The two of them’s takeout had apparently been delivered by the same rider.
The delivery notifications arrived one after the other.
“Can you help me go down and get it together? After we finish eating I’ll clean up and take out the trash.”
Bai Yurou actively requested of Ning Mu.
The trash, just like the takeout, had to be taken to the trash bins outside the dorm building to be thrown away.
Their building didn’t have any.
“Alright.” Ning Mu was a little puzzled, simply assuming Young Miss Bai was too lazy to move right now, and agreed.
After watching Ning Mu go out, Bai Yurou took the medicine box out of her pants pocket.
This was the reason she had asked Ning Mu to help her get the takeout.
She didn’t want Ning Mu to find out she was taking medicine.
Although she felt that hiding it from her roommates for all four years of university probably wouldn’t work, she still didn’t want others to know she had congenital heart disease.
She would hide it for as long as she could. That was the mindset Bai Yurou used to keep it hidden.
Especially from Ning Mu, the person she cared about most besides her current family.
Bai Yurou walked over to the case of mineral water in the corner of the living room. It had already been opened.
It seemed Ning Mu or Ye Hui had taken a bottle. Bai Yurou took out another bottle of mineral water from inside and tried to twist it open.
Her body was truly too frail.
She put in a great deal of effort and tried several times before she finally managed to twist the bottle cap open.
A thin layer of fine sweat had already appeared on her forehead.
Using the mineral water, she swallowed the medicine.
Not long after taking the medicine, Ning Mu returned.
She hadn’t closed the door when she left earlier, so Bai Yurou clearly heard the sound of the elevator arriving and Ning Mu’s footsteps from the living room.
“Takeout.” Ning Mu entered the door, stood at the entrance, and held out two bags containing the meal boxes.
Bai Yurou stepped forward to take them, placed them on the dining table, and sat down.
Before long, Ning Mu also finished changing into disposable slippers at the doorway and walked over to sit at the dining table.
Bai Yurou found her own takeout bag, took it out, and opened it. Ning Mu also unwrapped her portion beside her.
“You’re only eating this?”
Ning Mu saw Bai Yurou’s congee and tomato scrambled eggs and looked a little surprised.
“Mm. No need to eat too much at night. It’s easy to get insomnia.” Bai Yurou nodded.
“Want to try some of mine?” Ning Mu opened her own meal box. Inside was barbecue.
Bai Yurou glanced at it and lightly shook her head—greasy things were something her heart couldn’t bear the burden of.
“No need. I can’t eat anything too spicy.”
Bai Yurou found a reason and politely refused.
Last time when they ate hot pot together, Bai Yurou had also used this reason to eat from the clear broth pot, so Ning Mu didn’t suspect anything.
“Alright then.”
This dinner the two of them sat on either side of the dining table, one eating plain congee and the other eating barbecue, chatting from time to time as well.
Before long, they finished eating.
“I’ll clean up. We’ll throw it out together later.”
“Okay.”
This was what Bai Yurou had already agreed on when she asked her to get the takeout earlier, so Ning Mu didn’t say anything more.
She simply returned to the sofa and sat down, letting her clean up the trash.
Ning Mu continued using the remote to play the anime.
Bai Yurou, on the other hand, packed the trash into the two meal bags, changed her shoes, pushed open the door, took the elevator downstairs, and walked to the trash bins beside the building to throw them away.
When she returned to the dorm, Ning Mu was no longer watching anime.
One episode had just ended. She was curled up on the sofa scrolling short videos, looking bored out of her mind.
Bai Yurou looked at her like that and somehow opened her mouth. “Let’s watch a movie.”
Ning Mu raised her head, glanced at her, didn’t think much of it, and casually turned off the short videos.
“Alright. What do you want to watch?”
Bai Yurou also sat on the sofa, picked up the TV remote, and said while searching, “An anime movie.”
“Sure.”
Ning Mu didn’t object. After all, just a few hours ago she had still been asking Bai Yurou to recommend anime movies to her.
Ning Mu stood up, lowered the brightness of the living room lights, and pulled the curtains closed to create a bit of atmosphere.
Then she returned to the sofa and sat down next to Bai Yurou.
On the other side, Bai Yurou had already found the movie she wanted to watch.
Unfortunately the TV required a membership, so she had to use her own phone to cast the screen.
She first turned off all message notifications to confirm she wouldn’t be disturbed, then cast her phone screen onto the TV.
The one she chose was her favorite from Makoto Shinkai’s disaster trilogy—Weathering With You.
She felt that recommending Makoto Shinkai to an anime beginner like Ning Mu was a pretty good decision.
Besides, she really liked this one and wanted to recommend it out first.
They had only been watching for a short while when Ye Hui pushed the door open and returned.
“What are you two doing?”
Ye Hui glanced at the two curled up on the sofa and the deliberately dimmed lights. Her tone was as flat as usual, though it carried a trace of puzzlement.
“Watching a movie. Want to join?” Ning Mu turned her head to look at her and casually issued an invitation.
Bai Yurou didn’t speak and didn’t turn her head either. She simply silently stared at the TV screen, as if silently allowing Ning Mu’s invitation.
But that wasn’t what she was thinking in her heart at all.
She only wanted to watch a movie with Ning Mu, just the two of them.
Just like this, shoulder to shoulder curled up on the sofa, close enough to feel each other’s body heat.
If Ye Hui came too, wouldn’t that sense of closeness that belonged only to her vanish completely?
From the bottom of her heart, she didn’t want anyone to insert themselves in.
She didn’t understand where this dependence came from.
It even mixed in a trace of possessiveness she couldn’t clearly explain. Was it because she had inherited Lin Ye’s feelings for Ning Mu?
It should just be simple guilt, right?
Bai Yurou found an answer that could convince herself.
Fortunately Ye Hui herself didn’t seem to have much interest in the movie.
She only said lightly, “You two watch. I’m going back to my room.”
After speaking she turned and left the living room. Once again only Ning Mu and Bai Yurou remained in the living room.
Bai Yurou remained expressionless on the surface, but secretly let out a breath of relief in her heart.
Ning Mu turned her head back and continued watching the movie as if nothing had happened.
Bai Yurou’s hand unconsciously grabbed Ning Mu’s. Ning Mu felt it and didn’t say anything more.
She simply treated it as the natural closeness of good friends watching a movie together and let her hold on.
Bai Yurou felt a wave of happiness. The little finger of her other hand lifted in a place Ning Mu couldn’t see.
In the blink of an eye nearly two hours passed. The production staff list of the end credits appeared on the TV. During this entire time Bai Yurou had never let go.
Ning Mu also seemed to have been stunned by this animation.
Only after the end credits had scrolled for nearly half a minute did she slowly come back to her senses and turn her head to look at Bai Yurou.
Bai Yurou was also looking at her.
—Or rather, during these two hours, Bai Yurou’s gaze had mostly fallen on Ning Mu.
She had long since watched this movie and had even rewatched it several times.
The reason she had proposed watching a movie with Ning Mu today was simply because she wanted to spend a little more time with her.
So during the movie screening, she had been secretly observing Ning Mu’s reactions the whole time.
Watching the changes in her emotions from the ups and downs of the plot, her joy, her sadness…
“How was it? Was it good?”
Bai Yurou stared at Ning Mu’s face and asked.
“Mm.”
Ning Mu nodded.
Then the two of them discussed the plot of this movie and the director for more than half an hour.
During that time Bai Yurou also successfully persuaded Ning Mu to find time in a few days to accompany her in watching a movie like this again.
