Su Yu struggled in the darkness for a long time.
There were always faint calls in his ears, and even crying sounds, not loud, but they always seemed to grip his heart.
Who was crying?
Su Yu tried hard to find out, but there was only an endless, spreading darkness.
Su Yu felt like he had walked for a very long time, walking and walking without end.
He was so tired he wanted to stop, but that faint, lingering voice always tugged at him, urging him to go forward quickly.
Someone was waiting for him.
Just as Su Yu was almost exhausted, a blurry light finally appeared ahead.
Su Yu excitedly ran towards where the light came from.
***
In the morning, the caregiver pulled up the curtains and opened the room’s windows to air it out.
Bright, non-blinding sunlight streamed in from outside.
An occasional breeze gently rustled the curtains.
Peaceful, calm.
On the bed near the window, the frail young man’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and his eyeballs rapidly moved under his thin eyelids.
—I found you, Su Yu, in the darkness, smiled and whispered to the person curled up and crying,
Don’t be sad.
Wait for me to find you.
His tightly closed eyes slowly opened a crack, then closed again, stimulated by the glaring light.
Su Yu let out a soft groan.
The caregiver turned around when he heard the movement, stunned for a few seconds, then quickly pulled the curtains shut and pressed the call bell beside the bed.
The doctor, who had been staying at the Luo family’s house, heard the bell and rushed upstairs with his medical bag.
The curtains were drawn, blocking the strong light. Su Yu felt much better.
After adapting to the dim light in the room, he finally slowly opened his eyes.
The caregiver nervously stood by, his voice excited, “Young Master Su, how are you feeling now?”
Su Yu gently tilted his head, blinked, and a slight curve appeared at the corner of his mouth.
His voice was hoarse, “Not bad, just a little weak.”
“It’s normal to be weak. It’s good that you’re awake,” the doctor, who had just entered the room, said with a smile.
“Is there anything uncomfortable?”
Su Yu smiled and shook his head, “Just… my throat is a little dry.”
The doctor nodded and began to systematically examine Su Yu.
Su Yu had been in a coma for so long, and at that time, all his bodily functions had almost dropped to their lowest.
If he hadn’t had a thread of life left, the hospital would have issued a death certificate.
He never expected to wake up now.
The doctor sighed inwardly, Young Master Su’s case could be considered a miracle in medical history.
Perhaps he could open a research topic specifically on it.
Thoughts aside, the doctor’s movements were not slow.
After efficiently examining Su Yu, the doctor let out a long breath and smiled at the anxious crowd gathered at the door, “Young Master Su currently has no major physical problems. He’s just woken up, so his body might be weak for a while. He’ll be fine with some nourishment.”
“Good, as long as he’s okay.”
Luo Xiaoman nodded, her eyes red-rimmed, her voice choked.
“Mom, Uncle.”
Su Yu called out hoarsely.
Although he had just seen them a few days ago, seeing them again now, Su Yu felt an overwhelming soreness in his eyes.
“Yes,” Luo Xiaoman responded joyfully, taking two excited steps forward.
Then, remembering something, she looked at the doctor by the bedside for confirmation.
“Come in and see him,” the doctor waved his hand, smiling, “But don’t talk for too long. Let him rest more.”
Luo Xiaoman then strode to Su Yu’s side, touched her son’s pale face, and said with heartache, “Look at you, you’ve gotten so thin after sleeping for so long.”
Su Yu smiled obediently, “I’ll gain it back after a few days of recovery.”
“Right, I forgot! I’ll tell the auntie to make you some soup right away.”
Luo Xiaoman excitedly stood up, ready to call someone at the door.
Luo Jianyuan pulled back his overly excited sister, helplessly saying, “Don’t cause more trouble. A-Yu just woke up; he can’t handle heavy nourishment yet.”
Though he said that, his gaze at Su Yu was also filled with relief.
Su Yu looked amusedly at his mother, who was so happy she didn’t know what to do.
He tried to reach out and hold her hand, a somewhat pitiful expression on his face, “Mom, stay and talk with me.”
As a doting mother, Luo Xiaoman instantly behaved herself, quietly holding her son’s hand and sitting by the bedside, starting her nagging.
Su Yu listened to his mother’s incessant chatter, a faint smile on his face.
The others, seeing them happily chatting, quietly exited the room, closing the door behind them to give the mother and son space.
Seeing everyone leave, Luo Xiaoman hesitated as she looked at her son, deliberating, “Son, you… why did you suddenly change back after being fine?”
Su Yu thought of what happened the night before, slightly lowered his eyes, and whispered, “Qin Shou and I… were in a car accident.”
Luo Xiaoman’s heart tightened, and she unconsciously gripped Su Yu’s hand tighter, her gaze at her son filled with worry.
Why is he so unlucky?
It’s always a car accident.
So worrying.
Feeling the pressure on his hand, Su Yu squeezed back, gently comforting his mother, “I guess it was a blessing in disguise, it’s just, I don’t know… how Qin Shou is doing.”
Saying this, he remembered the faint calls and crying in his dream.
Su Yu was a little worried.
If I died, would the owner… cry?
The thought was almost unbearable.
Su Yu blinked.
Although he felt very sorry for his owner, the image still made him want to laugh.
Luo Xiaoman tidied Su Yu’s messy cowlick, and seeing the changing expressions on her son’s face, she asked confusedly, “What are you thinking about? You’re smiling and frowning at the same time.”
Su Yu lightly coughed.
He still couldn’t let go of the previous dream.
He whispered, trying to discuss it with his mother: “Mom, I… want to go see Qin Shou.”
“When you’re better, you should go see him. After all, he raised you for so long, he treated you even better than your own mother.”
Her voice carried a slight hint of sourness at the end, after all, her fluffy son had been raised by someone else for so long.
She had to be a little unhappy.
“No, I mean, I want to go see him now,” Su Yu slowly explained to Luo Xiaoman, “He’s always taken great care of me. Something happened to me, so he must be very sad. And I lost consciousness when I was hit, so I don’t know how he is now.”
The more he thought about it, the more Su Yu felt that his owner might genuinely be hiding in a corner, sniffling.
His heart immediately clenched.
After all, his owner was so sentimental; it was entirely possible he’d hide and cry if his beloved pet died.
His own man, he’s got to comfort him himself.
“No,” Luo Xiaoman firmly rejected her son’s request.
Then, she thought her tone might have been too harsh and, worried about hurting her son’s delicate heart, she gently added, “You just woke up. The doctor said you need more rest. I’ll pass on your message first. It’s not too late to go see him once you’re feeling better.”
Su Yu was incredibly anxious.
His vulnerable owner might be hiding in a corner, crying all alone.
The thought alone was pitiful.
Moreover, he absolutely had to go see him first to confirm his owner was okay before he could relax.
He hadn’t thought much when he rushed out, and as a result, his cat body was gone.
If something had still happened to his owner, that would be a huge loss.
Looking at his mother’s stern gaze, Su Yu’s eyes instantly reddened.
He sniffled, looking pitifully at his mother, “But… if I don’t see him myself, I won’t be at ease. He’s the best person to me besides you and Uncle.”
Luo Xiaoman’s heart was touched by her son’s words.
Su Yu had always been sensible since he was little, never actively asking for anything.
Now that he was sick, he rarely made a request, and she couldn’t even fulfill it.
Looking at her son’s red eyes, Luo Xiaoman’s heart ached.
She quickly agreed, “Alright, alright, I’ll take you tonight, just don’t cry anymore.”
Su Yu secretly chuckled.
This tactic always worked best on his mom.
His face, however, still wore the pitiful look of a little white rabbit, “Then it’s a deal, we’ll go this afternoon.”
Luo Xiaoman had no choice with her son.
She called the doctor over again and quietly asked for things to note.
***
Waking up after a nap, it was already noon.
Su Yu felt his strength had recovered quite a bit, so he tried to slowly prop up his upper body with his arms to sit up.
It took him a long time, and though he was breathless from the effort, he managed to sit up.
Su Yu wiped the sweat from his forehead and smiled somewhat happily.
It’s good to be alive.
A warm, nourishing porridge was already stewing in the kitchen, and a faint aroma wafted up.
Su Yu swallowed, feeling his stomach rumble.
Reaching out, he pressed the call bell by the bed and rested, leaning against the headboard.
Luo Xiaoman came up with the porridge, looking radiant, as if she had grown a few years younger.
“I knew you’d probably be waking up soon. The porridge is ready. Are you hungry?”
“Hungry.”
Su Yu nodded, then his eyes lit up as he looked at the bowl of porridge.
Luo Xiaoman was amused by her son’s eager look.
She placed the tray on the bedside table, holding the bowl with one hand and a spoon with the other, excitedly preparing to feed her son.
Su Yu, whose stomach was rumbling: …
Su Yu stammered, “Mom, I’ll… I’ll do it myself.”
“What are you shy about? I used to feed you like this when you were little,” Luo Xiaoman glared at her son.
He was so cute when he was little, he’d even cuddle up and ask me to feed him.
Su Yu was momentarily choked.
He could only accept his mother’s feeding silently, his ears turning red.
Being fed at this age, it feels so shameful!
***
After harmoniously finishing the porridge, Su Yu lay on the bed with a bulging stomach, feeling the warmth spread through his limbs.
He suddenly felt full of energy and began to make a request, “Mom, I want to go see Qin Shou this afternoon.”
Luo Xiaoman, who was clearing the dishes, turned back at the sound and glared at her “foolish” son, as if ten jars of old vinegar had overturned in her heart, feeling very sour, “He only raised you for two months, and he’s already closer to you than your own mother. You can’t stop thinking about him for a moment.”
Su Yu grinned playfully, “How is that the same? You’re my real mom, no one is closer than you!”
Luo Xiaoman was coaxed into happiness by her son and finally relented, “Alright, you rest first. I’ll have the driver take you later tonight.”
“Okay.”
Su Yu nodded, smiling.
