Ecological Breeding Corridor.
The corridor was spacious and bright. Besides Huang Tao, their guide, there were also many young boys and girls planning to sign contracts, along with their families. Each group was accompanied by a dedicated staff member. After all, contracting one’s first companion beast was no small matter—it was a lifelong event tied to the college entrance exam. Ordinary families usually brought the whole family along.
Both sides of the corridor were lined with floor-to-ceiling ecological tempered glass panels. Inside the glass were independent, temperature-controlled ecological compartments. Light filtered through special lenses, soft and warm without being harsh.
Grasslands, forests, underwater environments, wetlands, rocky terrain, and even lava landscapes—all kinds of simulated ecological environments were available.
As Luo Ning walked, he curiously looked around, like a country bumpkin visiting a grand garden, treating it as a tour of a unique zoo.
“The fire-bloodline lava compartments maintain constant high temperature and dryness. Inside live fire-type cubs that favor lava terrain, such as Carbon Turtles, Blazing Dogs, and Flame Lizards…”
“The water-type cub area simulates stream and wetland environments. Current companion beasts include Water Spirit Snakes, Mud Leaping Fish, Bubble Frogs, Small Red Carp, and so on…”
“The grassland and forest areas maintain suitable sunlight, temperature, and corresponding vegetation coverage. They house more cubs, mainly flying-type, grass-type, and insect-type companion beasts: Flying Feathered Sparrows, Cotton Grasses, Sprouting Deers, Sting Poison Bugs, Brocade Silk Silkworms, and others…”
“The rock-type area is equipped with specialized mountain stone terrain. It mainly houses rock-type cubs like Small Rock Monkeys, Helmet Bugs, and Salt Salt Rocks…”
“Each ecological room precisely replicates their original habitat to ensure the cubs’ condition and bloodline activity.”
As a guide, Huang Tao led the way while gently and meticulously introducing the two to the facilities. However, every time her gaze fell on Luo Ning, she couldn’t help but internally complain: this incredibly cute loli was actually a 180-centimeter-tall boy transformed.
What a rare sight indeed…
She never imagined there could be such a beast-taming talent…
Still, Huang Tao deeply respected Luo Ning’s identity as a hero’s offspring. Unconsciously, her attitude toward Luo Ning and Su Wanwan had shifted from initial polite reception to genuine respect and preferential treatment. She deliberately slowed her pace to match Luo Ning’s smaller stride, and her speaking tone grew softer.
Pedestrians flowed endlessly through the corridor, filled with soft exclamations from boys and girls, as well as parents’ low murmurs and discussions.
“As for Commander Bloodline companion beasts…”
Luo Ning stopped making funny faces at an adorable little red carp that had eaten itself into a gas canister shape in front of the underwater ecological room’s glass.
Finally, the main point!
Su Wanwan put away her phone, which she had been using to take cute photos. Besides capturing the adorable cubs, she had secretly taken many cute pictures of Luo Ning looking around earlier.
Why was photography allowed? The companion beasts at the breeding center weren’t classified—they were relatively common types, mostly Awakening Level bloodlines with a few Transcendent Level ones. Visitors were still allowed to take photos.
“Currently, our breeding center has only three Commander Bloodline companion beasts.”
“They are the Fire/Rock-type Magma Boy, the Grass/Insect-type Leaf Slug, and the Water/Electric-type Electric Eel.”
“All three are rare dual-attribute Commander Bloodline cubs. Normal growth is enough to reach Low Tier Commander Level. Of course, if they successfully evolve, their racial bloodline can further advance.”
“They were brought in by our breeding center’s new director, aiming to support talented new beast tamers from his hometown for a fresh start, reserved as top-tier contract slots for this year’s newcomers.”
“However, the Fire/Rock-type Magma Boy was already taken privately by the director. Now only the Leaf Slug and Electric Eel remain for you to choose from for your contracts.”
“!” Luo Ning.
This is it! The classic starting three selection segment!
But then Luo Ning thought it over and silently pouted.
Judging by the names… neither of these seemed to suit his beast-taming talent.
As someone who cared about appearances, Luo Ning really couldn’t imagine what a demihuman girl turned from a slug or an electric eel would look like.
Might as well go outside and contract a “stray dog”—a Blazing Dog, Sprouting Deer, or even that cute little red carp like a gas canister!
At least he might end up with a dog-eared girl, deer-eared girl, or mermaid girl!
Huang Tao smiled softly and said gently, “Follow me, you two. Commander Bloodline cubs aren’t open for public viewing. They’re housed in independent climate-controlled breeding rooms—environment, air pressure, and energy concentration are all individually regulated, completely different from the ordinary ecological compartments outside.”
With that, she led them through the crowd to a plain alloy door at the end of the corridor. After fingerprint and iris double verification, the alloy door slid silently open to both sides.
Beyond the door was a quiet passage, with soft, warm white light spreading evenly across the floor, spotlessly clean. At the end of the short, ten-meter passage were three connected, fully independent top-tier ecological breeding rooms.
“This is our breeding center’s highest-spec breeding area,” Huang Tao lowered her voice, her tone carrying a note of seriousness. “Among all newcomer breeding bases in Jiangcheng, only we can offer dual-attribute Commander Bloodline cubs as initial contract beasts. They all originate from native groups in high-risk secret realms, with pure bloodlines and potential far exceeding artificially bred Transcendent Bloodline companion beasts.”
The three independent breeding rooms—the left and right ones were brightly lit with fully recreated ecological environments. Only the central one, originally housing the Magma Boy, was dim now. Its lava landscape equipment had been shut down, and the empty compartment held no sign of life, confirming Huang Tao’s earlier words: the Magma Boy had already been taken.
“The middle lava breeding room was the Magma Boy’s former home,” Huang Tao gestured at the empty compartment. “After the new boss took it, this room is temporarily sealed and unused. Now only the cubs in the left and right rooms are available for selection.”
With that, she walked toward the dim, humid breeding room on the left.
Inside the glass compartment was a perfectly recreated dark, humid forest secret realm. Moist mist gently rolled, thick ferns covered the ground, and soft humus soil exuded a faint aura of life—peaceful and healing.
At the center of a patch of lush green leaves lay an exceptionally soft little creature.
Its body was a translucent, vibrant jade green, soft and squishy, like a jelly. Two pairs of slender, pale green tentacles gently swayed. Wherever it crawled over leaves and branches, tiny green sprouts instantly emerged, with a gentle life essence swirling around its body—so tender it was unreal.
“This is the Grass/Insect dual-attribute Low Tier Commander Bloodline companion beast, the Leaf Slug.”
Huang Tao introduced it softly: “It originates from the Shadow Underground C-Level Secret Realm. It naturally controls life nurturing and exotic toxins, making it an extremely rare all-purpose support companion.”
Su Wanwan hugged her bear doll, gazing at the Leaf Slug through the glass. The Leaf Slug inside seemed to sense something, twisting its plump body to glance in Su Wanwan’s direction—right at her ample chest.
Su Wanwan instinctively flashed a beautiful smile. “Luo Ning, you know, I’ve decided on her. This little guy is pretty chubby and cute too.”
He pictured in his mind ten thousand ways the Leaf Slug could turn into a girl, but no matter how he imagined it, he couldn’t picture a cute beast-eared girl image. It completely didn’t appeal to his aesthetic.
Luo Ning silently looked away, a look of regret on his face.
“Alright, fine.”
As long as Su Wanwan liked it, there was no problem. After all, this plump, soft Leaf Slug really suited her “Nanny” beast-taming talent—a support combination was perfect.
