After coming out of the temple, they wandered around for two or three hours, then decided to go home.
After all, they still had to rush back to Shanghai that night, and they still had to eat dinner at home.
When they got home, Xu Qingying opened the door for them and said, “Why didn’t you wander around a little longer?”
“I’ve already wandered for several hours, and I’m tired too,” Meng Chu said coquettishly.
Seeing this, Xu Qingying quickly let them come in and rest.
Just as Xu Qingying was making dinner at home, Meng Chu took the chance to enter the kitchen.
Xu Qingying said, “Why are you in the kitchen again? Go keep Jinyu company.”
Meng Chu chuckled. “I’ll have plenty of time to keep him company when I return to Shanghai. I’m only home for a few hours, so of course I want to spend more time with you.”
After hearing that, Xu Qingying didn’t say anything else.
“Mom,” Meng Chu called.
Xu Qingying answered.
But then Meng Chu stopped talking. Xu Qingying glanced at her while sorting vegetables. “Go on, what’s the matter?”
“My dad came to my company to see me a few days ago,” Meng Chu thought for a moment, then told the truth.
Xu Qingying remained calm. “What did he say to you?”
Now, toward this ex-husband, after so many years and after illness, Xu Qingying didn’t seem to have so many emotions anymore.
No matter how deep the hatred, it faded with time.
Besides, back then, when Meng Haichuan learned Xu Qingying was ill, he truly gave money and effort.
That kindness, Xu Qingying kept in her heart.
So in recent years, Meng Chu was no longer like she was right after the divorce, refusing any contact with Meng Haichuan.
Father and daughter had re-entered a kind of peaceful relationship.
Meng Chu: “He said he wanted to buy me a house in Shanghai, but I refused.”
“Why?” Xu Qingying looked at her.
Meng Chu was stunned for a moment, then chuckled. “You agree?”
Xu Qingying nodded without hesitation. “Mom really doesn’t have the ability to buy one for you. Besides, you’re your father’s daughter too. If he wants to buy you a house, you should take it. After all, you’re almost at marriage age. If a girl has a marriage house, then if she runs into something unhappy, she can have some peace alone.”
After these interactions, Xu Qingying wasn’t worried about the marriage house issue.
After all, Cheng Jinyu casually gave a million-yuan bracelet; a marriage house was probably nothing to him.
But nowadays, when getting married, not only does the man’s family mention preparing a marriage house, capable girls’ families also provide their daughters with a marriage house.
This represented the confidence of the bride’s family.
After Xu Qingying suffered a serious illness, not to mention spending all the family savings.
She even sold the old house.
Fortunately, Meng Chu had the ability, and within just a few years, she bought her a new house.
If she had once not had the courage to draw a firm line with Meng Haichuan, now she had long since let it go.
“Mom really was wrong before. He is your father. He has responsibility and obligation toward you. Only my marriage failed. Mom shouldn’t have made you bear the consequences of our adults’ problems.”
Xu Qingying looked at Meng Chu and said gently.
Meng Chu nodded, then said, “But I still plan to refuse.”
Xu Qingying was surprised.
Then Meng Chu looked at Xu Qingying gently but firmly. “Wait a little longer. I’ll rely on myself to buy you a house in Shanghai. When that time comes, you must move in and live with me, okay?”
“All right. Then you can often bring Jinyu over for dinner,” Xu Qingying accepted the beautiful future Meng Chu described.
Xu Qingying: “Mom always believed you would do it.”
Meng Chu lowered her eyes slightly, then suddenly asked Xu Qingying, “If I said I want to marry Cheng Jinyu, what would you think?”
This truly shocked Xu Qingying.
She hadn’t expected Meng Chu to bring up marriage so quickly.
“Is this your idea, or do both of you have this idea?” Xu Qingying asked.
Meng Chu: “Both of us have this idea.”
Xu Qingying nodded, but still felt a little dazed.
After all, she felt that Meng Chu’s relationship hadn’t started long ago.
Young people nowadays didn’t all need to date for several years before their relationship stabilized and they mentioned marriage.
“Why do you want to get married so quickly?” Xu Qingying still couldn’t help asking clearly.
Meng Chu finally put down what was in her hands and looked at Xu Qingying.
“Because I’ve decided he is the one.”
Meng Chu might have hidden many things from Xu Qingying and failed to tell the truth.
At this moment.
Yet she had told her mother the truest sentence.
She had met such a person.
He had suddenly appeared at the most unexpected time.
But now, he was the one.
After dinner, they decided to leave and set off back to Shanghai.
When they were about to leave, Meng Chu didn’t know why, but suddenly felt terrible.
She really didn’t want to
“Hurry up and go, otherwise it really will be late,” Xu Qingying said, not letting her emotions show, and directly sent them off.
But when they were leaving, Xu Qingying gave Cheng Jinyu a red envelope.
His immediate reaction was: “Auntie, I can’t accept this.”
“According to the customs here, when a boyfriend visits for the first time, if the parents are satisfied, they give a red envelope,” Xu Qingying looked at Cheng Jinyu and said with a smile. “This represents my feelings.”
Meng Chu whispered beside him, “Did you hear that? This means my mom is very satisfied with you.”
Only then did Cheng Jinyu say in a low voice, “Then I’ll accept it.”
“Take it,” Xu Qingying stuffed it into his hand.
After that, they drove away.
When they got home, after the two entered, Cheng Jinyu took the red envelope out of his trench coat pocket. He looked at Meng Chu awkwardly.
“When people receive this kind of red envelope, what do they usually do?”
“Huh?” Meng Chu raised her eyes to look at his hand.
“I’m asking what to do afterward,” Cheng Jinyu looked at Meng Chu and said softly. “After all, this is my first time receiving one.”
Meng Chu laughed. “Generally, it’s given to the girlfriend to keep.”
She was deliberately teasing him.
Cheng Jinyu looked down at the red envelope, then suddenly opened it and took a look.
When he had received it earlier, he had roughly guessed the amount inside.
So in front of Meng Chu, he directly transferred money to her.
Although Meng Chu didn’t take out her phone, she saw him transfer the money with her own eyes, so of course she knew how much he sent.
“You,” she was confused by his move.
Cheng Jinyu’s dark eyes fell on her. “This is from my mother-in-law. I will keep it carefully.”
“Also, what did you say to your mom? Why do I feel that at dinner, the way she looked at me was different?” Cheng Jinyu reached out and hugged Meng Chu, asking softly.
He had always been very perceptive, especially since he had deliberately paid attention to Xu Qingying’s emotional changes.
After all, this was his first visit.
Cheng Jinyu had never deliberately tried to please anyone in his life, but Xu Qingying definitely ranked at the top.
Even more, he felt fortunate to be able to see Xu Qingying with his own eyes.
When they parted at the hospital back then, at least Meng Chu’s mother had luckily survived.
There were already too many regrets in this world.
Now his little girl didn’t have to bear this regret.
Meng Chu tilted her head slightly to look at him and said softly, “I told her I want to marry you.”
Cheng Jinyu was stunned.
He also hadn’t expected Meng Chu to mention this on her first trip home.
After all, she had always said she wanted to give Xu Qingying time to adjust.
“Because I’ve decided you are the one.”
After she said this, Cheng Jinyu’s heart seemed to be rapidly filled with something.
He couldn’t explain it clearly, only felt extremely full, like a tide rushing in.
Meng Chu looked into his eyes and said softly, “The first sentence was indeed a lie.”
The two of them were already married.
“But the second sentence is true.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Meng Chu fell into a warm embrace.
Cheng Jinyu hugged her tightly, as if using all his strength.
*
After returning from their hometown, Meng Chu seemed to have suddenly unloaded the burden in her heart.
Before, she always felt she was hiding things from Xu Qingying, with a sneaky feeling.
Afterward, Meng Haichuan called her twice more, still really wanting her to go look at the house.
Meng Chu refused both times.
On one hand, she truly didn’t want Meng Haichuan’s things; on the other hand, the company had been too busy recently.
The company was preparing to release the latest promotional video for the quadruped robot Tian Gou A2.
This was Xingyuan Technology’s key new product for the second half of the year, and also a product they planned to highlight at the Global AI Conference in Shenzhen next month.
Meng Chu had long been swamped because of this product promotion.
It was just that they had started making the promotional video long ago.
Because it involved showing the robot dog’s movement ability across multiple terrains, Meng Chu had earlier arranged for people to find mountains, sand, and forests around Shanghai.
Now shooting had begun several months in advance.
Meng Chu was currently sitting in the meeting room, looking down at the promotion plan in her hand.
As a startup company, Xingyuan had almost no public recognition, only a little fame within the industry.
Because at present their products were basically in the To B market, meaning they faced enterprise users.
Like Linjiang Group and Hualin Group, which was currently in cooperation talks, these kinds of clients.
Truly facing consumer users, like ordinary home appliance products directly sold to consumers, was indeed still very little.
Xingyuan’s next goal was to expand the entertainment and practicality of its products and enlarge the direct consumer market.
“Do you think this promotion plan is any different from the last one?”
Meng Chu frowned and looked at the partner company opposite her.
Kairui Media was the agency Meng Chu was currently working with. Two months ago, Gu Ting suddenly replaced their previous partner company on the grounds of poor promotion.
Now this company, Kairui, was responsible for Xingyuan Technology’s brand promotion plan.
The sports event opening ceremony Xingyuan had attended in Nanjing earlier had been planned by them.
But Meng Chu hadn’t been satisfied even then.
During that period, Meng Chu brought company staff and personally revised quite a lot.
“General Manager Meng, Xingyuan is a high-tech intelligent company. Our brand isn’t meant for mass promotion. We definitely can’t achieve the same promotional force as ordinary phones or cars.”
Project supervisor Yang Hui explained.
Meng Chu didn’t waste words. She directly had Jiang Xinya display a proposal on the meeting room projector.
“So where is the difference between these two proposals?”
Meng Chu calmly looked at Yang Hui opposite her.
Everyone looked down at the marketing plan in their hands, then up at the one on the projector.
Although many places had been modified, they could tell it was the same old thing with a new name.
The promotion plan on the projector was made by Xingyuan’s previous partner company.
When Meng Chu first saw Kairui’s proposal, she was simply shocked.
She hadn’t expected the other party to be so bold as to dare modify the previous proposal.
Wasn’t this plagiarism!
“Does your company think Xingyuan is too small and not worth your sincere service?” Meng Chu stared directly at the other side.
This made Yang Hui’s face flush completely red.
“Also, our newly promoted quadruped robot A2 has innovations in core technology. Even if you are outsiders, you shouldn’t get the most basic data wrong,” Meng Chu placed the proposal in her hand on the meeting table.
She didn’t slam it down, but the sound of the project proposal heavily hitting the meeting table.
Also struck everyone’s heart in the meeting room.
Kairui Media had worked with Xingyuan for quite a while. This wasn’t the first time they had a meeting with Meng Chu.
The people in charge of this project knew that although Meng Chu was serious and strict at work, her temper was very gentle.
After all, people who were both good-looking and outstanding usually had some pride.
But Meng Chu didn’t have that overbearing arrogance.
She didn’t have arrogance, but that didn’t mean she had no temper.
Yang Hui immediately defended herself.
