Two hours later, two professors from St. Antiona, Professor An Xiaoyi, who was in charge of knowledge reserves, and Professor He Xiaoxin from the information center, were sifting through documents in the vast library.
It was An Xiaoyi’s first time seeing such a large library, completely different from his high school’s.
It had three floors, an eerily quiet atmosphere, and a giant rose lamp hanging from the central ceiling.
The authority files section was only accessible to professors.
Books about authority knowledge were recorded in the innermost part.
They were very old, tattered yellow papers, protected by transparent sealed folders.
This was the world’s richest reserve of vampire authority knowledge.
To be honest, there were quite a few fools at the school who had organized the materials haphazardly.
The air conditioning was on in the library, so An Xiaoyi took off his fleece coat and thin scarf, then climbed a ladder to get a small book.
Below, the discarded books had already piled up into a small mountain.
“You two aren’t trying to tear the place down, are you?” Someone said from below the ladder.
An Xiaoyi looked down to see a woman with long wavy brown hair adjusting her glasses.
It was the librarian, Herrla, Principal Farrow’s cousin, an S-class authority user.
She was intimidating and had a bad temper.
“Ms. Herrla, could you lend a hand?” An Xiaoyi was surprised.
The librarian coldly scanned the messy corner, which had been turned upside down by the new professor in just two hours.
“Why does finding a document look like you’re fighting a war?”
The mountain of ancient books piled below shifted slightly, and a large head of blonde hair suddenly popped out.
Dorothea, like a drowning fish, gasped for air, clutching a black leather book tightly in her right hand.
“Found it!”
“The Everlasting Record, book number SS1044, special clearance.” The librarian took out a notebook and walked over to He Xiaoxin.
“The principal mentioned it beforehand, but you still need to sign.”
He Xiaoxin signed and then looked at An Xiaoyi.
“I’ll sign for you too.”
“Director He, I’m afraid that’s not appropriate,” Herrla interjected.
An Xiaoyi jumped down and took the pen, signing his name in the notebook.
“Do I need to write the date?”
The librarian didn’t answer.
An Xiaoyi finished writing the date and returned the notebook, whereupon the librarian coldly walked away.
The Everlasting Record, an archive about old vampires.
St. Antiona believed old vampires no longer existed in the world, so this book hadn’t been looked at in over a decade.
They had searched for a long time.
Flipping open the book, An Xiaoyi read distractedly.
No one knew he was the vampire who had released his authority last night.
Carefully observing He Xiaoxin, he noticed that she too was absent-minded.
Ever since leaving the research department, she seemed to have something to say but chose not to voice it, her gaze returning to the archives.
Only Dorothea leaned in and read very carefully.
She was a student An Xiaoyi had brought along to help with the heavy lifting.
As a university professor, the first thing to learn was to get students to do the grunt work.
This archive vaguely recorded old vampires.
Unexpectedly, there was a section An Xiaoyi had never heard of, stating that old vampires had once collaborated closely with humans.
In his impression, old vampires like his family just blended into human society but absolutely avoided excessive contact with humans.
Before he could think, he heard He Xiaoxin speak, seemingly casually.
“Actually, you know.”
An Xiaoyi looked up, not understanding the five words she had spoken.
“Dorothea, Professor An and I need to talk. Would you mind?” He Xiaoxin shoved the book into the blonde girl’s arms.
“Oh, okay.” Dorothea nodded, hugging the large black book as she went to a corner.
He Xiaoxin’s gaze withdrew from behind her, landing on the man who was a few centimeters shorter than herself.
Noticing the wariness in An Xiaoyi’s eyes, she casually pointed to a nearby chair.
“An Xiaoyi, we both know that book won’t have anything about last night’s authority.”
“What do you mean?” An Xiaoyi felt slightly uneasy.
After a moment’s hesitation, he sat down.
Seating was only necessary for long conversations.
“Clearly, you know about last night’s events,” the woman stated, staring into his eyes.
“Of course I know, I was a participating professor,” An Xiaoyi said, a little bewildered.
“The Eye of Grada, one of the five supreme authorities that shouldn’t exist anymore, belonging exclusively to the Third Progenitor.”
He Xiaoxin tilted her head, observing An Xiaoyi’s reaction.
She tore open a bag of coffee on the table, skillfully poured it into a cup, and handed it to him.
“Legend has it that in its most supreme state, this authority can envelop the entire world, like a massive dream, far more extreme than an illusion, even capable of influencing reality. Fortunately, I was able to witness this miracle firsthand last night.”
An Xiaoyi took the coffee, but his gaze remained fixed on the woman’s eyes.
“You were there too?”
“Don’t worry, I didn’t see where you went,” He Xiaoxin said, rather inexplicably.
“However, the Eye of Grada’s effect wasn’t very good last night. Clearly, the Prince-level vampire didn’t win the revival match below. So, who then used the Eye of Grada?”
When she said this, her eyes left no room for doubt.
“I don’t remember An Xiaoxue being that strong,” An Xiaoyi said, appearing hesitant, feigning inner surprise.
“And why would she do that? This is just your guess.”
“I told you, I’m the person in the world who knows her best.” He Xiaoxin looked down at the coffee in her cup.
“Only she could do it. Her authority is, by nature, replication.”
“The world is full of wonders, maybe it was another vampire. She’s very obedient; I told her not to meddle,” An Xiaoyi calmly stirred his coffee.
“Why do you say I’d know about last night’s events?”
“You probably didn’t look at last night’s reports.”
“I don’t have the clearance.”
“In the report, Eve was careful. She was certain everyone present fell into the illusion, except for you, because you weren’t in an observable position at the time, so no one could guarantee it.”
What He Xiaoxin said next aligned with her speculation, making An Xiaoyi slightly relieved.
“Combining that with An Xiaoxue having this ability, I figured it out.”
“The report I wrote was quite detailed. I honestly didn’t fall into the illusion because I fainted on the spot,” An Xiaoyi lied without batting an eye.
“I’m an untrained history professor.”
“Your authority is related to attention. Logically, you should be more easily affected by illusions, and it has little to do with physical fitness,” He Xiaoxin said with a sigh, telling him very seriously.
“A few individuals already suspect you, like Eve, believing you released that authority or are connected to it. As an untrained professor, even with extraordinary attention, severely wounding a Count-level vampire with just a sniper rifle is still quite a challenge to the imagination.”
“You’re right.”
At this point, An Xiaoyi could only concede.
“Alright, alright, I called my sister for help. You got the answer you wanted.”
“No,” He Xiaoxin shook her head.
“I wasn’t looking for an answer, just a warning.”
“Understood. I’ll tell her to be careful, preferably to leave Honghu City.”
“That’s quite unnecessary,” He Xiaoxin said coldly.
