Stepping out of the dorm room, the three immediately tensed up.
First, they cautiously surveyed their surroundings.
Fortunately, the sixth-floor hallway remained as empty as before-no zombies in sight.
Letting out a sigh of relief, they carefully made their way toward the staircase.
Thud-!
Zhou Kai, distracted for a moment, accidentally knocked the handle of his broom against a door.
The dull metallic clang reverberated through the hallway.
“Damn it!”
Lin Mo’s heart lurched. Before he could even react, movement erupted from behind several doors-growls, frantic pounding— sending chills down their spines.
Just because the hallway was clear didn’t mean the dorm rooms were.
In fact, their own room was one of the rare lucky ones where none of the four occupants had turned.
Most rooms had at least one zombie, and once one person turned, it usually meant everyone in that dorm would follow.
Still, while the zombies were making a racket, they lacked intelligence and couldn’t open doors.
They wouldn’t be breaking out anytime soon.
So Lin Mo’s focus wasn’t on them-it was on the staircase.
Zhang Yu shared the same thought, while Zhou Kai stared in panic at the violently shaking doors around them.
If not for the last shred of his rationality, he might have screamed.
After a long silence from Lin Mo’s group, the zombies gradually quieted down, and the hallway returned to stillness.
“Seems zombies don’t have a sense of smell—at least, they can’t detect humans that way,” Lin Mo concluded.
If they could, the zombies would have gone berserk the moment they stepped into the hallway, not just after hearing noise.
After another tense pause, the three dared to move forward again.
Lin Mo gripped his mop handle tightly, cautiously advancing toward the stairwell, with Zhang Yu and a visibly shaken Zhou Kai following behind.
Thankfully, the stairwell was empty.
Of course-if any zombies had been there, they would have come running at the earlier noise.
After another careful scan of their surroundings, Lin Mo continued forward, descending a few steps before peering down.
The stairs between the sixth and fifth floors were completely deserted.
“Seems safe for now…”
Just as the thought crossed his mind, a sudden shiver ran down Lin Mo’s spine-an eerie sensation of being watched.
He spun around and saw a zombie approaching from behind.
“Oh no!”
It dawned on him—the sixth floor wasn’t the top.
Above it was a rooftop terrace, usually deserted.
But now, it was clear this zombie had come down from there.
“Watch out!”
Lin Mo hissed in a low voice.
Zhang Yu and Zhou Kai snapped out of their daze and hurried down several steps.
“Huh?”
But as Lin Mo tightened his grip on the mop handle, ready to fight, something felt off.
This zombie… was moving unusually slowly?
He quickly realized why the zombie was moving so slowly-one of its legs was bent at an odd angle, appearing completely limp, clearly broken.
Its neck also seemed twisted, and though its mouth gaped wide, no sound came out.
Lin Mo couldn’t help but laugh. Wasn’t this just free experience points delivered right to him?
