To be fair, Taliya did have a point.
If the seal were that easy to break, things wouldn’t have stayed peaceful for over six hundred years.
Still, as the guardian spirit of the Holy Relics, Mengmeng had to give Taliya a kick.
“Flirting, flirting, flirting—flirting all day long! You’re a girl, for crying out loud. Instead of going out and finding a sugar daddy, all you ever think about is molesting other girls. I’ve been a guardian spirit for so many years, witnessed dozens of generations of heroes, and never—ever—have I seen a hero as absurd as you.”
Mengmeng grumbled nonstop.
If it weren’t for the fact that heroes were chosen by the relics themselves, she’d have tossed this idiot hero out and picked a new one.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you. That dead-fish-eyed elf gets scary when she’s mad. If you don’t want to get your butt kicked, you’d better hurry up and find the Tear of the Angel.”
Worn out from scolding, Mengmeng dragged her 66.6 cm body back into the Sword of Starry Night.
As the guardian spirit of the Holy Relics, the seven relics were her home—where she usually stayed.
She rarely ever came out on her own.
Taliya suddenly remembered the terrifying look on her old master’s face and shivered.
Not daring to mess around anymore, she quickly said:
“I’ll go look for it right away. But first, Mengmeng, there’s one thing I need to correct.”
“What is it?”
Seeing how serious Taliya was, Mengmeng curiously moved the hilt of the sword closer.
Then Taliya said with a dead-serious expression:
“True love only exists between people of the same sex. Men are vile creatures who only think with what’s between their legs. Mengmeng, I’ll let this one slide, but if you forget again, I will be mad.”
Mengmeng: ……
“Screw you and your ‘yo’! I swear I could twist your head off and use it as a soccer ball right now!”
Inside the Sword of Starry Night, Mengmeng pressed her palm to her forehead in frustration.
She should’ve known better than to expect anything from this idiot of a hero.
She actually let herself hope for a moment just now.
She must be a damn fool!
Mengmeng took a deep breath and corrected her firmly:
“Have you ever considered the possibility that making babies still requires a man and a woman? And maybe, just maybe, that whole ‘men are ruled by their lower halves’ thing is just a stereotype. Take that guy Kane, for example—he’s an exception. Most men are actually decent.”
Mengmeng was still trying, making one last-ditch effort to straighten out her hopeless hero’s preferences.
After all, she was the most naturally gifted hero in generations.
It’d be a terrible waste if such an exceptional bloodline didn’t get passed on.
But she shouldn’t have brought up Kane—just hearing his name made Taliya’s face twist with disgust.
“That guy doesn’t even deserve to be a man. Just hearing his name gives me goosebumps. If I ever run into him again, I swear I’m gonna teach him a lesson he’ll never forget.”
“But the king said you’re not allowed to lay a hand on him.”
Mengmeng reminded her in a hushed voice.
No matter how you looked at it, Kane was the only son of that ridiculously wealthy Duke Regulus.
The only reason Kane was still breathing after all the crap he’d done was precisely because of the duke’s overwhelming financial influence.
It wasn’t even an exaggeration to say he held the economic lifeline of the entire Kingdom of Silesis.
Though Taliya was the current hero, she was only at Tier Three—still far from reaching her full potential.
If she really went off and destroyed Kane in a fit of rage…
It didn’t take a genius to know which side those opportunistic old foxes would take.
“Don’t care.” Taliya shot back without a second’s hesitation. “He dared to lay a hand on my girl. He has to be punished. If I ever let him walk away unscathed again, I might as well get pregnant with his kid.”
“!”
Mengmeng was scared half to death.
Taliya making a curse like that meant she was dead serious—she was ready to go all-out against Kane, even if it destroyed them both.
For the record, she had kept every single one of her poisonous vows so far.
Mengmeng swallowed hard.
She didn’t like Kane either, sure, but she knew better than to mess with someone like him.
With Duke Regulus’s power and money behind him…
Even that dead-fish-eyed elf would have no choice but to come down hard on Taliya.
And right now was a crucial stage in Taliya’s development.
She couldn’t afford to be sidetracked by outside drama.
“Ahem, no time to waste—let’s focus on finding the Tear of the Angel first,” Mengmeng quickly changed the subject and began scanning for the relic’s presence.
As the guardian spirit of the relics, Mengmeng could sense them once they entered a certain range.
“That’s odd… why does the Tear of the Angel keep appearing and disappearing?” Mengmeng frowned.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
Taliya scratched her head in confusion—she didn’t get what Mengmeng meant.
“Exactly what it sounds like,” Mengmeng poked half her head out from the hilt of the Sword of Starry Night. “One moment I can sense the direction of the Tear of the Angel, the next I can’t. It’s like it’s constantly popping in and out of one spot. The timing is all over the place—sometimes short, sometimes long. It’s just bizarre.”
“Well, if you can still sense it, that means it’s safe, right? So what’s the big deal?”
Taliya shrugged, looking totally unconcerned.
Mengmeng wanted to argue, but didn’t even know where to start.
All she could do was mutter, “Anyway, just hurry up and get the Tear of the Angel back. We’ll deal with everything else later.”
“Got it, got it, I’m going right now.”
“…Then would you please start moving already?”
Taliya kept talking about going, but didn’t so much as twitch.
In fact, she even pulled out a compact mirror and started doing her eyebrows right there.
Was she seriously planning to…
“Who would’ve thought we’d meet again so soon after parting for less than three hours? Miss Kun’er and I really are tied together by the red thread of fate.”
“I f@#¥%!°(&*.”
Mengmeng cursed like a sailor, utterly losing it.
She wanted nothing more than to fly out and become the hero herself.
By the time Taliya finally finished getting herself ready, she suddenly let out a dramatic, “Ah!”
“…What now…” Mengmeng asked, emotionally drained.
Taliya held her cheeks with both hands, looking absolutely distraught. “I almost forgot—Vanessa’s coming to the border too! What if she sees me with Kun’er and gets jealous? I haven’t even told her yet that she’s just one of many wings in my collection.”
“You don’t have wings! And she’s not yours! And she won’t get jealous! If anything, Vanessa technically still belongs to that man you hate—Kane! Because their engagement cancellation hasn’t even been made public yet!!!!!!!”
—thud thud thud
The furious guardian spirit burst out again, standing all of her mighty 66.6 cm tall.
Wielding the black and white twin swords, she launched a flurry of blows straight at Taliya’s head.
Taliya clutched her head and jumped around like a monkey, howling in pain.
But no matter what, she couldn’t change that heart of hers that longed for beauty.
……
Meanwhile.
Kane was on both knees, palms on the ground, his clothes drenched in sweat.
Heavy breaths echoed through the deserted forest.
After a long while, Kane slowly raised one arm, making a triumphant declaration:
“I-I-I finally lasted three minutes…”
