Xue La finally realized how terrible she was in the original timeline.
A worldly woman who raised a demonic little girl.
Then she became the lackey of a seemingly sweet but actually dark-hearted princess, infiltrating the team as a spy maid.
‘It’s over. It’s all over now.’
‘The world line… is it actually converging?’
‘Did my efforts just turn into ashes?’
‘What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?’
Xue La was as panicked as a headless fly, hiding in her boudoir, lost in wild thoughts.
The only thing she could do for that fool Luo Yi at the very end was so little.
But the reward was great.
Kargon returned.
The two spoke secretly in the manor’s backyard—the Lady and the Count had gone to Baldwood Town to discuss the plaza reconstruction, so they wouldn’t be back anytime soon.
This old knight, a retired Captain of the Royal Capital Guard, let out a long sigh and revealed everything about Luo Yi.
At the mention of Bali Saihe’s name, Luo Yi was still shaken in his cell.
But he still hugged his grandfather, Rodrik, his last remaining family member in the world.
“I know Bali Saihe is a great hero… but I only want my grandfather.”
“Grandfather, I’m about to go see the Sun God Helong soon.”
Rodrik’s hand drooped down, followed by a fit of coughing.
“Helong protects every warrior who fights bravely on the battlefield.”
“Your skills are excellent—so they cannot be lost here. You saved the young lady of House Linde, but it led to misunderstanding.”
“Such things are common. Back then, Bali Saihe was also wrongly accused… cough, cough!”
Rodrik’s breath grew increasingly short.
He glanced at his old friend Kargon, then advised Luo Yi.
“But I don’t want you to give up on your original intention of wielding a weapon and degenerate into a vengeful walking corpse.”
His withered palm caressed Luo Yi’s scarred cheek.
“You grasped the sword’s hilt with courage and freedom—and so you will in the future. The power represented by the blade must fight for these beautiful things…”
Kargon finished.
Xue La pressed on:
“And then?”
Kargon shook his head.
Yes, everything had come to an end.
“Luo Yi left, but he returned this to you.”
Kargon said, checking that no one was around and handed the item to Xue La.
The boy’s handwritten letter.
“Luo Yi knows characters? And he can write?”
Xue La pouted, but quickly remembered that Rodrik’s former position wasn’t low… he was a soldier under Bali Saihe.
He raised a fine descendant.
What a shame.
Although the handwriting was crooked, written on cheap draft paper with a charcoal stick, there was no resentment in it.
It was less of a farewell letter and more of a love letter.
Attached to the letter was also a pile of coins—gold, silver, and copper.
They scattered on the floor with a clatter.
“By the time you read this letter, I’ve already set off with the Baldwood Town Adventurer’s Guild to make a living elsewhere—to find that senior named Bali Saihe. A hero shrouded in rumors and legends is someone I ought to follow.”
“I don’t need your money, Sister Xue La.”
“What I want is you yourself.”
“I hate your mother, really—but I can’t hate you.”
“Because I like you too.”
“People say that the successful Brave of every generation has the right to marry any noble woman.”
“So, I have to say something very cliché—in the past, my dream of becoming a Brave, defeating the Demon King, and saving the world was probably just idle nonsense.”
“But now it’s different.”
“I will come back and marry you.”
“Yours, Luo Yi, who doesn’t know if he can still love you.”
Xue La carefully folded the letter paper, treating it like the world’s most precious silk, and carefully tucked it into her pocket.
She would treasure this forever.
Therefore, there was a piece of news that was not quite good news: Luo Yi still loved her.
Xue La could see it on her panel too.
The affection level hadn’t decreased much; instead, the bond had increased a bit…
[Love and Hate Intertwined: When teamed with Xue La, easier to inflict weapon critical damage.]
Strange creed.
The young lady of House Linde paced in the manor, thinking about future plans.
How should she proceed next?
The world line had converged—Luo Yi still had to meet his future life mentor and the female lead from the original game.
So…
If she honestly stayed in the convent and refused to listen to her mother and go to the royal capital to be some kind of maid, then the family annihilation tragedy from the original story wouldn’t happen in theory, right?
First, Luo Yi at least doesn’t hate her.
Second, she now needs to learn to be a good noble parasite, and put things off as long as possible.
Therefore, is there anything else worth doing?
Because of the convergence of world lines, the lesson for Xue La was probably this: a supporting NPC doesn’t have the capital to defy fate.
It wasn’t the Lady who harmed her—it was this chaotic world (strike that) this goddamn game designer who harmed her!
In that case, she could only do some insignificant little tasks.
So—what should she do next?
Xue La carefully analyzed the pros and cons.
The religious structure of the human kingdom was actually quite similar to what was described in history books before her transmigration.
The nobles were the protectors and sponsors of the church organizations, and the church organizations were responsible for maintaining the nobles’ justification to rule.
And “maintaining the chastity of noble women” was probably part of it.
On the Patagonia Continent, the deities worshiped by humans were simply the three gods of the sun, moon, and stars—a trinity, sacred and inseparable.
Father God, War God, and Sun God Helong; Mother God, Life God, and Moon Goddess Lu’anna; Child God, Magic God, and Star God Yisita’er… Most likely a drunken mishmash by the game designer.
But that wasn’t the point!
It was the relationship between House Linde and the church.
Lady Catalina’s plan was probably to stuff Xue La into the church to avoid trouble, hide for two or three years, and then come out as a “pure noble lady.”
That would be a long and boring life.
Because House Linde wasn’t a minor noble family.
Though not a major noble family that could influence everything, they were still a local power.
Such a noble family could entirely use their wealth to stack up a bunch of church leaders willing to lick the boots of House Linde.
When the time came, being stuffed into a convent as a nun, she might even have to learn more about being a maid, to seamlessly transition into being sent to the royal capital as a maid.
So, Xue La believed the only way to break this—was to show a talent more important than being a maid.
Becoming a nun and mastering the Holy Light Divine Art of healing wounds, dispelling evil, and inspiring people!
Then, she might be able to use the church to command her parents and escape Lady Catalina’s “clutches.”
The only problem was whether she had the strength to change classes.
Xue La glanced at her job panel.
She indeed had another attribute point to invest.
But in the Divine Art column, it was locked.
[Lock Down]
‘Argh, the game designer is too evil!’
‘But since I’m here, I’ll take it as it comes.’
Xue La believed in her ability—she had escaped from a Manticore’s jaws, so what was there to fear?
