Several uniformed senior students stood at the entrance.
Seeing Su Xing and the others approach, they began the registration process after confirming their names.
After registering their names, a senior student led them to a room and explained, “This is a room constructed by a Master Phantom of the spatial element. Inside is an exotic space where you can freely use your abilities without worrying about causing any damage.”
Su Xing was the first to enter the dark room.
Inside, it was far from as simple as it appeared from the outside, but rather a blue grid space, similar to a chessboard.
A man with a full beard and a voluptuous woman stood inside.
Su Xing politely greeted the two teachers, “Hello, teachers!”
The man was impassive, but the woman beside him nodded at her, “You can begin to have your Phantom release its ability now. We will register it according to the actual situation.”
Su Xing sighed slightly and placed the little fox on the ground, “This is my Phantom, Feng Jun.”
After speaking, she winked at Feng Jun, signaling it to use its ability.
Feng Jun first tried to release a tornado, but it indeed didn’t work.
So, left with no choice, it resorted to Plan B.
It suddenly accelerated and ran towards the man, then extended its claw and slashed forcefully—leaving only a faint white mark on the man’s arm.
Great Phantom Masters, whether in physical strength or other aspects, far surpassed ordinary people; common injuries simply couldn’t harm them.
The man nodded and had the woman record, “Phantom Master—Su Xing, Phantom—Feng Jun, Ability—Scratch, offensive ability, power—average.”
This answer was quite good for Su Xing, because Feng Jun hadn’t actually used an ability, relying solely on its claws.
To receive an “average” rating in such circumstances showed how sharp Feng Jun’s claws were.
She walked out, collected a room card for the female dormitory, and, without waiting for Kaka and the others, went to check her room first.
After all, the female dormitory and male dormitory weren’t together, so waiting would just be a waste of time.
Spirit Realm Academy was vast.
Su Xing, carrying Feng Jun, walked for a full ten minutes to reach it.
Along the way, they passed a very large and beautiful lake, stretching endlessly.
The female dormitory was empty, with few people.
Su Xing chose room number 202; the second floor wouldn’t have too many footsteps coming and going, and climbing stairs wasn’t tiring, making it a good choice for her.
The next day, the academy posted everyone’s initial abilities on the public bulletin board and informed them about forming teams.
The female dormitory gradually filled up, but Su Xing didn’t interact much with them.
It wasn’t that Su Xing was aloof.
The main reason was that teams were registered and grouped at the start of school, so everyone was looking for teammates during this time.
She already had teammates, and considering her “pathetic” ability, others didn’t want to team up with her anyway.
Su Xing even made a special trip to the bulletin board to see what abilities her teammates had registered.
Mainly Evangel, Su Xing still didn’t know what abilities his Phantom had.
Upon seeing it, she couldn’t help but sigh.
No wonder Evangel had said this ability was useless; it was purely a blink, and the phantom itself had no offensive capability whatsoever, at most it could scare people.
Moreover, because it could only blink within five meters, it was ranked at the very bottom of the special category abilities.
Yes, this bulletin board had categories and rankings.
Abilities were categorized as “Offensive,” “Control,” “Support,” “Defensive,” and “Special.”
They were ranked from strongest to weakest.
And Su Xing and Evangel firmly occupied the last place in the Offensive and Special categories, respectively.
Not just them, Kaka also successfully took the last place in the Defensive category.
His displayed ability was, after the Phantom inflates, it gains some defensive power for itself.
This left Su Xing very confused for a moment, as his actual ability had nothing to do with this.
Later, when she asked him, she found out that the little fool had temporarily forgotten that his Phantom could break through any non-human object’s defense, since he had always thought his “Little Blue” could only inflate.
So, what he told the registrar was that Little Blue could only inflate.
The registrar then felt that inflating wasn’t even a Phantom ability, and although they didn’t understand how Kaka received an admission notice, they forcibly added an ability that could increase defense.
That’s how Kaka’s abilities were displayed on the bulletin board.
Among the four of them, the only one who showed some promise was Quinn.
His healing ability was quite strong in the support category.
His healing output was not small, and it also had a secondary defensive effect, surprisingly pushing him to fifth place in the support category.
However, it was precisely this fifth-place ranking that caused no small amount of trouble for Su Xing and the others.
Too many people came to ask Quinn to team up.
After all, support roles are very important, and he was ranked highly.
This led to Quinn stammering repeatedly that he already had a team after the rankings came out that day, wishing he could just stick a sign on himself.
On the third day, Su Xing and the three decided to walk together.
With four of them together, no one would approach them, as it would be obvious to anyone with eyes that these four were likely already a team.
But as it turned out, there were blind people in the first year 🙂
“Quinn, right? I’ll give you a chance, join our team.”
The blond Victor, with his newly formed team of three, stood before Su Xing and her companions, inviting Quinn condescendingly.
In fact, Victor did have some skill to be able to join Spirit Realm Academy.
He was ranked first on the offensive list, with his Phantom, the Dragon Scale Tiger.
His first ability allowed dragon scales from his Phantom’s body to fly out, damaging the enemy.
His teammates were also impressive, all ranked among the top five students.
Su Xing had to admit that compared to their team, which clearly looked like stragglers, Victor’s team was significantly more reliable.
So, what was Quinn thinking?
Su Xing was somewhat unsure.
Frankly, people strive for betterment, just as water flows downhill.
Although their abilities each had hidden aspects, following Victor would certainly not be a loss.
Compared to the naive Kaka, the reclusive Evangel, and herself who was accustomed to the vicissitudes of life, Quinn seemed more like someone who could embrace the light, and their bond wasn’t as deep.
With them, Quinn would likely only receive disdain and confusion for a while.
But with Victor’s team, the title of the strongest first-year squad would probably be secure.
“No!”
To Su Xing’s complete surprise, Quinn refused Victor decisively, without even thinking.
Victor was clearly as perplexed as Su Xing, “Why? The three of them are the absolute bottom of the barrel in the entire grade. What reason do you have to refuse me and choose them?”
Quinn’s eyes were firm, “Perhaps you seem stronger now. But I believe I can learn more from my companions, things that pure strength growth simply cannot compare to.”
“Exactly!”
Kaka threw an arm around Quinn’s neck, “We’re good friends! We’ve already formed a team in advance, Quinn isn’t leaving!”
Su Xing and Evangel also stood behind Quinn.
Since he had already chosen his team, they naturally had to stand by his choice.
“You, you ungrateful wretch!”
Victor roared like an angry little golden lion, “Three grade bottom-feeders paired with a support with no attack power. I’d like to see how you complete missions!”
The brown-haired girl with voluminous hair in his team covered her mouth and chuckled, “Oh dear, his not choosing us is clearly his loss, why are you getting angry? My dad says every mission at Spirit Realm Academy is like a small test, with graded evaluations. You won’t be angry when you see all their D’s.”
“Indeed, they’re just insignificant nobodies. You’ll soon find that this group has been left far behind, completely out of sight. I’m quite disappointed that Young Master Kaka would associate with such a group, though with his ability, it seems he can only associate with such people anyway,” another slick-haired, effeminate boy said mockingly.
Victor felt slightly uncomfortable with their tone, but he was still comforted.
He puffed out his chest, resuming his arrogant demeanor, “You, you all, will regret this eventually.”
With that, he turned and left with his small entourage.
Su Xing shrugged, smiling as she put her arm over Quinn’s other shoulder, “Little Quinn is truly amazing.”
Quinn’s face flushed slightly.
He had blurted out everything on his mind at the time, and now, recalling it, he felt incredibly shy.
With Victor’s failure, almost no one approached Quinn anymore.
The group enjoyed a day of peace and submitted their team roster to the responsible teacher.
The night before school started, Su Xing received her class assignment—Class B.
Kaka and the other two naturally received the same.
Textbooks were also distributed, just three in total, Phantom General Knowledge, Herbology General Knowledge, and History.
The next day, they finally welcomed the first day of school.
As everyone in the academy gathered in the grand auditorium, Su Xing realized how few people there truly were at Spirit Realm Academy.
The auditorium was vast, but there were only just over five hundred students, making it feel very empty.
The first year had a paltry little over a hundred students.
And the number of senior students was even smaller, sparsely seated at the back, many of whom were prominent figures often seen on television, fighting on the front lines to protect Mercury.
Although Su Xing and her companions were fifteen, as first-years, they truly didn’t measure up compared to these individuals.
Class B’s homeroom teacher was already waiting for them in the auditorium.
She was a woman in her forties, wearing black square-rimmed glasses, with sunken cheeks and a stern, old-fashioned appearance.
The moment Su Xing saw her, her face immediately fell.
Kaka had the same expression; as a defiant type, he equally dreaded such teachers.
However, unlike Kaka, who was unruly and mischievous, Su Xing was unruly in a way that involved sneaky maneuvers.
Su Xing could act perfectly in front of the appropriate teachers, but facing such a rigid teacher would clearly require more effort.
The teacher held up a Class B sign.
After twenty-nine people had gathered, she introduced herself, “Hello, students. I am Teacher Adra. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be your homeroom teacher for the next five years. Now, please follow me to the opening ceremony, and then I will take you to the classroom for your very first class of the first year.”
After speaking, Adra arranged for everyone to sit in a row of chairs.
She then sat down in the faculty section at the back, waiting for the ceremony to begin.
