……
The rain was still pouring down.
Raindrops beat against the uneven ground, splashing muddy water from the potholes onto the heads of two Truth Cultists, drawing a round of low curses.
“That bitch sure knows how to hide. She still hasn’t come out? Really won’t give up until she hits rock bottom.”
“Heh, it’s nothing but the final, pointless struggle of a dying person. The moment she defiled our Lord’s Saint Relic Mengmeng, her fate was sealed.”
One of the Truth Cultists was growing impatient, while the other still felt pretty good about the situation.
After all, just as he said, Taliya’s demise was already set in stone.
“That damned rogue hero, the Saint Relic can only last for three hours at most. When time’s up, she’ll have no choice but to show herself.”
“What if she manages to hold out even longer?”
“Longer? Heh, she’s still human—she has to eat, drink, and answer nature’s call. There’s no way she can stay in there forever without eating or drinking.”
“True enough. Otherwise, she’d become the first hero in history to starve to death. Just thinking about it is hilarious.”
“Exactly, keh keh keh keh keh.”
The two Truth Cultists bantered back and forth, laughing so hard they couldn’t close their mouths.
It was as if they could already see their Lord calling to them, growing larger and larger… until He was about to cover them completely.
“Not good, it’s an attack—move!”
A sharp shout rang out, and a huge log was hurled from the sky like a falling meteor, plummeting straight toward the two.
The two Truth Cultists reacted instantly, leaping backward to dodge. But to their surprise, the falling log exploded midair, bursting into a blinding white light and transforming into tens of thousands of wooden spears.
Like a heavenly maiden scattering flowers, the spears tore through the curtain of rain, sending up a spray of muddy dust and debris.
From this sea of wooden spears emerged Kane, cloaked in black and masked.
“It’s that bitch’s lackey.”
The two immediately recognized Kane.
By the way, since Taliya, the new-generation hero, openly preferred women over men, this was no surprise in the kingdom.
So naturally, everyone just assumed that the person following Taliya—Kane—was a woman as well.
“Tch, what a bunch of idiots.”
As Kane landed, he cursed under his breath.
A true man like him, who could hold out for two and a half hours straight, was always mistaken for a woman. Absolutely ridiculous.
Kane glanced at the Truth Cultists charging at him, but instead of acting immediately, he crouched down and plunged both hands into the muddy puddle at his feet.
“Cleanse.”
With those two crisp words, dazzling white light burst from Kane’s palms. In the blink of an eye, the filthy, muddy puddle became crystal clear.
The impurities were all washed away by Kane’s Cleanse Magic, and the ground’s uneven surface was revealed once more. The two Truth Cultists, still charging forward, didn’t notice a thing and stepped right into the pit, both face-planting into the mud.
What just happened?
The two Truth Cultists lay sprawled in the pit, utterly bewildered.
“Hmph, don’t underestimate daily life magic, you bastards.”
Kane puffed out his chest and raised his head, letting out a proud snort.
This is what they mean by: there are no useless spells, only useless spellcasters.
“Alright, next up is…”
Having temporarily restrained the two Truth Cultists, Kane let out a light breath. At that moment, the Scarred Man came stomping through the muddy ground toward him.
“First Rank?”
The Scarred Man gave Kane a quick once-over, frowning.
He had thought that Kane, who so easily restrained his two subordinates, must have been someone he’d misjudged. But to his surprise, Kane was actually a bona fide weakling.
“Cleanse Magic… So that’s how it is. Heh, interesting.”
With the experience and strength of a Fourth Ranker, the Scarred Man easily saw through Kane’s trick.
It was the first time he’d seen Cleanse Magic used like this.
Not limiting a fixed spell to the usual way of thinking.
This is exactly the kind of talent the Tower of Truth needs.
But, what a pity.
“The moment you entangled yourself with that heretic defiler, you lost the chance to receive the Lord’s favor.”
As his words fell, the Scarred Man raised his hand, and a magic circle instantly formed.
Several Lightning Spears, forged of pure lightning, shot out in a blinding flash, racing straight toward Kane.
Kane was about to be swallowed by the torrent of light.
—Bang!
With the sound of metal clashing, a pitch-black sword, slicing through stars and night alike, cleaved down. Taliya, wielding the Sword of Starry Night, struck, splitting the Lightning Spear clean in two.
—Boom!
The severed Lightning Spear exploded with a thunderous roar.
A cloud of dust and flying rocks erupted.
Taking advantage of the lingering smoke, Taliya charged at the Scarred Man, sword in hand, leaving afterimages in her wake.
Swift as the wind, fast as lightning—when faced with a cheat-level hero capable of fighting above her rank, levels were nothing but numbers. The Scarred Man was immediately forced onto the defensive.
Her dazzling and fierce swordplay left Kane, watching from the sidelines, unable to resist applauding and shouting:
“Amazing!”
The villainous brats are there to cackle, while the main character goes on a rampage.
Honestly, Kane was truly envious of Taliya’s strength. Unfortunately, as a villainous brat, he could never hope to reach such heights.
Still, even a small cog has its role to play.
In the midst of the fight, Taliya and Kane exchanged a glance.
In just that instant, it was as if they’d communicated perfectly without words.
Kane immediately ran off in the direction opposite the Sacred Wall.
The Scarred Man wanted to mock him for running off like an idiot, but as Kane drew closer to a spot he recognized, the Scarred Man’s expression suddenly froze.
No—this man is going to destroy the Sacred Wall!
The Scarred Man instantly gave up tangling with Taliya and turned to chase after Kane.
“Don’t you dare mess with Kun’er! Stay right where you are, you hear me?!”
Taliya stabbed the Sword of Starry Night into the ground, and three black lines instantly spread out.
Including the two who’d just climbed out of the pit, all three were bound in place by the Sword of Starry Night’s Shadow Binding.
“Taliya!”
The Scarred Man’s eyes went red with rage:
“You think you can rest easy just because you’ve trapped me? I don’t believe you can keep me restrained forever!”
Taliya snorted proudly:
“Of course I know I can’t keep you restrained forever. And Kun’er alone can’t hold those two for long either. That’s why we have to destroy the Sacred Wall.”
As long as the Sacred Wall was destroyed, the restriction on the Sword of Starry Night’s stealth would be lifted, and the two could escape smoothly.
And the only one who could destroy the Sacred Wall was Kane, who possessed memories from the game.
“You heretics, how dare you defile our god! You will all be punished by Divine Punishment!”
Led by the Scarred Man, the three Truth Cultists all flushed with anger, hurling curses at Taliya.
But their words hit Taliya like puffs of cotton candy—completely harmless, even making her feel even better.
This was exactly the reaction she wanted to see.
However—
“Haha… Hahahahaha…”
Suddenly, the Truth Cultists stopped cursing. Instead, they each covered their faces and lowered their heads, a chilling, sinister laughter leaking out from between their trembling fingers.
Taliya frowned, feeling a bad premonition. “What are you laughing at?”
“Of course we’re laughing at the ignorance of you heretics.” The Scarred Man gripped his trembling head tightly, his head bending at a perfect 90°, his twisted expression blooming into an even more maniacal grin:
“How could we possibly do nothing in the face of a miracle, leaving our god exposed and unprotected in this filthy world? That would be an affront to our Lord! Young hero, don’t be afraid to hear this: your old flame is about to have her filthy, sinful soul washed clean and return to our Lord’s embrace!”
“Feel the Divine Plague from our Lord, you foolish heretics!”
“Wahahahaha!!!!”
