“You…”
He Wanying finally snapped out of her daze, looking at Lin Guiming in front of her with a nervous expression.
Had she… been kidnapped?
What did he want to do?
Could it be… he wanted to…
But they weren’t even married yet!
At the very least, shouldn’t that kind of thing wait until after the wedding?
And definitely not out here in the wilderness, right?
Her body curled up slightly, and she looked at Lin Guiming with a hint of fear.
“You… not here, okay? After we get married tonight, you can do whatever you want, alright?”
Lin Guiming’s face immediately darkened, and he didn’t respond to her words, instead holding up two fingers.
“Two things.”
“First, I really wasn’t there to participate in the marriage tournament, got it?”
Lin Guiming leaned down, getting a bit closer to her.
He Wanying looked at him with a wronged expression but firmly shook her head.
“…”
“What do I have to do to make you believe me?”
Lin Guiming said helplessly.
“B-But…”
He Wanying lowered her head, her petite frame curling up even more.
“I already announced in front of all those people that you’re my husband… If you back out now, I’ll never be able to marry anyone else!”
As she spoke, her lips quivered, and it looked like she was about to cry again.
Though He Wanying might seem a bit naive at times, she wasn’t foolish.
This man was her family’s only hope, a rare golden opportunity, and she was determined to hold on tight, no matter what!
Besides, compared to those greasy old men, this young man had a huge advantage in appearance.
His handsome looks, smooth skin almost like a girl’s, and most importantly, that transcendent, otherworldly aura—he was practically a heartthrob!
Meanwhile, Lin Guiming’s headache only grew worse.
How did it feel like he’d kidnapped some kind of high-maintenance princess?
She kept crying at the drop of a hat, and coaxing her was no easy task…
“Look…”
He leaned closer to the girl again, so close that his breath brushed her face, making He Wanying’s cheeks flush red as if she’d been drinking.
“This is technically a kidnapping, so can you give me a little face here?
If you keep crying like this, it’s really hard for me to deal with.”
“Uh… um, okay…”
He Wanying’s face was red, her hands pressed to her chest as if she wanted to push Lin Guiming away but didn’t quite dare.
“A-Anyway… can you not stand so close?”
She stammered out the words.
“Oh, sorry.”
Lin Guiming’s expression shifted, and he quickly stepped back a couple of paces, scratching his head with a slightly awkward look.
He’d been so focused on getting her to stop crying and listen that he hadn’t noticed how close he’d gotten.
Seeing him like this, He Wanying suddenly felt less nervous for some reason, and a faint smile even curved her lips.
How could there be such an adorable “kidnapper”?
“Ahem, anyway, there’s something I need to tell you…”
Lin Guiming coughed twice and said.
“You’re my husband.”
“No, wait…”
“You’re my husband.”
“Look, what I’m trying to say is…”
“I’ll fulfill all my duties as a wife. If there’s anything I don’t understand, I’ll ask my mother for advice, or… or you can teach me, husband. Oh, and about children—do you prefer a boy or a girl?”
“A girl… wait, no, that’s not what I meant!”
Lin Guiming said, his face full of exasperation.
One moment of distraction, and this girl had completely derailed the conversation.
“What I mean is, the reason I suddenly appeared on that stage is because you might be my…”
Boom—!
A muffled sound interrupted Lin Guiming’s words, followed by a scream.
A figure traced a perfect arc through the air, crashing heavily to the ground not far from the two of them.
“???”
Lin Guiming’s face was a picture of confusion.
Could he just have a proper conversation for once?
