Clara looked at Kamui and found that the other happened to be looking back at her.
Blue Cavalier hadn’t come, so she could only rely on herself and Kamui to think of something.
The two looked at each other at a loss, neither knowing how to arrange things next.
Clara thought it over. First, she had to convince the Bald Uncle to allow Kamui to leave the interrogation room.
“Blue Cavalier has already testified for Miss Kamui. Can she leave the interrogation room and move around?”
Clara made the request, but it was rejected.
“No. Even if she isn’t a suspect in this case, letting you two out right now would only cause more trouble. Association employees aren’t allowed to wander around freely, let alone outsiders here for investigation.”
“But—”
Clara wanted to say more, but the uncle cut her off.
“Just now, you claimed to understand technology, so I took you to the monitoring room. After wandering around for ages, you ended up being toyed with by the relic thief’s trap.”
‘That might not necessarily be a trap. Maybe there really is a network port that no one knows about. There must be something we overlooked in this building.’
Even though Nyx said that, Clara didn’t dare refute the agent’s words.
After all, it was true that they had gone on a wild goose chase.
Kamui said impatiently, “Are you planning to keep me locked up here until the case is solved? Are you kidding? I have to go to work, you know! Why do you think I came all the way here early in the morning after receiving the summons notice?”
‘It’s a shame we didn’t finish. Inviting her to join the dream witch really wouldn’t be bad for her.’
‘Uh, she means the hero commission, right? It’s not easy for independent heroes to get commissions. If this causes the commission to fall through, Miss Kamui also has to go to work during the day.’
“Whether as a citizen or as a hero, you have the obligation to cooperate with the Administration Bureau’s investigation. Please mind your attitude.”
The uncle still spoke in a high-and-mighty official tone.
Kamui kicked aside the table board at her feet and said no more.
The uncle continued, “What can you even do if you go out? The things that can be done, the Administration Bureau is already doing. The places that can be searched, almost all of them have been searched.”
That was true.
If they wanted to investigate outside, they had to find a place that the Administration Bureau had overlooked. Otherwise, going out would just be like headless flies.
Clara stroked her smooth chin in thought and then asked, “Sir, you just said ‘almost’ all have been searched, right? Then may I ask which place hasn’t been searched?”
“Classified areas. Without documents from above, it’s inconvenient to search. For example, the archives room for registered heroes, the association’s top-level offices, and the server room of the ‘hero network,’ etc.”
Could it be that the thief couldn’t possibly go to such places?
The server room, which was where that big iron ball was located.
Clara asked, “Isn’t it possible that the thief sneaked into the server room?”
“Impossible. As far as I know, that server room was designed without any consideration for human movement. In other words, there aren’t even roads there.”
“Huh? Why?”
“Because the server room is entirely managed by the hero network itself. It’s a system that truly maintains and learns by itself.”
Clara was startled by this sudden thought, but upon careful consideration, she felt it wasn’t entirely impossible.
‘Could the thief be the hero network itself?’
If that were really the work of the hero network, then the staff in the control center upstairs couldn’t possibly not know, since their job was to keep an eye on every move that thing made.
‘It’s not impossible. Nyx suggests checking the server room.’
Didn’t you just say there was no road for people?
‘There are maintenance tunnels. You can use a drone… no, it should be a familiar.’
“Ah?”
‘The Moon Rabbit Combat Unit.’
‘When you have eliminated all possibilities, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.’
Clara’s small hand gestured in the air, gathering the magic power within her, and finally conjured a big white rabbit out of thin air.
“So, the thief and the relic are very likely still inside that server room!”
In Central City, one should not assume the thief is human.
Even if it were human, there were mutants with various abilities that could shrink or enlarge. If a thief capable of turning into a grain of rice slipped into the storage room to steal, would anyone really notice him?
Clara held up the Moon Rabbit Combat Unit for Kamui and the Bald Uncle to see.
Both of their expressions were very strange.
Whether magic girls or magicians, they were no strangers to the concept of familiars. Rather, it was weirder for a magic girl like Kamui not to have a familiar as an assistant.
After all, if a familiar followed her, it would definitely starve.
Chirp~
The familiar waved its hand.
“This is my familiar.”
She introduced it.
The Bald Uncle pushed up his slipping glasses and said, “I’ve never seen a familiar like this. It can’t even speak.”
“You’ve seen one now.”
The Moon Rabbit Combat Unit was clean and fluffy, very endearing.
Kamui reached out and rubbed the Moon Rabbit Combat Unit’s soft belly, but Clara started wiggling her waist in response.
“Mm… hey?”
She quickly realized something, raised an eyebrow, and asked, “Is this a familiar?”
“…It’s a familiar.”
Kamui scratched the rabbit’s belly again, and Clara kept wiggling.
“Really a familiar?”
“Really a familiar!”
The Bald Uncle watched their strange interaction and said, “We have drones, but if you insist on sending a familiar in, it’s not out of the question.
“Even if it’s a classified area, it’s still a server room.
“Even if Clara wanted to steal secrets, she’d at least have to send a robot in. What secrets could a rabbit familiar steal from a server?
“The only trouble the Moon Rabbit Combat Unit might cause is whether its fur generates static electricity from dryness, or if it chews on wires or defecates randomly in the server room.”
Of course, Clara could guarantee that the latter things would never happen.
“Attach a camera to it.”
The summoned technician with the afro tied a camera around the Moon Rabbit Combat Unit’s neck.
Once it entered the server room, they could directly see the inside from here.
“Done.”
The afro technician clapped his hands.
Clara also placed the Moon Rabbit Combat Unit on the ground.
Then, for the first time in a while, she stood up using the rabbit’s body, stretched, and yawned. Because of this adorable appearance, she got petted by Kamui again.
“Oh…”
As soon as the rabbit spoke, it realized something was wrong and quickly switched back to Clara’s original voice.
“Um… where is the server room?”
“Underground.”
The Bald Uncle’s answer was as non-specific as ever, refusing to reveal any unnecessary information.
Kamui asked, “Isn’t the underground of the association the training ground?”
“That’s just the basement.”
The uncle picked up the rabbit familiar by the scruff of its neck and walked into the elevator.
“You two stay here. I’ll send it to the maintenance tunnel.”
