Chapter 16: Silly Girl  

After hearing Mother He’s words, Lin Guiming seemed to want to protest, but she didn’t give him the chance.  

She hurriedly ushered the two into He Wanying’s room.  

“Wanying…”  

Before leaving, she called out to her daughter.  

When He Wanying looked at her, Mother He made a “go for it” gesture.  

He Wanying seemed to understand something, her face flushing red instantly, showing a mix of nervousness and uncertainty.  

“Alright, I won’t disturb you two.  

Rest early…”  

Mother He said, turning to leave, not forgetting to close the door behind her.  

“Clank—clank…”  

“Hey, hey, closing the door is one thing, but locking it with a chain?!”  

Lin Guiming stared at the commotion outside the door, too stunned to speak.  

Was she that eager to hand over her daughter?  

Meanwhile, He Wanying was completely speechless.

“There should be spare bedding in your room, right?  

I’ll sleep on the floor, or maybe just cultivate all night…”  

“No… that won’t do!”  

He Wanying stood up abruptly, but her nerves were so tense that she didn’t notice the bed frame above her.  

She smashed her head against it, immediately crouching down in pain, clutching her swollen forehead as tears welled up in her eyes.  

Lin Guiming watched her utterly foolish action, torn between laughter and exasperation.  

He stepped forward, patted her shoulder, and said, “Look at how clumsy you are.  

Come on, let me see how bad the injury is.”  

“You… you’re the clumsy one…”  

Whether it was the pain or not, He Wanying’s words lacked any conviction.  

Though she said that, she obediently lifted her head, brushing aside her bangs to show Lin Guiming the wound.  

Lin Guiming examined it closely, even reaching out to touch it lightly, eliciting a pained yelp from her—  

“Ow!”  

Thinking he was just checking the wound, He Wanying flinched instinctively but quickly returned to her obedient posture.  

“It’s nothing serious…”  

Lin Guiming shrugged.  

“I’ll put some medicine on it, and it’ll be fine right away.”  

He took out a small piece of white ointment, dabbed a bit with his fingers, and carefully applied it to He Wanying’s forehead.  

Compared to the brutal injuries in the cultivation world—severed limbs or even heads—Lin Guiming wasn’t used to dealing with such minor wounds.  

In fact, he was overreacting.

He Wanying let out a small whimper, her face showing a hint of grievance.  

“Hus… Senior Brother, you’re bullying me…”  

At least she hadn’t forgotten to call him Senior Brother.
