This was Ye Xingyao’s first time entering the Human Alliance headquarters in Satellite City. Usually, she didn’t cause trouble and was a law-abiding good hunter…
Cough, cough… I’ve actually done plenty of things that aren’t so law-abiding. For example, the magic stones my main attack method relies on are the very first forbidden items listed in the Human Alliance’s laws.
The Elven language and magic I’ve been studying? Those are also textbook gray-area stuff.
When Hongye Qiu brought her in through the VIP passage, combining all that experience with her current identity as a Star Elf, she couldn’t help feeling a little intimidated.
She had no choice but to stick close to Sister Hongye, seeking a bit of security—after all, in moments like this, her overwhelmingly powerful combat ability was the most reliable thing.
“Do you have to be this scared? No one’s going to eat you. I told you, it’s a friendly discussion.”
Hongye Qiu rolled her eyes, teasing the girl beside her for being so neurotic.
Still, seeing Little Sister Ye Xin taking the initiative to seek protection like this was rare, and she couldn’t help but feel a certain pleasure rising within her.
“Ooh, the Human Alliance’s facilities look so high-class.”
Ye Xingyao’s eyes sparkled as she observed the surroundings. The VIP passage of the Human Alliance was one of the places with the highest security here, and the dazzling array of decorations and facilities all showcased the Human Alliance’s deep pockets.
For a hunter who had always worked alone and spent all her bounties on equipment and magic stones, this was quite the temptation.
“Heh, if Miss Star Elf is interested, feel free to come anytime. I can even authorize the use of some facilities.”
A man’s voice came from the end of the VIP passage not far away. Ye Xingyao focused her eyes—wasn’t that the uncle from TV? Something like the general director, named Li Xiang, she thought.
So this was what it was like to meet such an important person in real life.
Wait, no—the combination of that old gentleman and Jiang Yuan earlier had a much deeper background.
Speaking of Jiang Yuan… She saw him too. Standing behind Li Xiang, leaning against the wall, playing on his phone.
What was he doing here?
“Come in. Today, the VIP passage is open only to the two of you.”
Li Xiang smiled politely and, as the host, invited the two to enter the most core area of the Human Alliance Satellite City headquarters.
From where he couldn’t see, Jiang Yuan quietly waved at her, then composed his expression and followed Li Xiang with a serious face.
After passing through a short section of the research institute’s experimental area, they arrived at a place that looked like an office. Further inside was a high-end-looking meeting room.
The Human Alliance side seemed to focus more on practicality. Aside from some necessary decorations, there was none of that so-called wealthy atmosphere—which made Ye Xingyao feel a bit more at ease. If the meeting place were the kind of absurdly extravagant one where a single vase cost a fortune, she might feel out of her depth.
“Please, sit anywhere you like.”
At the host’s invitation, Ye Xingyao and Hongye Qiu sat side by side on one side of the long table, while Li Xiang and Jiang Yuan sat on the other.
“Nice to meet you, Miss Star Elf. I am Li Xiang, the general director of the Human Alliance in Satellite City.”
Although they had all seen images of each other to some extent, the necessary pleasantries couldn’t be skipped—at least for people from Zhongzhou.
“Mm, hello. My name is Ye Xingyao.”
In contrast, Ye Xingyao’s self-introduction was much shorter. In her view, since they came to negotiate with her, they must have done their background checks. In this age of complete informatization, hiding from the Human Alliance’s eyes was still quite difficult.
Not to mention that she hadn’t really tried that hard to evade detection.
“Nice to meet you, Miss Ye Xingyao. I am from the Council of Elders. I’m here only to represent the council and be aware of the meeting’s content. Please don’t mind me.” Jiang Yuan nodded at her.
Nice to meet you? Doesn’t he want Li Xiang to know that I’ve already met Mr. Xing?
Although she wasn’t fully prepared, the clever and sensitive Ye Xingyao caught his intention and nodded back.
“Then… let’s get straight to the point.”
Li Xiang wasn’t one for excessive pleasantries either. After the attendants brought drinks, the meeting quickly got down to business.
The terms offered by the Human Alliance were undeniably tempting.
They wouldn’t interfere with her decisions as a Star Elf, and they would allow the elves of the Star Elf faction to stay in Satellite City. The condition was that they needed to serve as high-end combat power to help the Human Alliance stabilize situations when necessary—such as during monster invasions or incidents like this terrorist attack.
This treatment was equivalent to that of the Magical Girl Society. Of course, unlike the Magical Girl Society, the elf form still couldn’t appear in public casually.
Ye Xingyao naturally agreed to this—it served both sides’ interests. Besides, their fledgling little team needed plenty of opportunities to train.
At the same time, Ye Xingyao stated that she might go to the outskirts soon to learn about the attitudes of some elves. She didn’t make these words too absolute; basically, she used facts to create some wiggle room for herself.
She didn’t want to be too passive. At the very least, she had to think about her small team, and the magical girls…
Huh? Magical girls? Shouldn’t Miss Qiluo come and take a look?
As if sensing Ye Xingyao’s confusion, Hongye Qiu smiled slightly.
“The Magical Girl side also agrees to this decision.”
Good grief, Sister Hongye, how many places are you working for? Human Alliance, Hunter’s Union, and now helping the magical girls negotiate? Talk about overachieving.
Though Ye Xingyao had a vague idea of who Hongye Qiu—who usually disliked power and was too lazy to meddle—was being so attentive to now.
The Human Alliance didn’t seem intent on putting many restrictions on them. They even offered to provide some support, their attitude so ingratiating it was suspicious.
It wasn’t until they mentioned the Extraordinary Academy, after Hongye Qiu reminded her, that she realized just how big a favor her title as Star Elf had done for the Human Alliance.
Li Xiang’s explanation was that this would both stabilize the restless elves and strengthen the human side’s reserve forces, turning enemies into allies. It would also improve some elves’ views of the Human Alliance, possibly even boosting her own accomplishments and reputation as the “Star Elf.”
All of this, of course, required doing the job well, beautifully, and without a single leak.
After a moment of silence, Ye Xingyao agreed, but she made a request: That “Ye Xin” being the “Star Elf” must not be exposed, and she wanted to attend school together with her companions.
These requests were obviously reasonable, and Li Xiang agreed immediately.
