On the morning of May 2, 2068, all was silent.
A faint glow emerged from the eastern horizon, cautiously seeping into the pale blue sky.
A police car roared down the highway, shattering the city’s tranquility.
It sped along without the slightest pause, its engine groaning under the strain of breakneck speed.
“Captain, red light ahead!”
“Quit nagging! Do you think we have time for traffic lights? We’re after the world’s most wanted criminal!”
Behind the wheel was a young woman called Captain, dressed in a sleek leather police uniform, her long, shapely legs encased in black stockings, her high boots firmly pressed on the accelerator with no intention of slowing down.
The girl beside her, apparently her teammate, was clearly struggling with the captain’s speed, clutching her mouth to suppress nausea.
“Captain, you don’t need to rush like this. The fugitive’s already been caught.”
“Too naive! I’ve been chasing him for five years—I know him well. Even a second’s delay, and he could slip away!”
The captain’s delicate, fair face was set with a grave expression, her brows furrowed without a moment’s ease.
Her teammate, however, muttered with a hint of disdain, “It’s not that dramatic. If he’s that good, would he even get caught? I think you just want to race…”
The captain’s phoenix-like eyes narrowed as she snapped, “What did you say?”
The teammate quickly straightened up, “I said there’s a curve ahead!”
“No need for you to tell me!”
“Ahh!”
With a flick of her black leather-gloved hands on the steering wheel, accompanied by her teammate’s scream, the police car veered off its normal path at high speed, executing a stylish drift that left a piercing screech and long tire marks on the road.
The teammate knew her captain, nicknamed the “Car Killer,” would soon face another scolding from her aunt for wrecking yet another police car.
And she, the teammate, would be the first to suffer—this was a brand-new car!
The police car soon arrived at its destination: a towering skyscraper surrounded by heavily armed soldiers, clearly a heavily guarded site.
The captain was the first to leap out, striding toward the building while coolly adjusting her uniform.
Her teammate, left behind, stumbled out and collapsed, unable to keep up—she finally vomited.
After throwing up, she noticed the male guards at the entrance staring at her.
She sighed, smacking her lips, “Ugh, as a young woman in her prime, it’s really embarrassing to be seen like this by men.”
Wiping her mouth, she put on a pitiful expression and cooed to the officers at the gate, “Oh, dear officers, I’ve got things to do, so I’ll leave the cleanup to you, mwah!”
After saying those spine-chilling words and throwing in a heart gesture, she hurried inside to catch up with the captain, leaving the guards dumbfounded.
The two officers exchanged glances.
“What do we do? That’s the nth person to puke from riding with the captain.”
“What can we do? Clean it up, or we’ll get chewed out by the chief.”
“Fair point… Well, at least that girl was kinda cute.”
The officers’ cleanup is a story for later.
For now, let’s focus on the captain.
Upon entering, she was greeted by an officer.
“Captain, you got here fast.”
“Cut the chatter. What’s the situation? How’d you catch him?”
The officer hesitated, as if reluctant to speak.
Urged by the captain’s glare, he finally answered.
“We didn’t catch him… He… He turned himself in.”
“He turned himself in!?”
The captain’s incredulous shout echoed, her cherry lips parting in shock to reveal pearly white teeth, startling her teammate who had just caught up.
The officer himself could hardly believe it.
“Yes, he surrendered.”
A top international fugitive, wanted for five years and untouchable by the police, surrendering out of the blue—it was unthinkable.
As she hurried along, the captain mused, “What’s this guy plotting now… Is he under control?”
The male officer nodded.
“He’s secured in the highest-security cell.”
The captain shook her head, her brows knitting tightly.
“Not enough. Call in the Time-Space Counter-Terrorism Special Forces. I don’t have the authority, so say it’s my aunt’s order. I’ll take the blame.”
The officer blinked.
“Is that necessary? This is headquarters—it’s secure.”
The captain’s glare silenced him, and he scurried off.
She quickened her pace to the elevator, her teammate shouting, “Captain, wait for me!” as she followed.
They reached the cell, gave brief instructions to the guard outside, and opened the door with a press of a button.
“Got your gun?” the captain asked her teammate before entering.
The teammate paused, touching her waist. “Yes.”
“Safety off. If he makes the slightest move, shoot his… leg.”
The captain hesitated when specifying the target.
“Understood!”
Nodding, the captain stepped inside, her teammate close behind.
Inside, the captain saw the familiar man handcuffed to a chair.
He was about 30, not exactly handsome but refined, with a scruffy stubble on his chin that gave him a slightly unkempt look.
Yet his smile was surprisingly gentle.
“This guy’s the top international fugitive?” the teammate thought. “He looks so gentle—not at all like the legendary criminal. Not super handsome, but he’s got style. My type.”
If the captain knew her lovesick teammate was at it again, she’d have given her a scolding.
But her focus was entirely on the man.
Her sharp eyes tracked his every move as she sat across from him.
“It really is you.”
The man glanced at her and chuckled.
“Captain Su, new haircut?”
She instinctively touched her shoulder-length hair and said coldly, “Yes. Makes it easier to catch you.”
Unfazed by her threat, he studied her closely, making her slightly uncomfortable before offering, “Hmm, you were stunning with long hair, but short hair suits you too—clean and sharp. I like it.”
Flustered by his teasing, the normally composed captain blushed, slammed the table, and stood, shouting, “I don’t need your opinion, and I definitely don’t need your approval!”
Her teammate blinked, rarely seeing her cool-headed captain so rattled.
“Captain?”
Hearing her teammate, Captain Su realized her outburst.
“Damn it, I lost my cool again. Every time I see this cunning guy, it happens. I can’t let him lead me by the nose, or I’ll fall for his tricks.”
Regaining her composure, she coughed to cover her embarrassment and sat back down, though a faint blush lingered on her beautiful face.
“Why’d you turn yourself in?”
“Why? What else could it be?” The man shrugged, grinning. “You’ve been after me for five years. Don’t you know?”
“Of course I know. Leaking state secrets, endangering public safety, disrupting the order of time and space—any one of those is enough to lock you up for life.” Captain Su knew him inside out, his file practically memorized. She slapped the table, leaning in to meet his gaze, her piercing eyes searching his face for any hint. “Don’t try to fool me. You’ve got a scheme behind this surrender!”
“What scheme could I have?” He jangled his handcuffs and gestured outside. “I’m like this. Even a god couldn’t escape, let alone in front of the great Captain Su.”
Yet he remained calm, giving her no clues. She leaned back, silent, her gut telling her it wasn’t that simple.
Seeing the captain quiet, her teammate spoke up. “Regarding your charges, do you plead guilty?”
“Oh? A new, pretty teammate?” The man turned to her, smiling. “I knew it. If you’d brought beauties like her sooner, I might’ve surrendered earlier.”
“Uh? T-Thank you…” Flustered by the compliment, the young teammate stammered.
“Don’t chat with him. Get him to sign the confession!” the captain barked.
“Yes. Here’s your confession. If you plead guilty, sign it.”
“Guilty? Why not? You’ve got all the evidence. Denying it would be pointless.” The man chuckled, picking up the pen.
The teammate began explaining the process. “Given the severity and impact of your crimes, your case may be reviewed by the International Time-Space Administration. You have the right to a lawyer, but considering your…”
“Hey, beauty, I’m not great with words. What does this part say?” He interrupted, pointing at the confession.
Annoyed, the teammate pouted. “Can’t you wait? This is important. If you interrupt, I’ll have to start over.”
“Sorry, sorry, I don’t know your rules.”
“Fine… Where?”
“Here. I can’t read it.” He leaned over, pointing at a section.
The teammate, unable to see clearly from across, walked to his side. “There shouldn’t be anything complicated here. Where?”
The captain sensed danger. “Careful! Don’t go near him!”
“Huh? Ahh!!”
With the teammate’s scream, the man and captain moved simultaneously. He lunged toward the teammate, but the captain was faster. Her slender frame somehow summoned immense strength, grabbing her teammate’s collar and yanking her back.
The man missed, his puckered lips lingering in the air, disappointment clear on his face.
“You okay!?” the captain asked urgently, clearly concerned.
Shaken, the teammate stammered, “I-I’m fine… Was he… trying to kiss me?”
Furious, the captain’s face reddened as she swung at the man across the table. “You pervert!”
Unexpectedly, her hand didn’t connect. The man caught her wrist mid-air.
Her eyes widened. “Where are your cuffs?”
He flashed a sly grin, revealing a key in his other hand.
The teammate gasped, patting herself and realizing, “My key! He stole my key!”
“Pity,” the man said shamelessly. “If not for you, I could’ve stolen a kiss. Captain Su, you’re as sharp as ever.”
The captain’s shock lasted only a moment before she smirked coldly. “If you know how good I am, you should also know you can’t escape me!”
“Really?” He smiled nonchalantly.
Before she could respond, a deafening roar erupted, and her face paled. “Oh no! Get down!!”
The man released her wrist. She didn’t bother pursuing him, instead grabbing her stunned teammate and diving out the door.
They crouched for a while, but nothing happened.
“Captain?”
“Damn it! We’ve been tricked!!”
She spun around to look back inside.
The man, unhurried, pulled a small device from under the table—the source of the roaring sound. He laughed, “What? Thought it was a missile? No way… I’d be dead too—Oof!!”
Before he could finish, the wall behind him collapsed, debris striking his head and knocking him down.
A stunning, cold woman in a maid outfit with white stockings leapt into the room from the breach, glaring at the captain and her teammate.
“Hey, can’t you be more careful!? You almost killed me!” The man scrambled up from the rubble, yelling at the maid.
“Hmph!” The maid snorted, ignoring him.
“Is that how you treat your boss!?”
As the farce unfolded, everyone else froze. Only the captain reacted swiftly, drawing her gun while ordering her teammate, “Shoot! He’s escaping!”
Escape? They were on the 40-something floor!
Though skeptical, the teammate didn’t hesitate, drawing her gun and firing at the man’s legs alongside the captain.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Five shots—three from the captain, two from the teammate. Yet none hit the man. Not because their aim was off—both were elite marksmen, handpicked to catch this criminal, with near-perfect accuracy. How could they miss at this range?
Looking closely, the maid held a glowing lightsaber, faint smoke rising from its blade. At her feet, clad in white stockings and heels, lay five bullet casings.
“A lightsaber!? She blocked all the bullets!?” the teammate gasped.
The captain frowned at the maid, knowing she was the man’s subordinate, a master swordswoman.
The man whistled, clapping. “Your swordsmanship’s gotten even better.”
“Let’s go,” the maid said.
“Alright, alright. Man, what a spineless boss I am,” he sighed, then leapt backward out of the room, plummeting.
“He jumped!?” the teammate shrieked. “We’re on the 40-something floor!”
As she spoke, a gust of wind hit, and a helicopter rose from below the breach. The man, now lounging inside, looked smug.
“How’s he not shredded!?” the teammate blurted.
“Don’t underestimate that pilot. They probably tilted the chopper just in time,” the captain said. “And watch out for arrows!”
Arrows?
Before the teammate could react, the captain shouted, “Shoot!! Stop him!”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
More shots, all blocked by the maid standing at the breach.
“Where’s the Time-Space Counter-Terrorism team I called!?” the captain demanded.
“No word yet! They should be here by now!”
From afar, the man chuckled lazily, infuriatingly casual. “No need to wait. The guy you sent to call them is probably still out cold. Where’d you stash him?”
That was to the maid.
She retreated to the helicopter, still watching the captain, and said coldly, “In the bathroom.”
“That’s harsh! Are you a demon!?” the man clutched his face in mock agony.
“Wasn’t that your order!?” the maid snapped.
“Oh, right, it was. Hey, pilot lady, pull the chopper back. Don’t let this crazy woman fool you—she’s gearing up to charge.”
“Got it,” came a gentle voice from the helicopter. Though the captain couldn’t see her, she knew it was another of the man’s accomplices.
Her eyes narrowed, and she surged forward.
But then, a flash of cold light made the teammate flinch and shut her eyes.
The captain, unfazed, deflected the incoming projectile with a fist.
The light embedded itself in the wall. The teammate opened her eyes to see an arrow—her captain had punched an arrow out of the air!
“You crazy woman, still as fierce as ever,” the man’s voice called, accompanied by applause.
“Who’re you calling crazy!? You wanna die!?” The captain, her plan exposed, clenched her fists and sighed.
The arrow wasn’t meant to harm—it was to buy time for the helicopter to pull away. Realizing she couldn’t stop him, she gave up the chase.
“You were really gonna charge!?” the teammate gasped, speechless.
The captain’s eyes locked on the man, her lips pursed in frustration. “What was this surrender stunt about? Showing off?”
“Of course not. Don’t let my act fool you—I’m nervous as hell facing you. Showing up here is a risk. Why would I do it just to show off?” He shrugged helplessly.
“Then what?” The captain was now certain he had a bigger scheme.
“Hmm… Can’t say. Let’s just say, keeping you occupied was my main goal.” He waved. “You’ll figure it out soon enough. See you later, cute Captain. Say hi to your lovely aunt for me.”
With that, he was gone.
Watching him leave, the captain surveyed the wrecked cell and turned to her teammate. “You okay?”
“Oh… That guy’s so cool,” the teammate swooned, ignoring her captain.
The captain sighed, shaking her head. Here we go again…
“Stop swooning. That guy’s tangled with who-knows-how-many women. I don’t get what’s so great about a creep like him.” She tapped her teammate’s forehead. “He’s likely plotting something. Check the room thoroughly for anything odd. We can’t let our guard down with him.”
“Got it,” the teammate nodded.
Just as she finished giving orders, the captain’s phone rang.
“Hello, Aunt. Ugh, that guy’s too slippery—he just escaped… Huh? Why do you sound relieved? My imagination? Okay… What’s up? What? My sister’s missing!? When? Just now!? No wonder he said he surrendered to stall me! Is he after her!? Why are you laughing? …Don’t worry? She’ll be fine? How do you know? Okay… Okay… I’ll hang up now.”
Slamming her foot down, the captain glared at the sky where the man had vanished, cursing, “That bastard!!”
