Christine had a piece of toast in her mouth as she sat on the hospital bed, drying her hair.
Meanwhile, Li Yiming was busy hustling around the laboratory.
After all, even though Christine’s body had recovered quite well, she still wasn’t fit for intense physical activity.
And as the poor, unlucky man in the room, all the heavy lifting and sorting naturally fell on him.
Box after box of food and clean water was carried by Li Yiming from the warehouse and stacked in front of Christine.
“Ghostie, is this a lab or a convenience store?”
Li Yiming couldn’t help but complain as he looked at the pile of supplies that was quickly forming into a small mountain.
And that wasn’t even all of it!
There was still a huge stash in the small storage room in the corner of the lab.
Looking at the utterly speechless Li Yiming, Christine—still sitting on the hospital bed—gave a soft chuckle.
“Heh~”
“This is not just a biopharmaceutical analysis lab,” she said with arms confidently crossed over her chest.
“During a biohazard outbreak, this place also serves as a civil defense facility.”
“The warehouse is stocked with enough food and water to feed fifty people for seven days without worry!”
Christine said proudly.
But soon, she let out a long sigh.
Even though the lab had enough resources to support so many people…
In the end, she was the only one who survived when disaster struck.
Taking a bite of toast, Christine jumped down from the bed and walked over to help Li Yiming.
They needed to pick out food to take on the road.
After all, there were dozens of boxes of supplies.
Trying to carry them all—even with a pickup truck—would be tough.
And even if they could manage to carry it all, walking around with so many supplies in this apocalyptic world…
They’d instantly become the most eye-catching target around!
One had to understand: zombies weren’t the only threat in this world anymore.
Strutting around with such a large stash of resources would definitely draw attention from other survivor teams!
And what awaited them then would be endless conflict and looting.
So: traveling light was a must.
The two of them carefully selected the most compact, most filling food from more than ten boxes.
While sorting, Christine sighed.
“If only it were like in those games…”
“A tiny backpack that can hold more than a truck ever could…”
She mumbled as she organized the items.
Li Yiming glanced sideways at her.
“Actually, something like that does exist in this world,” he said flatly.
Christine burst into laughter at his words.
“You’ve been reading too much sci-fi, haven’t you?”
“Stuff like that only exists in novels. Even the top-tier quantum space technology of the United Government hasn’t gotten that far yet.”
Christine said with a smile.
As a top-tier researcher herself, she viewed Li Yiming’s statement as pure fantasy.
However, to her surprise…
Li Yiming looked completely serious.
“No, I’m being real.”
“Spatial storage items really do exist in this world.”
He raised a finger and wagged it at Christine.
This wasn’t some empty brag or made-up tale.
It was part of the comic’s worldbuilding!
As everyone knows, after killing zombies, there’s a chance they drop crystal cores.
And among the various elemental crystal cores, the spatial-attribute ones work just like those magical storage tools in novels!
As long as the spatial zombie core is kept close to the body, the user can activate it with a simple thought!
Just like in the stories, the core can absorb and store objects at will.
The higher the quality of the spatial zombie core, the larger the storage space inside.
The top-tier Ninth Rank spatial zombie cores have enough space to hold an entire soccer field’s worth of gear!
If non-attribute zombie cores are considered the best for energy cultivation among ability users…
Then spatial-attribute zombie cores are, without question, the most practical and valuable of them all!
Li Yiming patiently explained the miraculous uses of the spatial-attribute zombie cores.
After hearing it all, Christine clutched her head in disbelief, her face full of agony.
“Are you kidding me?! A stone produced inside a zombie’s brain has an independent pocket dimension?!”
Christine’s worldview was collapsing.
Everything she had learned in basic physics and science was starting to fall apart.
Li Yiming looked at Christine’s pained expression and sighed.
He knew that, for someone like Christine — a dedicated scientist — it would take some time to accept the rules of this comic-book-like world.
Calmly, he finished packing the sorted supplies, organizing them into two large hiking backpacks.
On the other side, Christine leaned against the wall with one hand on her forehead.
She seemed to be slowly coming to terms with reality.
She didn’t actually think Li Yiming was lying to her.
Someone who knew the top-level secrets of the Umbrella Corporation… the words from his mouth carried weight.
After a long silence, she finally let out a deep sigh.
This was the apocalypse, after all.
She had awakened supernatural powers herself.
What else was really that unbelievable?
Christine let out a soft laugh and shook her head.
Meanwhile, Li Yiming had finished packing all the gear.
After the battle with the Licker, he barely had any usable weapons left.
Now empty-handed, all he could rely on were the two large backpacks full of supplies.
Christine had also finished blow-drying her hair and tied it up in a ponytail.
She changed into a high-necked, sleeveless cream-colored sweater and a pair of denim shorts for easy movement.
Compared to her mature and intellectual office attire from the previous day, today’s look was far more casual — yet sharp and efficient.
Seeing that Li Yiming had already finished packing, Christine didn’t waste any time.
She took off her high heels and slipped her black stocking-clad feet into a pair of camel-colored combat boots.
Then she picked up the backpack she had prepared earlier, filled with lab documents and research data.
She was ready to go.
Li Yiming glanced at Christine, who was all set to depart — and frowned.
“…What’s wrong? Do I have something on my face?”
Christine asked, feeling a bit self-conscious under his stare.
“No,” Li Yiming replied casually.
“I just honestly think… you’re too pretty.”
His words made Christine’s heart suddenly race.
Just as she was struggling to think of a response to Li Yiming’s unexpected flirtation…
His next sentence instantly brought her back down to earth.
“You’re so pretty, you’ll become a target out there.”
“I think… you’d better put your lab coat back on.”
Li Yiming stroked his chin and said this seriously.
“Tch…”
Christine smacked her lips in frustration.
Though she was clearly annoyed, she still obediently took off her backpack and slipped back into her white lab coat.
“Can we leave now??”
Christine asked, full of resentment as she adjusted the coat.
