The night slowly receded, and the city gradually awakened.
The rain-kissed morning was cooler than the night before.
Outside the window, a dense fog hung, and wisps of cold seeped into the room through the window cracks, bit by bit.
The alarm rang on time, breaking the silence in the room, but was quickly silenced by a hand.
Then, the quilt was thrown back, and Xu Huo suddenly sat up from the floor.
He rubbed his face vigorously with both hands, looking like his body was awake but his brain hadn’t started working yet.
Perhaps staying in bed a little longer would be more comfortable, but he couldn’t.
Even if he stayed up late the night before, the moment the alarm rang, he had to wake up immediately.
Otherwise, if he slept, Ranran would completely let herself go.
In the past, there had been times when he lingered a bit longer, only to wake up and have missed half a day of class.
On the soft, large bed, the quilt was slightly raised in a mound—that was Ranran’s spot.
Probably because she wasn’t a restful sleeper, one corner of the quilt was almost touching the floor. She was still asleep, looking quite comfortable.
The alarm didn’t disturb her at all. If you listened closely, you could hear her adorable breathing.
Every now and then, she’d rub her small face against the pillow like a kitten, smack her lips, murmur something, and then continue to sleep soundly.
Through a gap in the quilt, a snow-white, adorable little foot could be seen.
Its nails were healthy and shiny, the arch of the foot was graceful, and the sole was pink and tender.
Probably feeling the cold, this little foot darted back into the covers with a whoosh.
Then her calf moved, folding the quilt at her feet and pressing it down with her foot, not letting any cold air in.
Xu Huo found it amusing.
He patted her bottom through the quilt, “Lazy pig! Get up!”
“Mmm~~”
Jiang Ran pulled the quilt up to cover her head.
She was indeed very noisy before bed, but once asleep, she was like a pig.
Even with Xu Huo’s “vicious” prodding, she didn’t wake up.
But this was expected.
He recalled how in the past, he’d have to knock on the door until it almost broke before she groggily got up.
So Xu Huo went to pull away her warm quilt.
She immediately instinctively hugged it tight, then rolled over with a soft “mmm,” pressing the corner of the quilt under her body so he couldn’t pull it.
“I’ll give you ten more minutes to sleep!”
Xu Huo reluctantly had to help Jiang Ran cover herself properly again.
He mainly worried about her catching a cold, which would ultimately just cause him trouble.
But actually, she didn’t need ten minutes.
The moment Xu Huo left, Jiang Ran immediately hugged Xu Huo’s quilt, took a deep breath, and then opened her wide eyes, full of energy.
The first thing she did upon waking was go to the bathroom.
Inside and outside the window, there was the patter of water…
“Excuse me! Excuse me! I need to wash my hands.”
“Did you pee on your hands?”
Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.
“Yes!”
Hearing this, Jiang Ran nodded and didn’t bother washing.
She simply gave up, raising her hand to wipe it on Xu Huo’s clothes.
Xu Huo, with foam in his mouth, glared at her, his face full of black lines, “What are you doing? Aren’t you brushing your teeth?”
“Hmph! I was actually going to say I’d wake you up today! No pressure with no college entrance exam. I feel as light as a swallow right now, I’m going to fly, I’m going to fly…”
Jiang Ran insisted she had grown wings.
If Xu Huo hadn’t held her back, she probably would have flown into the sky.
“Oh please, which time did you say you’d wake me up the next day, and it wasn’t me waking you up in the end?”
“True… I might really have grown up.”
Jiang Ran looked quite melancholic, reaching for the toothpaste.
The toothpaste in the cup was already squashed, looking insecure.
Jiang Ran started from the bottom, rolling the toothpaste up, squeezing it little by little.
“What are you saying?”
Xu Huo’s words were muffled with foam.
“When I was little, whenever it was a school day, I wished I could sleep forever, but once it was a holiday, I just couldn’t sleep. Now that I’ve got direct admission, theoretically going to school and being on holiday are pretty much the same, but I just don’t want to get up.”
“Then sleep by yourself tonight… You’re an adult now!”
“No way, yesterday’s psychological trauma was too big, I need at least another week to recover…”
“Get lost!”
“Ah~~ You don’t even feel bad for me anymore. Mom and Dad would definitely agree if they were home.”
“Hurry up and brush your teeth! All you do is dawdle!”
The two figures, one tall and one small, brushed their teeth together by the sink.
Jiang Ran stretched lazily, looked at them in the mirror, and smiled, her eyes narrowed, full of happiness.
“Brother, don’t we look like siblings?”
Foam sprayed from her mouth, splashing onto the mirror.
“We are.”
Xu Huo also splashed foam onto the mirror.
“We’re even starting to look more and more alike…”
“Then you’re really basking in my glory.”
“Pfft! Shameless!”
“Heh heh… Woman, your name is lie.”
Xu Huo scooped up some water to wash his face, then roughly rubbed his hair with his wet hands, flattening some of the stray strands.
This was the good thing about being handsome; even with messy hair, people would always assume it was a deliberate hairstyle, giving off a naturally unkempt vibe.
Combined with his just-woken-up look, it created an air of laziness.
From waking up to the siblings heading out with their backpacks, it took a total of no more than twenty minutes.
Probably only students leave that early.
The early morning subway wasn’t too crowded, with plenty of empty seats.
A few minutes later, the subway arrived, and the siblings got off, walking quickly into the school.
It was now early reading time, and from the first floor, one could hear the top students reciting vocabulary or ancient poems.
Jiang Ran stopped at the corner, smiling and waving at Xu Huo: “Brother, I’m off!” “Be good… Wait for me at the entrance to the cafeteria at noon.”
“I’m not a child anymore!”
Jiang Ran complained, stomped her foot lightly, then turned and left, a barely noticeable hint of glee in her eyes.
As Xu Huo walked further up, the sound of early reading grew fainter, and the chatter grew louder.
When he reached his own classroom, the reading sounds had become sparse, replaced mostly by the sounds of students fooling around.
This would continue until a teacher entered. Xu Huo’s seat was by the window, a prime spot for sunshine SPA.
His deskmate, Song Jian, was teasing the two girls in front, the fat on his face jiggling.
When he saw Xu Huo approaching, his eyes instantly lit up, and he vigorously waved, “Huo Ge, I thought you were going to jump yesterday!”
“Only a crazy person jumps.”
“Exactly! So why did Han Xiao jump?”
“It was all a misunderstanding.”
Since he had decided to help Han Xiao clarify, he naturally had to start with the class.
Xu Huo simply selectively recounted what happened yesterday.
The others, who had initially been listening with gossip on their minds, immediately lost interest.
“Oh, so that’s what happened… I thought it was really hype, like they said online.”
“If you can trust gossip these days, you can climb a tree.”
“Hey! Are you looking down on me? Even though I’m fat now, I actually could climb trees before I was ten…”
“Didn’t they say you’ve been fat since you were little? You could climb even then?”
Song Jian rolled his eyes, “If a goose chased you, you could climb too. My butt still hurts thinking about it.”
