Jiang Chi dashed all the way to the school, only stopping to catch his breath when he rushed into a lush grove of trees.Â
He leaned heavily against a nearby tree, trying to steady his breathing.
There are 32 million bacteria on every square inch of human skin-not to mention the bacteria in saliva, on the skin, and in certain reproductive organs.
The thought of exchanging saliva, skin contact, or intimate collisions made Jiang Chi shudder with disgust. His stomach churned so violently he nearly vomited.
“Jiang Chi.” A soft voice called out beside him.
“Not interested.”
The words left Jiang Chi’s lips almost instinctively.
Chen Jiajia: ???
Only then did Jiang Chi finally see who was standing beside him.
He straightened up, quickly regaining his usual aloof demeanor.
His pale blue eyes shimmered like a galaxy, deep and mesmerizing, dreamlike enough to enchant anyone.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting scattered, dappled shadows.
Chen Jiajia tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she gazed at the boy before her.
Even though his mask covered most of his face, it couldn’t hide the icy, untouchable aura that surrounded him.
“Chen, is there something you need?”
Jiang Chi frowned slightly, subtly taking a step back.
In her eyes, he saw the same look Ji Qingchan often had-except Chen Jiajia was far better at masking it.
“Jiang Chi, did you know? The sports department’s Ji Yuenian and his crew are pulling out all the stops to campaign for the school heartthrob election…”
Chen Jiajia mused to herself. Someone as outstanding as Jiang Chi would undoubtedly be a strong contender. Maybe she could use this chance to get closer to him.
A 17-year-old boy, just awakening to romance, full of youthful vigor-if she spent more time with him and built up his affection, bit by bit, those feelings would accumulate.
Eventually, she could become the white moonlight in his heart, securing her future in one fell swoop.
It was the same logic as guys chasing after sugar mommies.
But the boy merely let out a disinterested “Oh.”
“I know.”
“I hate how domineering Ji Yuenian and the sports department are. That’s why I publicly rejected him in front of everyone last time…”
“Mhm, I can tell.”
“Jiang Chi, you’re one of the candidates too. Don’t you want to stand up for the students being pressured by the sports department and Ji Yuenian?”
“As the head of the arts department, I think I can help you…”
“Thanks, but I don’t need it.”
Before Chen Jiajia could finish, Jiang Chi cut her off with a wave of his hand. “I’m not interested in that title, and besides—”
“Jiang Chi, I get it. If the school finds out about vote manipulation, the consequences would be serious. But I promise, our arts department and the other students are all ‘volunteering.’ You don’t have to worry about it.”
Sensing his reluctance, Chen Jiajia decided to go all-in. If she acted naive and clueless enough, he’d have no choice but to accept the favor!
“Let’s do this! Show Ji Yuenian and his sports department the bonds between us and the students who refuse to be bullied!!” Jiang Chi: “..
He opened his mouth as if to say something more, but Chen Jiajia didn’t give him the chance.
Before her words had even fully faded, she dashed off like the wind, leaving Jiang Chi standing there, utterly bewildered.
He glanced at his watch.
There were still ten minutes before class, so he decided not to dwell on those trivial matters.
Slinging his bag over his shoulder, he was about to head toward the teaching building when suddenly, a figure darted out from the bushes behind him.
Ji Qingchan stood there with her arms crossed, a hint of mischief glinting in her eyes.
“Senior Jiang, I never thought you’d be this kind of person.”
With that, she pulled out a bear-shaped phone from her pink handbag and waved it playfully in front of him, sticking out her tongue cheekily.
“I recorded everything you guys just said-“
Ji Yuenian was also stunned. She had originally planned to return to Secret Base No. 2 to change clothes after arriving at school, but then she saw Chen Jiajia sneaking off toward the grove.
Almost as if possessed, she followed-only to overhear all this.
Damn!
They say even if a deal falls through, goodwill remains.
But Chen Jiajia had stabbed him in the back!
Ji Yuenian admitted that the sports department was indeed helping her campaign for votes.
She had pursued Chen Jiajia partly because she coveted her position as head of the arts department, hoping to secure a few extra votes by building a good relationship.
But forced voting?
She wouldn’t dare.
That would easily stir up resentment, and if things went south, the whole plan would collapse.
Jiang Chi saw the recording on Ji Qingchan’s phone and strode forward, reaching out to snatch it.
But Ji Qingchan nimbly dodged, hopping back a few steps with the phone still in hand.
“Senior Jiang, if you keep this up, I’ll send this recording to the whole school group chat-“
“I wasn’t rigging votes,” Jiang Chi said calmly, his gaze steady on her.
“I know.”
“But…”
Ji Qingchan shook the phone a few times, her eyes curving into crescents.
“Senior Jiang, I’m sure you wouldn’t want the entire school to hear this, right?”
“What do you want?” Jiang Chi frowned.
“I want you to apologize to me.” Her voice carried a mix of grievance and defiance.
“Apologize?”
“That’s right, apologize!”
Ji Qingchan crossed her arms, her rosy lips parting as she let out an indignant huff.
“I admired you so much, Senior Jiang. I liked you so much. But you went and called me… someone from that kind of profession!”
“Fine, the first time I approached you, I did have an ulterior motive. And my foot wasn’t really injured. But I just wanted to get close to you once-like a fan meeting their idol! And yet, you didn’t even glance at me.”
As she spoke, a misty haze welled up in her eyes, blurring their usual clarity.
“I’m sorry,” Jiang Chi said softly.
Pfft!
Ji Qingchan immediately burst into laughter, the mist in her eyes vanishing as quickly as it had appeared, her gaze bright and clear once more.
Tears still glistened on her cheeks, but she couldn’t hold back her giggles, as if all her grievances had dissolved in that instant.
Jiang Chi watched her smile, and whether it was her infectious joy or not, he felt a weight lift from his chest.
The atmosphere around them lightened, as though a fresh breeze had swept away the gloom.
“Hmph! I’ll forgive you this time, Senior Jiang!”
Ji Qingchan pouted, her peach-blossom cheeks flushing pink.
Her petite hand clutched the phone tightly as she resolutely deleted the recording right in front of Jiang Chi, her movements crisp and effortless, as if conveying some unspoken message to him.
“There, I’ve deleted the recording!”
Her clear, melodious voice carried a hint of barely concealed triumph.
Ji Qingchan darted away swiftly like an agile fawn.
After running a short distance, she suddenly turned back and called out loudly toward Jiang Chi, “Senior Jiang, I actually made a copy of that recording! From now on, this will be our little secret!”
With those words, her petite figure—like a lively, mischievous little rabbit-bounced away under the sunlight and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Jiang Chi, who had been about to leave, stumbled and nearly fell.
Are we sure he wasn’t already gay before he got the coin?
Real makes me wonder too
