“What is this?”
Zhu Yuan still had her hair loose, but the black bow that served as a hair ornament held back the stray strands on the sides, giving her a well-behaved, ladylike appearance.
Before leaving, Gou Yu had wet his hands and casually ran them through his hair, which had now dried in the wind, giving it a slightly fluffy look.
“No idea.” Gou Yu shook his head and picked up the small black box.
They exchanged glances, then Zhu Yuan lifted her chin, and Gou Yu reached out to open the lid of the small black box.
Inside lay something quietly.
A piece of paper that looked like it had just been torn from a notebook, with only a single line of text written on it.
“With this ticket, you may pick any vehicle of your choice.”
Zhu Yuan read it out loud, then tilted her head. “What is this?”
Gou Yu immediately recognized who had sent it. “Look, there’s a stamp right here.”
Zhu Yuan felt a flicker of recognition.
“Isn’t this from yesterday…”
“It’s from that car-selling kid yesterday.” Gou Yu confirmed her guess.
“I see.” Zhu Yuan carefully picked up the paper and examined it. “So he values you that much? Any car you want? Turns out you have such close friends…”
Gou Yu could tell—his Little Bird was jealous.
Sometimes, without even realizing it, Zhu Yuan would let that emotion slip out without any concealment.
Under normal circumstances, a sensible man would immediately offer reassurance.
But Gou Yu liked to be a little cheeky.
“Are you jealous?” He leaned closer to Zhu Yuan.
“Bullshit, who would be jealous of you? Especially over a guy.” Zhu Yuan directly denied it and threw in a curse about Gou Yu’s mother.
Unfortunately, Gou Yu’s mother wasn’t around, so that webpage returned a 404.
“That car-selling kid didn’t have good intentions either.” Gou Yu said as he gently squeezed Zhu Yuan’s hand. “Think about it—between the two of us, who has a driver’s license? Who can drive?”
“That’s actually a good point.” Zhu Yuan seemed to catch on.
“That guy left this note here, even if one of us actually got a license, it’d be a joke. By then, we’d probably be getting married, and he’d just give it as a wedding gift.”
“Wow, that’s really shady.” Zhu Yuan sighed.
“Wow, that’s really shady.” Zhu Yuan sighed again.
“Yeah, yeah, rich kids play dirty like that.” Gou Yu nodded in agreement.
Then, as if suddenly realizing something, Zhu Yuan punched Gou Yu in the side. “Who said I’m marrying you?”
She looked up and saw the store manager lady staring intently at them.
She obviously remembered that she was still supposed to be messing around with Gou Yu.
“Who wants to marry you?” Zhu Yuan began answering her own question. “It’s me.”
Gou Yu couldn’t hold back his laughter, and even the store manager lady nearly cracked a smile.
After saying that, Zhu Yuan felt her cheeks burn, so she grabbed Gou Yu’s hand and sat down behind the red table.
“You two just stay here and greet anyone who comes to give gifts.” The store manager lady said, stepping back a little, though her gaze remained fixed on them.
“Sis, what if we don’t know the people who come?” Gou Yu called out to the store manager lady, who had already turned and was walking away gracefully.
“Even if you don’t know them, they know you.” The store manager lady waved her hand.
Then they were left alone at the entrance.
It felt like a player happily watching a tutorial suddenly losing the newbie guide and having to face the hostility of the whole world.
Zhu Yuan and Gou Yu exchanged glances, then looked outside.
“What time is it?” Zhu Yuan asked Gou Yu.
This dress didn’t have pockets, and pulling out her phone from her small bag wasn’t very convenient.
“Eight forty.”
“Crap, people are going to start arriving.”
Zhu Yuan clearly wasn’t ready, but Gou Yu didn’t seem bothered.
“It’s fine. Even if someone comes, what can they do to me?”
No sooner had he spoken than footsteps were heard.
A seemingly friendly Mediterranean uncle stopped right in front of them.
And he didn’t say a word.
Gou Yu responded with a polite smile—perhaps the most courteous he’d ever been.
The two stared at each other in that awkward way, and even the atmosphere began to feel strange.
Zhu Yuan glanced around the wedding hall, then back at Gou Yu, who was playing a staring contest with the guest.
She quietly leaned over and whispered into Gou Yu’s ear, her voice barely audible to anyone else, with gritted teeth and a sweet tone: “Why is he just staring at you without saying anything? Do you two have a grudge?”
“No, I don’t remember who he is. I don’t know what to call him until he speaks first.” Gou Yu lowered his voice equally quietly.
“No memory at all?”
“None at all.”
So Zhu Yuan pulled back, and Gou Yu continued the staring contest with the other man.
“Welcome, welcome. Please come in.” Gou Yu finally stood up and said that.
“Don’t you remember your uncle? I used to prank you when you were little.”
“Pranked me?” Gou Yu sensed trouble—maybe this was some kind of relative.
“Yeah, your dad and I used to put snap pops under your pillow. You forgot?”
Gou Yu remembered. “You old bastard. Without you, my childhood would have been at least half happier.”
“With your uncle, your childhood was complete.” The Mediterranean middle-aged man looked around. “My brat of a son left early this morning. No idea where he is now.”
“The car-selling kid is inside.” Gou Yu pointed toward the banquet hall.
“Car-selling father? Does that little brat have no manners at all?” The car-selling father reached into the pocket of his suit jacket.
Gou Yu glanced at him and shouted in exaggerated panic, “Take cover! This old bastard is about to make a move!”
“Huh?”
Zhu Yuan, who had just figured out the relationship, was taken aback when a small gift box appeared before her.
The lid was slightly open, revealing a glimmering white-strapped ladies’ watch inside.
The middle-aged man with the Mediterranean hairstyle smiled kindly and gently pushed it toward Zhu Yuan.
“I heard from my brat about you two. I’m practically his second dad. I’m relieved to hand him over to you. Please take care of him from now on.”
After saying that, while Zhu Yuan was still in a daze, he turned to Gou Yu, who was about to take cover.
Then he tossed out two cherries with snap pops attached.
“Holy crap, cherry bombs!” Gou Yu quickly caught them to keep them from hitting the table and exploding.
Zhu Yuan let out a sigh of relief. “Now we should finally get a break.”
“Oh? Is that so?”
A familiar flash of golden hair appeared at the door, accompanied by a light blue dress.
Uh oh.
